Man, that would be lame.

In Gundam Evolve? Sure. A brief cameo in MS Igloo? Okay.

But if they put them in a major role in anything, I don't think it would work.

Crossbone has Amuro-in-a-jar.

And Unicorn has THAT Char, playing role as the main antagonist, I know it may not be our Char, but damn.

Nah...cloned Amuro brains don't count. If it doesn't have the red afro, it's not really Amuro. :p

I'll need to check up on that...Wikipedia (I know, I know...) has this to say:

It is hinted in the book that he may actually be the original Char Aznable, whose identity Casval Deikum took for himself, the chapter that introduces him is called "Red Comet" and it has been noted that both Char and Frontal's voices sound alike.

Thing is, I'm not sure there ever WAS a real Char Aznable in the anime (there certainly wasn't in the novelization), and I doubt that Unicorn is basing its story off of The Origin, since that showed Char's body floating in space after his shuttle was destroyed.

Then I hope we won't be seeing the obvious here in UC (

Holy poo, Char survived CCA.

Gundam should try and move away from amuro and char type characters, at least in UC shows as its getting tiresome. I suppose they can get away with it in AU shows as they are intended to attract a new audience who haven't seen UC before. The core fanbase for gundam are not small children anymore and are looking for new ideas, not recycled ones. Its too late to try and get such a fanbase in the west cos gundam is just too old so it can't compete with the new stuff, only the new AUs have a chance which is a real shame for us old fans. If gundam had come to the west earlier like macross (robotech) did then it may have stood a good chance.

You mean, "If Gundam had come to the west earlier as a butchered series it may have stood a good chance" ?

C'mon: all it would have done is the guys at MAHQ bitch about this as much as we do here on Robotech... :p

/Me wonders what additional show Macek would have chosen for this

If we exclude the butchering, then it probably would have stood a chance, but since robotech is popular in the west and there is a fanbase that are now fully grown adults, the same could have happened if it was gundam instead.

So...

Just to prove I'm retarded, I made the same mistake twice. I really wanted to see those Mobile Suite Gundam compilation movies rather than retreaving the 20 plus episodes of the original series that I haven't seen and...

accidentally downloaded that damned Gundam SEED movie... oops.

Anyways, I also started re-downloading MS Gundam (the original series) - figuring - what the hey. I watched about 16 or maybe 20 episodes before my computer crashed taking all of my anime with it... Having recovered Macross Frontier, Gurren Lagann, and DYRL (still gotta get around to saving SDFM TV)...I started yearning for Gundam again - largely because I have all these Gundam models sitting around that I need to build and wanted to get motivated...

Anyways - I watched the first part of the Gundam SEED movie while waiting for "Gundam Rising" to load - and then watched that.

Now - this is fun - because I'm watching both a second time, and getting a chance to compare them.

And - yeah - naturally I still like MSG better than the SEED movie - but now I can specify why...

and...it's wierd but...

It's because of the Animation :p

Yeah - wierd... right?

But seriously - SEED is too clean; and I don't like the characters hair. They're all grunge babies. They look like a cross between Bon Jovi and Nirvana. I love Bon Jovi (Nirvana not so much), but that doesn't mean EVERYBODY has to have hair like Bon Jovi.

I prefer the 70s hair of the MS Gundam people because it makes it look more realistic - or at least makes it look like I can actually connect to these people...

Er...ok - that's a pretty weak criticism...but...

I also like that MS Gundam is SLOWER. It's slow, but thanks to this it's also high on detail. Details like the eery silence and breathing-in-a-tin-can that we get at the very opening, with the "pssst!" as the Zakus change direction.

LOVELY.

SO much better than the death metal guitar riff and porno-orgasmic-voice-over-posing-for-suspenseful-gasps that SEED is full of.

I also like the fact that the soliders in MS Gundam are less flamboyant, more focused, and more human. In SEED, EVERYBODY has aristocratic names, locks in their hair, and EVERYBODY is always screaming like...well - like Alto..

Only Alto being melodramatic is fine because he's a Kabuki actor, he's flamboyant, and he's a conscious girly-boy in terms of his looks. Also - he's the only one going "WWWWRRRAAAAAAAAA!!!!" Michael doesn't do it. Luca doesn't do it. Klan does it like once or twice (and then it's something like "MIIIKKKHAAAEEELLL!!!") and heck - even Ozma doesn't do it; and when he does - it's timed better....

But these guys in SEED are all like...GASP! IS THAT YOU TOFU LE-CLERK!? YAAAARGGG!!" and it just gets really absurd...

Also, I guess I don't like the "powered up" Mobile Suits in SEED. All those extra weapon limbs... yuck...

Err...

Guess I haven't said anything new here - but it just often strikes me that the retro old stuff is so much better than the newer stuff...in general...

Oh well - maybe this time I'll manageto finish MSG :)

Started watching season 1 of Gundam 00 "Celestial Being" on Bandai's youtube channel.

