I hope you can find your parts conveniently, as it's kinda nutty out there right now...

Luckily most the guys at the shop I go to aren't into the "jack the prices cause it's all gonna end" deal. They're more repeat customer based, so to do that wouldn't help their sales.

Ok, I know I can bring up this topic here because on a gun forum everyone's naturally more emotional than reasonable about their firearms:

As you guys know I've been 1911 shopping. Now, no matter what 1911 I've handled, be it a Sig, Kimber, RIA, Springfield or even a Colt, they don't feel.....how should I say this....as "good" as my Beretta 92FS, or other guns like that Beretta, such as the H&K's (9mm, .45, etc) Sigs, Glocks, etc. Now when I say "good," I'm talking about how tight, smooth, crisp and well-put-together the gun feels and how it works in my hands.

The 1911 seems like a good platform, and I'm sure it will go BANG when I pull the trigger, but it doesn't feel like it came off of a high-precision assembly line like the more modern designs such as my 92FS. Because of this, I haven't been able to decide on a 1911, as I can't justify the almost $1K price tag. What's your guy's take on 1911's? Do they feel different to you as opposed to more modern "tupperware" guns, or is it just me, and maybe I've developed a bias against the 1911? Lol, am I holding it wrong? As usual, your input is appreciated...

I have shot a few 1911s, the last two being Kimbers. I seem to default back to my HK when I want to shoot 45s. Probably just because I am used to the triggers on Glocks and HKs (DA/SA). I shoot like crap with my Shield. I am getting better with my FNS since it is almost Glock-like.

Whatever you decide, it's going to take you time to master it. With the rising costs of ammo, it gets tough.

I can't find any 5.56 ammo for decent prices anymore.

It just cost me $129 for a 10 pack of PMags. Not too bad considering.

My SBR is finally almost done (need to stick my light and an optic on it)

Sorry for crappy iphone pic.

What optic are you planning to put on the SBR? As for the 1911's, are you saying that you prefer to shoot a non-1911 platform when shooting .45 because of the trigger? How does a 1911 "feel" to you?

While there have been upgrades to the 1911 platform, you do still need to put in perspective, that the gun is going on 102 years of age, and the basic shape and feel hasn't changed all that much. Even for that age, IMO, it's a great feelig gun overall. It does take a little getting used to. I started off with Glock 17/19, then a Beretta 92fs as well. The feel is different, but if you get a decent 1911, I'm sure if you took it to the range a few times, you'd get quite used to it quickly.

Now that I'm in CA for the holidays I was able to break out some old friends.... its been a while. Need to find my other Gunsafe key.

Love that Enfield. Those look like a lot of fun to fire.

They are a blast to shoot. The Ishipore is quite accurate & the first rifle I ever purchased, the Lee-Enfield 303. kicks like a mule, but the action is so smooth!! B))

I know longer own my WWII M1911, but comapred to my friends Glock 17, 21 and my S&W 9mm... The Colt 1911 is about as nice a handgun I've fired.

Double? I've seen lower-end AR's like Deltons going for $1800 and higher. This is the worst panic-buy session in history, I think...

I tried to purchase a USP 45 compact, and the store was out of them, along with MANY, MANY other items. I'll have to wait till after New Years to get that, along with the lower, upper, and barrel I wanted to get for my build.

While complete factory guns are all but sold out you still should be able to get some parts. Better hurry though.

It would be funny if a new AWB doesn't happen and all these people that bought ARs at 2-3 times their worth get stuck with them. I'm so glad I am not one of these panic buyers.

I will wager that there's going to be a FLOOD of new or barely used gun stuff in the months to come. Even if an AWB does pass, which I personally doubt, it won't happen 'till much later. Get your credit cards ready men...

I agree. I'm going to slowly shop for those now harder to find pieces. My local shop, Martin B. Retting, has been great at not gouging anyone, so I'm very happy about that. It really depends on the manufacturers though. BTW, has anyone heard of that Nemo Titanium AR? It's only $100,000.00

^^^Sounds like a match for a gold plated AK; waaaay too gangsta for me...

Their site was touting it, as a double for a bullet shield, as Titanium is pretty sturdy. Maybe I'll get one after I purchase a Bell Helicopter to drive me to work and back, and get a yacht for my quick trips around the small lakes around here.

Saw it a few months ago, insane. They pretty much built it just so they could say they did.

Myk, you still shopping for a 1911? I'm no expert on 1911s, but I heard Kimber's are nice, but pricey. I have a Remington R1E and it practically shoots itself. My buddy's been shooting for 3 years on his Glock 17 and he picked up my 1911 one day and ended up with better groupings. He then shot off-hand and did even better. Me, I'm a really crappy shot and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but with my trusty R1E, I'm the international sniper. Try it out, see if you like it and can get similar results. Maybe I just got lucky and got a really good example.

What did you all get for Chirstmas? Wifey got me a couple of mag pouches for my issued vest and some Magpul Kool-aid for my 870. Will post some pictures...the cell phone cam just doesn't do it justice.

