Any good toy shops in Tokyo

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m a first time poster long time lurker. I'm currently in Japan on a business trip and am trying to find some 1/48 scale valks.

I found a couple shops with 1/60 valks in Akihabara and Ueno but was not able to find any 1/48 valks. I did manage to score a VB-6 :) They have another one for 15200 yen if anyone is interested.

Does anyone know where I can find any 1/48s? I would like to get at least one. I would also like to find some fast packs but i'm afraid they are long gone.

Thanks

Richard

Akihabara has some second hand and collectible stores in which you can find some 1/48s but be prepared for very inflated prices IMO. You can find them if you exit through electric town exit and walk along the main road, I think there are 3 or 4 hobby stores, one with more than 4 floors.

Fast packs are way gone (again unless you search for those hobby shops in Akihabara).

The Koning you could have bought it at Toys R Us at Odaiba, I bought mine there for 13000 yen, and they still had some the last time I went.

Well, if Akihabara isn't your cup of tea, try Mandarake in Nakano. Go out the station, turn right and it's the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the SunPlaza (or SunCity or something like that) shopping arcade.

Thanks for all your help. Looks like i have some shopping to do :)

As for the VB-6. I thought it was over priced but i didn't wanna come home empty handed .

Armentage. what does "ecchi na manga ha doko? onegaishimas!" mean?

I asked a lady in the office and she started laughing saying something about dirty magazines :)

"Echhi" has a number of meanings, but is most commonly used to mean "perverted!". "Manga" are Japanese comic books, and onegaishimas sounds like "please". I believe "doku" is "do you have?" or "where are the?". You can probably work out why your friend started laughing now...

The Nakano Mandarake is easily spotted from a Chuo line train at Nakano station, by the way - just look for the cathedral like entrance across the road from the station. You need to walk right to the back of the mall and then use the escalators or stairs to go up a couple of floors. Then you can die happy!

This thread belongs in the "Where to Buy" section. :)

Anyways, you should visit the Mandarake site, it gives detailed maps and instructions how to travel there. Aw, screw it... here:

I'd go with what others said about Akihibara. LAOX did have (as of January) 1/48 Milias for 13000 yen (didn't bother with them once I saw how friggin huge those boxes are), I think some other places did too. I also saw a VF-11B FP for like 8500 yen (regret not buying it). But I did get some vintage stuff for cheap (which was always good) and I got to stare at those Sharp Aquos tvs (man those look good!). I'd say the FPs are long gone.

Are there any places in Osaka?

Do the TRU's carry 1/48's?

The reason i ask is because i have a friend who lives in Osaka but will be moving back to the states in August.

I was thinking of asking him to get me a 1/48.

Another question though, are 1/48's that are bought in Japan cheaper then here? (Valkyrie Exchange, etc...)

Or it's about the same either way.

First question: Again, Mandarake in Umeda and Namba, see previous post. Also, Yodobashi Camera in Umeda has toys in the 5th floor. They still have 1/48 TV Maxs and Millias in stock.

Apart from that, try Nipponbashi, near Namba. That whole area is filled with toy shops like Yellow Submarine, Kotobukiya, etc. There are bound to be plenty of 1/48s there. The thing is I haven't actually been in quite a while so I'm not sure what's in stock and what isn't, though.

As for prices, the best people to ask are Bariaburu Faita and Samurai M. I do not know what the prices are over at VE etc. but over in Japan you can find deals if you look hard enough. I got a Binaltech Overdrive brand new for just Y1260 recently. :D

Ouch, just a bit late. Volks, which had the biggest stock of 1/48 that I know of, just sold all of their remaining 1/48 for 5-6,000yen.
