I guess. I'm not buying this whole "it's interesting because of the politics" bit either. The countries of the real world may be mentioned as one of the three factions, but other than that, the three factions have been largely interchangeable targets for the Gundam pilots, resulting in a quintet of dysfunctional kids taking on the world. I don't know what you guys are spoiler tagging the mental illnesses since its not even revealed in the anime, but its definately MPD for Allelujah. Assumption: He probably killed someone to survive drifting off in space, maybe to have more air to himself....thus the "gentle personality" was born to sort of atone for his sins or block off those memories. The other personality isn't murderous per se, but one of a cold hardened soldier, one which prioritises his missions rather than to save people. Btw can someone explain to me the impact of the Taribia and Union part? Why would the world hate CB now because of their actions? I don't get it. Tariban head of government got smart, decided to use CB by declaring independence from US. The calculation was that CB would intervene, and no matter how they intervened Tariba would benefit. As it stood, CB whacked Tariba, who promptly went back into the Union, and the Union then defended Tariba from CB. Net effect, Tariba government head has much firmer grip on power (Look, if we're not with the Union, CB'll get us), Tariba populace likes the Union much more for defending them against CB, US benefits from Tariba not leaving, and CB is left looking like the Bad Guys to the "common people" like Saji for randomly attacking a spunky country going for independence. Schizophrenics experience visual and auditory hallucinations and many times the victims of the condition are not able to differentiate between those hallucinations and reality. MPD is where the victim suffers from a fractured personality, they are often distinct and independent and sometimes have physical manifestations such as different habits or voices for each personality. Taribia's head hoped that CB would attack the Union because technically, should the Union fire on Taribia, The Union would be the aggressors. Taribia would then be under CB's protection. Thereby using CB. But CB didn't like that since it wants to view everybody as hostile, so they spanked Taribia. The attack on "Taribian only" sends the message out, which is to deter smaller nations from using CB as allies against larger nations. Clearly, Union would've had no reason to attack, was it not for Taribia's political move. Touching Union forces would've / could've sent a mixed message, which in turn could be deliberately misinterpreted by politicians. Personally, I felt it was hinted in the episode that the whole incident was staged between Taribian and Union leader. Taribian leader gets to squash anti-US sentiments in the nation; while Union benefits from CB's demonstration of force against Union members who are tempted to secede. I doubt either leader was naive enough to believe CB would really allow a Solar power plant to switch into the hands of troublemaking warmonger (in role). CB knew it was used, but the move would still fit with their mission principle so they proceeded nonetheless. A thin-ice, superficial peace is still better than chaos and large-scale war. One has to take into account CB's limited resources. No matter how advanced their weaponry, the cold fact is that if a major war broke out, CB would be pathetically and hopelessly outnumbered, and would not be of much use at all. Beams in 00 diffuse in atmosphere so their effective-ness is not as good as they would be in space. This is why Exia uses the GN Sword so much. If he wishes to use beam weapons, Setsuna needs to get Exia close or the effectiveness of his beam weapons decreases. His beam daggers take note of this. To offset his usage of beam weapons, they gave him the GN long and short blades. Like the GN sword, it is also coated with GN particles. Dynames just stand still while shooting, Kyrios destroying a dozen of planes in a single pass, and Virtue overdone it again with its BFG. I hope this doesn't turn 00 into another super gundam show. It went from Gundam Wing clone to territory untouched by any former gundam series in one episode!!!! Hopefully they can keep it up for the whole series. And they also have a plan in every battle compared to Wing which was just blast/kill everything. I think that's what makes this show more bearable than its predecessor. Veda is CB's super computer, together with Sumeragi, predicts the possible outcomes of CB's skirmishes with 99% accuracy. It seems everything about CB's existence is controlled by this computer including the selection of its pilots. Why do I feel that the scary dead bald guy's head will be in a jar in the middle of Veda. Just wanted to mention that Kamina terrorist version aka Ali is cool. But that whole battle shows how emo Setsuna can become...which kinda makes me hope he doesn't become too emo later on and do stupid things. But I really wonder how these Middle Eastern people like Setsuna can get mistaken as Japanese. I dunno why, but Tiera is growing on me. He's the most cold and logical of the group and he knew what has to be done since he joined CB. The rest seem like they have 2nd thoughts now. When I say this series is diverging from Gundam Wing and going into previously uncharted territory for a Gundam series, you must understand that I am specifically speaking from a plot and character standpoint and not from the standpoint of mecha. And you must also understand that I am not a Gundam fan or really much of an anime fan, but more of a fan of realism. What is really making this series stand out for me is the post 9/11 geopolitical style of the show, which was especially evident in this episode. The character development is also imo far better than typical Gundam series. The "teenage angst ridden victim of war" main character is an extremely cliche, done to death theme in Gundam, but for the first time ever it is being done in a convincing, gritty, realistic way. And the classic conflict between an idealist (shuns terrorism) and a realist (favors getting the job done no matter the cost) has imo never been done in such a convincing manner in Gundam until now. Maybe it's because this is set in AD and the countries involved are countries that exist today, but these themes which I thought were never really done too well in other Gundam series are being done in a gritty, realistic style in this series that makes it believable and compelling to watch. I dunno, maybe I'm getting excited over nothing. And it remains to be seen whether the typical Gundam fan in Japan or elsewhere shares my tastes. I just hope this series can keep it up. cyde01 Posted November 26, 2007 Share Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) wow i kno i'm double posting but is no one else on mw following this series!!? lol i like this series more than most but no one seems interested!! episode 8 had it's good points but also some minor disappointments for me. i wish the international terrorist organization would have had a prolonged conflict with cb, and that would become one of the main plot points of the entire series. unfortunately, the terrorist organization had it's buttocks handed to them rather easily in one episode, bringing us back to square one with no advancement in the plot. imo a terrorist network powerful enough to globally launch a simultaneous attack in so many different areas should take years of intelligence and counter-terrorist activity to bring down, rather than 1 day of attacks by mobile suits. the dialogue between marina and setsuna was amazing, that made the episode for me! marina is the princess of azadistan (iran), and setsuna is from kurdistan, which was annihilated by azadistan !! talk about drama!!! it was a really memorable first encounter for me, waay up there with the best of them. the actual mobile suit action scenes consisting of the gundams dominating and annihilating their foes is getting a bit old. they'd better get some actual competition fast. side note: i always thought that marina was the primary heroine, but she (24) is waaay too old for setsuna (16)!!! their age difference is extremely obvious when they're standing next to each other. is setsuna not gonna have a love interest? or will marina violate a minor? lol Edited November 26, 2007 by cyde01 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
