rnurmin
I found an auction for a Gakken Beta figher (NOT MY AUCTION). Just wanted to share this finding. EBAY LINK The seller had a picture of the Beta linked together with an Alpha Fighter.
jenius
Man... I would love to see that thing connected to my MIB 1/72 blue legioss instead of that red one... maybe I should buy it LOL, this thing will probably be out of my price range within the next couple hours. TheLoneWolf
Didn't the last Tread on ebay go for about $96? While it had a broken arm and wheel, that's pretty low considering that broken 1/55's used to go for about $250 five years ago. It'll be interesting to see how the news of Toynami's Beta will affect sales of the old Gakken Treads.

Roy's Blues
I think it looks like crap when it's linked up. I hope the toynomi one looks better, but it's TOYNAMI. /glass half-full kinda guy.
jenius
What's wrong with it when it's connected? I think it looks good.
armentage
That toy seriously looks like a piece of garbage. The proportions, colors, etc. they are all horrible. It looks like two toys with no connection to each other smashed together with some rubber cement. It's ugly to boot all by itself.
jenius
I think you guys might just hate the Beta/Tread itself, regardless of the 1/72 toy. The Alpha toy it mates with is an abomination, the Beta toy is clearly the better of the two.
Roy's Blues
The anime/line-art I have seen always made it look a lot cleaner, sleeker. I recently sold my 1/35 gakken scott alpha and cyclone, because of toynami's upcoming beta release. My MPC alpha did not asplode out of the spiffy packaging, but it was a let down in terms of poseability. I keep it in fighter mode now just to add the beta to it. pics of what i mean

The only reason people care about it is because it's so rare and expensive, if it wasn't... no one would want them.

I agree that the beta is the better of the two. What's the sense in making a combiner toy, if it looks like crap when combined?
BoBe-Patt
did I predict it or what? hehe. well it's close to 300 already. Close enough I guess. Dang, I'm so glad toynami is making one. Whoa did I just say that?

jorawar_b
I would wait for the toynami to come out, anyone know what colors will be out, last I was told it was only the blue and the shadow?
Anubis
reserve still not met at 345. Wow One the toynami comes out I'd expect demand for this to drop sharply. One smart thing Toynami is making. Hopefully it's sturdy this time, but there's no question it'll still be superior to this thing. Knowing Toynami they'll release all 4. No sense in not reusing the mold. If they do only Blue and Shadow then that would still be cool anway. The Green one was animated as well however. The only one I would consider buying personally would be the Shadow Beta.
jenius
No one buys the Gakken because it's a wonderful toy. I doubt the Toynami release will do much to significantly decrease its value. Special note: If you include the animation from RT2: The Sentinels then all four of the Betas have made appearanaces in animation. Toynami has stated that they're only definitely doing the blue one, variations after that would depend on sales of the blue one. I would bet we'll see all of 'em though. Ishimaru
Oh yah that reminds me, at the Robotech stands at AX they had the Beta and Alpha prototype toys, well they werent painted or anything just scuplted I bet its from Toynami since the sign said "Do Not Take Pictures Sculpter Hasnt Authorized Pictures Being Taking" well something like that. But me and another guy just took a picture of it anways and the guys at the booth didnt mind damn losers muhahahaha I got the prototype pictures. Anyways back to topic I would display pictures but I dont got them developed yet and I might get in trouble here cause toynami might go after me, ya want me to postem later? Iam postive they will make productions of Beta though. Funny how I got the pictures though...
Pat S
There are tons of pictures available of the painted Toynami sculpt and some of the unpainted one. Don't worry about posting pics, we've seen the thing. Many are available on robotech.com as well. Edited October 16, 2005 by Pat S
wwwmwww
Wow!!! Nice auction. These are always fun to watch. Someone PM'ed me and asked me if this was the Gakken Tread or the Lansay Tread. Just to be clear... the Lansay Treads were made by Gakken Singapore and sold by Lansay in France. This one is definately a Lansay Tread. What I call a Gakken Tread here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mospeada/_main_carlhoff.htm was made by Gakken Japan and actually never made it to market. The stamp on the back of mine looks like this: Note... no mention of Singapore. Seller... if you are here on MacrossWorld PM me... I'd love to say "hi". Bmaximum
Damn good eye, I'll have to check the back of mine now and record it for future reference. BTW Carl, do you know anyone that has the original production decals for this beast? BTW Carl, do you know anyone that has the original production decals for this beast? 337204 The Lansay Tread came packaged with a Legioss. From what I've been told the instruction booklet that came with the set was the same booklet that came with the Legioss by itself. In short there was never an instruction booklet for the Tread. The set however did come with 2 decal sheets, one for the Legioss and one for the Tread. I've seen a scan of the Thread decal sheet before and the place I should have put it was here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mospeada/lansa...y_tread_toy.htm I'm not sure where its at now or if I even still have it. I'll look. My tread however has about twice as many decals as came with the Lansay tread and I've been told mine is the only made in Japan Gakken Tread to have any decals unless some of them have come across a Lansay decal sheet. I was told decals were made for mine as it was assembled for a Gakken catalog shoot that never took place. I can't say I'm sure that's true but it's what I was told. I think the Lansay decals are a subset of the decals on mine but I'm not sure of that at the moment. If I can find that scan I should be able to verify that. Bmaximum
An update: I'm unsure but I believe the seller KNOWS which tread is more sought after. I've asked him quite a few times which tread the one he's selling is and he skirts the question. We all know which it is, I just want to see if he'll admit it... Thanks for the info Carl, all mine needs is the original decals and I'm set! I'll keep looking around.
wwwmwww
Thanks for the info Carl, all mine needs is the original decals and I'm set! I'll keep looking around. 338181 You are welcome. I don't think I'm going to have much luck locating that scan. While I was cnh@ti.com I was in contact with several Lansay Tread owners. One of them had the decal sheet and scanned it for me. I think my only copy of it might have been still sitting in that email accout which I lost all access to in a very short time span back in September of 2003. At the time, saving pics and email address was the last of my worries and I lost tons of info. I might have posted the scan in the old forums but I don't have access to that now either. Shawn has talked about burning all the images saved in the old forums to a CD for me in the past but so far he just hasn't had time, but to be honest I'm not even sure it's there. If any of you Lansay Tread owners out there see this please PM me. TI sort of pushed me off the edge of the earth there for a while but I'm now back on my feet. I'd like to be able to throw questions at you guys every now and again but I don't think I have any of your email addresses now. Does anyone here have a Macross ID or email address for any of the following? Akim Mehamel Yvan West Laurence Alex Bickmore That's all I can remember at the moment. Just found Alex's email address here: http://www.toyarchive.com/ I hope it's still good. I can't tell if that page has been updated since 1997. I'll try emailing him and see if he's the one that sent me the scan. It's a long shot. Carl Edited October 21, 2005 by wwwmwww
Mechamaniac
Seriously, that toy looks like ass. It's funny how a few years ago, these were only whispered about in dark little rooms, and only a select few who had thousands of dollars ever actually owned one. Isn't it odd how many are showing up now on Ebay?. There have been at least three in as many months now. Methinks some of the owners are getting rid of the poo ugly version in favor of the Toynami version.

Mechamaniac
Yeah, for nostalgic "one of a kindedness" it rocks. It's one of the rarest toys ever. It's just strange that so many of them are popping up now.

How'd you pull that off? Anyways... I'm glad to be back in touch. Also, unless I'm mistaken isn't this just the decal sheet for the Legioss? I thought the tread has its own decals sheet.
