VF-1D Gerwalk

ChaosWarrior

Recommended Posts

Well, I bought a few old ARII kits a while ago, and now I decided to have a go at one of the gerwalks. There are only three colors suggested, but I'm not sure if I'm guessing right. On the picture with the painted parts it looks like metall, beige and red/orange, but more exact color specifications in any wellknown brand will be useful.

Is the cockpit and seats supposed to be black? If the cockpit is supposed to look like a modern jet then perhaps the seats should be olive.

I'm almost done putting together the kit and painting is nearly the only thing left.

see if someone with the hase VF-1D will post the colour recommendations

Maybe the intructions from the hase kit will be a good reference.

You can find the scan at:

http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models..._65755_vf1d.htm

The model section is not as complete as we all hope but I often find useful material there.

Colours (in English) can be found at the bottom left of: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...tructions-2.jpg

Then it's all paint-by-numbers via: http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...tructions-7.jpg and http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models...tructions-8.jpg (with the occasional small detail of paint mentioned in various building steps. Cockpit interior, etc..)

Nice pics neptunesurvey. Accidently there doesn't seem to be any match for that color in the conversion charts for Humbrol that I know of.

Thanks sketchley, but I've already got that information. That's why I made the remark about Gunze colors. Isn't it Gunze color numbers in the two leftmost colums?

Black box numbers are GSI Kureosi and Mr. Karaa (Colour).

White box numbers are water Hobby Colour.

I do not know if Gunze is the same or not, but the Black and White box numbers correspond to the paints by the above 3 companies/brands.

As for as I know, GSI kureosi == GSI Gunze

Is it possible that Kureosi is the romanise pronunciation of Gunze ?

Gunze Sangyo is a name I seen people uses also to refer to the same company.

As Sketchley said, the black box numbers are the reference for the lacquer based paint from Gunze.

The white box numbers are for the water based range from the same company.

Here is some charts for the Gunze water based paint:

Can't seems to find the lacquer chart. :(

GSI Kureosi is not a romanization of Gunze (or Gunze Sangyo). On their website it is GSI Creos. http://www.gsi.co.jp/

It does look like Gunze (Sangyo) is an affiliate or sub-company (along with Mr. Hobby, etc..)

Nevertheless, I agree that the colours as per the model instructions are the same as the GSI Creos/Gunze/Gunze Sangyo colours.

Good luck on the search for the lacquer chart. Now that we know where to look, it should be significantly less difficult.

Thanks!

Think what you can find, if you know where to look :)

Now that I got it confirmed that it's Gunze colors, then things gets a bit easier.

If I haven't misunderstod anything, this should be the lacquer chart:

http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff...mrcolor_map.htm

They also provide color conversion charts, and lots of other stuff.

Painting will commence asap.

The orange comes out to simply "Gloss orange+gloss yellow"----you'll rarely find a match for the "basic" colors across brands.

The tan is radome tan+white.

I found a 95% complete Gunze list here: http://www.apc.net/mechworks/colorguide.html Very useful, as it has the entire Gunze line, not just paints. (Sometimes instructions will call out for something that you have no clue what they mean--sometimes a special glue or putty, or tool, etc---this lists them all)

Thanks for the list!

I've noticed that finding matching colors isn't always that easy. After using a few conversion tables, I have painted almost all orange parts in a mix of the same colors you have suggested ie Hu69 and Hu18 in about the same proportions suggested on the Hase instructions. The same proportions was used on the white Hu22 and radome tan Hu148. So far I think it looks good. I will provide some pics a soon as I'm able to take a good shoot. The only color I didn't find a suitable match for was RLM75 grey violet for the gun. I'll have to try and mix a simular color.