Boy is this a stinker. Watched 4 episodes of the dub to give it a chance. Characters (maybe just a fault of the dubs) are either whiny voiced girls of boring pretty boys of few words. Wow monotone people who express less emotion than my toaster. No clear "villain" yet. Just two dozen characters who say monotone comments about politics. As a viewer why should I care about these characters? Even if you take away the boring talking there is nothing about them to cheer for. The Earth in this series is politically very much like are own. The heroes are a neutral party that is attacking anyone that even hints of taking hostile action against another. I wonder who gave them the right? We will bring end all wars by killing people and scaring the crap out of them with our Gundams.

Those are all supposed to be the strong points of the series.

More broadly though - this is kind of what turns me off to Tomino's work or Tomino-related media like Gundam OO. The radical equalization of everyone and the abolition of the possibilityo f heroism is pretty bleak and it does kind of sap the juice out of a show.

But - Gundam OO is not that bad actually IMO. I've only seen like 5 episodes - so who am I to talk - but it didn't strike me as a stinker like SEED did. As for the characters - well -I watched subs and they didn't all come out monotone or boring. They DID come out somewhat flat and not very colorful - but the Zendradi weren't exactly a colorful bunch either; and with Gundam - people are basically like the Zendradi - it's just war, war war, conflict, conflict, conflict - and there is little to be tantalized about - unless your a strategy buff like that one Tieren commander seemed to be...

I guess the fact that I couldn't stomach more than 5 episodes of Gundam 00 is testimony enough of how much I generally agree with your sentiment. But on principle I can't agree with your reasoning because the show did show signs of - going somewhere with the plot...

It's just that I'm more interested in watching things with passion in them than things where everything is so bleak...

Although - I dunno - I LIKE the original Mobile Suite Gundam, and it's just as bleak, and the characters are equally blaze - except maybe Char - who seems to know a thing or two about life - but I just love the 70s aesthetics, the design of the White Base, the sound-work...

One day - when there's nothing better to watch - I'll return to Gundam 00 and give it a better chance.

I just watched the 3rd episode of Igloo 2, its got to be the best out of the lot, its got everything from tanks gms, goufs, doms and the land base battle cruisers like big tray. The Guntanks kick ass and we get to see a jet stream attack by the doms too

Seeing all the abscure vehicles from the orginal show and giving them a realistic appearance is really pleasing to the eyes, in fact this whole series has been a total mecha porn. I don't care much for the story but the visuals are brilliant. If they continue UC gundam this way i would be really happy and even happier if they expand from the other shows like Zeta

Now if only i could find a english translaion of this episode

Part of what I like about Gundam 00 is that and this is a bit of a spoiler is they don't get away with their actions. Usually when you have a team like this I feel they are always shown as being in the right and in the end turn out to be the heroes of the show. I don't feel 00 does that in either season 1 or season 2. The gundam team are terrorist and they are treated as such. They also know what they are and what they are actually doing as well. It's an interesting fine line the show walks. We see things from their point of view usually but I don't think the show ever once shows them as "right" and they suffer (deservingly so one can argue) due to their actions. This isn't team Lacus from SEED who can do no wrong, always wins and doesn't suffer. Complete opposite in a way.

The show does start off slow however. That's a negative towards it but it does heat u once you get past the single number episodes after the sides are established. Season 2 on the other hand hits the ground running from episode 1.

Anyone else been keeping up with the Tonight show? Pierre Bernard once again lets his anime fandom show through in a recent episode.

http://www.tonightshowwithconanobrien.com/...es/#vid=1134301

At 24:30, the "Larry King Transformer" is actually what looks like a mangled Strike Gundam, while right after, the "Conan Transformer" is a not even remotely hidden EZ 8 (still has the freakin' lettering on the frame!) lol.

In its very last sentence, this ANN article clearly says:

"English is confirmed as one of the several languages into which Gundam Unicorn will be translated."

An international website for Unicorn is also open since a few days

For the first time of my life, I'll order japanese DVDs directly from Japan :)

I hope by "world wide" they also mean the UK also, but i won't get my hopes up since the UK market is utter crap. I would get the dvds either from america or japan, I would love to go blu ray, but the god damn regoin coding sucks and theres no hack for it yet

but if it really does come out in the UK i would really like to get the Blu rays versions of Unicorn.

Has Bandai ever considered animating Sentinel, Crossbone, and some of the other more obscure stories contained in manga, novels and magazines? I mean, if they can do Unicorn...

Unicorn is the first in recent history, so assumedly if it does well, they'll branch out more. Unless you count the game cut scenes for some of the odds & ends RX-78 varients.

Ngee Khiong posted a link to a video called "30th Gundam Perfect Mission", featuring major Gundams from various Gundam series (UC/AU) serving as backup to... the RX-78-2's Core Fighter  But it's veeeerrryyy epic! Y'all gotta watch it!

Possibly a promotional material for a new series?
