Lonely Soldier Boy
Guys: I'm based in Mexico City and the toy offer here sucks, and everytime I order online I have to pay an eye for shipment and taxes. My girlfriend is going to New York on thursday and I have a long list of items for her to buy for me. I haven't been in the Big Apple yet, so I need some info about interesting toy stores in Manhattan. Thanks in advance, people.

Check out image anime, they are at 103 West 30th Street http://store.imageanime.com/info.html I brought from them once and it seems like they have some nice item in stock. Best of luck. do not disturb
image anime is way expensive. i went in to buy some valks and they were asking $150 each plus tax, basically $160 for somehting i can get for $125-$135 shipped from HK. for whatever reason, people think that theres all these sick anime shops out here but nothing could be further from the truth. even if you do find something, its usually going to be more expensive strictly because of the high rents in NYC. i've only bought a couple of anime items in all the time i've lived here, everything else i got is from HK if not CA. theres actually a decent store out in Queens(maybe in flushing) but i can't remember the name right now? either way, i doubt your GF will want to make the trip to queens, its a mission and a half to get there and back. armentage
I like image... they have a huge selection of stuff, and I really dig the big display case full of rare toys. The guys that work there are pretty helpful (they speak english, which is a huge plus), and their prices are usually only a *little* higher than the net. Not having to wait for delivery is a big plus.

Not having to wait for delivery is a big plus. Yeah, that's my main motivation, really. I understand what you say DND, but for Macross fans based in Mexico City like me, 160 for a Valk is average if not cheap, after shipping and specially taxes. I'm not sure why, but Mexico is holding some sort of an economic war against China (a war Mexico can't win, of course), and every product manufactured in China (that makes 90% of the stuff in the world) must pay a customs tax. Of course that's for the small importer. Walmart for some reason is exempt Edited November 29, 2006 by Lonely Soldier Boy
do not disturb
nah, i feel you guys, i'll definitely give it up to image-anime for their selection, they got a lot of everything up in that piece. they got a lot of cool toys, both open and MISB(noteably matchbox destroids), a hellva a lot of dvds, zoids, gundam, etc. the thing is, i just collect macross toys and they're prices have always been on the steep side. i can't speak for you guys but i'd rather save $25 per valk and wait 4 days for this already expensive as hell hobby. another spot you might want to check out is the elizabeth street mall in chinatown. i don't have the physical street address but if you're walk along canal st. toward brooklyn, the street is on your right hand side. either way its on elizabeth st. off canal. theres a bunch of little shops downstairs that carry all sorts of stuff. not so much in the ways of macross but they got just about everything else, games, dvds, kits, gashapons, all that other good stuff. another spot to check out is Toy Tokyo: 121 2nd Ave. NYC, NY 10003. Ph: 718-777-2212 they got some cool stuff in there too. again, not so much in the ways of macross but they got a lot of other cool stuff. i'm not sure what else you're into but its definitely worth checking out. just keep in mind the store is located on the 2nd floor so you could just walk by it without realizing it. if i were you, i'd call ahead and get the cross streets to make it easier to find.