I didn't get anything for X-mas, but I am picking up my Benelli Supernova 'Tac shotgun tomorrow, and the .45 I reluctantly decided to buy the day after. I'm not telling you guys which .45 because you guys will give me s**t for it, lol...

Now you gotta tell us....Most folks here seem pretty open-minded when it comes to firearms, haha, more open-minded than some anime.

The only thing I can think of that people might give you grief about is if you got a Norinco 1911, but then again, if you're from the states, you probably won't be able to get one anyway.

Don't tell us you got the RIA 1911...lol

Now you gotta tell us....Most folks here seem pretty open-minded when it comes to firearms, haha, more open-minded than some anime.

You can tell us. We're all friends here....

"Sigh" Alright I got the RIA 1911 'TAC but hear me out/LISTEN TO MY SONG! I was in the shop, and had a Kimber Custom II, Sig 1911 XO, Colt Government 1991, Springfield something or the other and the RIA 'Tac all laid out before me. I spent at least two hours picking up, holding, working the actions, dry firing and doing whatever I could to "feel" the right 1911 out but the conclusion I came to was this: unlike my Beretta 92FS NONE of the 1911's felt good in my hands. I remember the moment I squeezed the Beretta in my hands we just clicked and I had to have it-not so with the 1911's. Is it their slightly larger size? Shape? Have I been spending too much time with the Beretta? I don't get it either. Now, with all of the panic buying going on I wanted to dip my feet into .45's/1911's before the year went out, but I really didn't want to spend about grand on a gun that I already wasn't having a good feeling about, so I came to these conclusions:

1. I really liked the idea of a Colt 1911 to ride along with my Colt 'AR but it was the most expensive and the sights were the worst.

2. The Springfield Armory was a fine gun but it was right behind the Colt in price and it was in stainless, and they weren't sure if they could even find any other models to look at. I know that's shallow but what can I say.

3. The Sig 1911 XO seemed like a great gun, with 3 white-dot sights (my personal favorite) and a middle-road price but I didn't like the unique look of its slide and if you can believe this, the action on the one I handled wasn't as smooth or crisp as the other 1911's and certainly not my Beretta. I'm also told that Sig's customer service is less than stellar and IMO that's a deal breaker.

4. The Kimber Custom II had been my initial choice but my local gun forum can't complain enough about their reliability. Also, I didn't like the "custom" finish it had on it-this thing looked more like a show piece than a workhorse/tool/firearm.

5. The RIA 'Tac felt the same as the other 1911's in my hands, and dare I say it? The action and trigger felt just as good if not better than the other guns, with exception to the Springfield. Plus, I love the parkerized finish on this thing-it looks like a serious gun meant for usage. The deal-sealers were: the great reviews from just about everywhere, the reports of stellar customer service, and the price: it was on sale @ $450 while all the other guns cost about twice as much.

I'll say this much: I will shoot this 1911 .45ACP and if I grow to like it and become proficient at shooting with it, I promise I will go and revisit the other, more higher quality 1911's listed above and DEFINITELY buy one of them; I just couldn't justify the price and being unsure about my relationship with this platform I'm not sure on the risk. Again I thank you guys for your input and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Edit: Well, seeing how I can't find any damned .45ACP bullets this may all have been for nothing, lol. Can't find any 12 gauge either so my new shotgun is also going to have to wait things out...

Hey if it goes bang every time you squeeze the trigger then there's nothing to complain about I guess. I am completely opposite from you. I knew I wanted a 1911 for my first gun even before I held one in my hand. And since owning it I just love the feel of it especially with a hogue grip I have on it. A friend of mine got a 92FS and I was able to handle it for a bit but it didn't feel all that good or special to me. The ergonomics didn't seem to fit my small hands especially the placement of the safety. I wasn't able to to use my thumb to actuate it and I never gave it much thought after. It is a good looking gun though. lol

That is strange. I guess handguns really are a personal choice. One thing I'm not loving about the 92FS is the location of the 'ambi safety/decocker; I mean, really? It's a nuisance and I might have to consider the Taurus copy just because of it. If I figure out that I like the 1911 I WILL go back and buy a higher end model 1911...

I hated HATED the Beretta design when it was issued to me. Everything from the trigger pull to the safeties was and still is inferior to Glock (and the Glock copies like M&P and XD). Now I kind of miss it and planning to get a commercial M9 or M9A1 or 92FS one of these days.

I don't mind the RIA. Kimbers have way too much MIM/stamped parts to be counted as quality and really so do any Springfield models that don't come from the custom shop and are north of $2k. Good kill on the RIA.

Yeah, I don't like the decocker on the slide-what an odd design. I didn't know about the MIM on the Kimber and the lower-end Springfields-thanks for the heads up. One thing that bothers me about the RIA is the cast frame. For $500 I'm OK with it but anything after that the frame better be forged...

I love the 1911 platform so far. I haven't tried a Beretta yet, but I figure I'll eventually get one as I build my collection.

Here are my 1911s. One of them is a GSG 1911 in .22LR (cheap warm-up gun), and the other one is my Remington R1E:

and here's my 870 with my Christmas presents attached:
