  1. Coming to theaters on July 24 is Pixels, a sci-fi comedy remake of the 2010 French short film of the same name. Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Bicentennial Man), the film is about an alien invasion in the form of '80s video game icons such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Unfortunately, it also stars Adam Sandler, which means this film will be a likely entry on the Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time thread. Pixels @ IMDb

  3. Hey everyone, I am not really sure if this fits in here, but the "off-topic" area should be good as this probably works under Science Fiction. Yesterday the trailer for the newest installment of Call of Duty was released. Except for the first Black Ops, Call of Duty was mostly a let down for me since Modern Warefare. Somehow this trailer made me interested again. Spoilers ahead if you didn't watch the trailer yet: I think I am going to try this one. Not on day one, but when it is on a Steam Sale or something else. What are your thoughts? PS: I know CoD is always something people start to argue about, so please be nice to each other.
  4. Haven't seen a topic about this one yet, but it looks like Bungie is beginning the advance marketing for its new game titled Destiny. The game is a FPS, but looks like a lot more with a much broader, more interactive game environment and social network considerations. A new look at the game has been released: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/bungie-talks-about-destiny/2300-7056/ This looks like a great new project. It feels like a lot of the creativity from this studio is once again at the forefront for Destiny. They may just have more to them than Halo, which would be a nice surprise. Anyone else interested?
  5. I was wodering is there any zone of enders mech toys out there?
  6. Anyone else checked out the big press announcement for the Playstation 4? There's actually a lot of good information in the announcement. Here's a breakdown of what was covered in the 2 hour presentation: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/the-playstation-4-exists/1100-4583/ The big rumor going around now seems to be that "The Last Guardian" (the next game from the creators of "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus") is being delayed so it can be released on the PS4 instead of the PS3. Thoughts? Praise? Complaints?
  7. They're being coy, but there is little doubt What's that behind the "title"? Enhancement shows the way...
  8. The Global President of Nintendo is dead! http://kotaku.com/nintendos-president-has-passed-away-1717386412 Please Understand!
  9. Out of the ashes of the now-bankrupt Midway Games comes a new hope for all Mortal Kombat fans. Developed by NetherRealm Studios (formerly Midway) under the supervision of the game's co-creator Ed Boon, the new MK returns to its 2D fighting roots, dropping the 3D sidestepping of the past games. Players who love doing combo chains will love two of the game's new features: Tag Team and X-Ray. Tag Team appears to be more or less like the Marvel vs. Capcom series. X-Ray mode enables players to see exactly how much damage they do to their opponents with combos that inflict over 40% damage. Already confirmed to appear in the game as playable characters are Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Mileena, Nightwolf, Reptile, Sektor and Shang Tsung. Shao Kahn appears in the the trailer, but it is unknown if he is a playable character. Boon says he's aiming to have a total of 26 playable characters in the roster. Mortal Kombat is set for release in Spring 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
  10. How many people here were fans of Bullfrog's Syndicate or Syndicate Wars? For me, it was one of the first games I ever played on the Amiga 500 that just sucked me into a world of cyberpunk and espionage - loved the atmosphere, music and feel of the game. So - long story short, my friends have put together a Kickstarter (went live yesterday) to fund the spiritual successor to Syndicate and Syndicate Wars - they're all going to be made redundant by August (game dev studio closing down, I worked with them at a previous game dev - when that also closed down several years ago), and they've even got one of the original creators on the team as well as the original sound designer and composer of they reach a certain goal - check out the link below and see what you think - hey even pledge a bit of change if u wanna see it become a reality! Even if they weren't my buddies - I'd still get this game :3 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/5livesstudios/satellite-reign
  11. Looks pretty damn cool IMO. Didn't think the colony would still be there though....unless it was farther from the atmosphere processing plant than originally thought. Still gonna pick this up. Trailer looks fantastic. http://ingame.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/09/01/7544289-decades-later-aliens-gets-a-sequel-you-can-play Chris
  12. Ralph Baer, the man called the "Father of Video Games", has died at the age of 92. http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/7/7350497/ralph-baer-obituary While it's natural that we all pass, it's worth a moment to think about and celebrate a man who was instrumental in creating one of the great art and entertainment mediums of the modern age. Thank you Ralph.
  13. Looks like fun, especially if you are into SF or big-ass space ships :-)
  14. Details from Comic Con's Mass Effect Panel This is coming from Game Informer, with more details to come this evening. Pics of the new Mako and the male and female armored character models shown. One report I read had the new game taking place during Shepard's lifetime, and that some old characters might appear. I suspect they meant era, as the designs shown seem more advanced then what we saw in the trilogy. More info should be out this evening as the gaming media's reports start coming in.
  15. There was some news from SDCC, and this is the first solid footage I've seen of this rumored game: Weird, the official website is now suspended. I can imagine the rage if this game sucks...

  17. Looking pretty sweet! http://gematsu.com/2014/01/first-look-mobile-suit-gundam-side-story-missing-link
  18. It may have a name that sounds like a gay porn but it's actually just an anime video game. Just watched a video about a game called Astebreed and it's a very visually rich shoot 'em up in the anime style we've all come to know and love. The game is built in 3D with game play changing from side-scroller shooter to top-down shooter to 3rd person shooter as you move throughout the environment. Lots of trademark visuals, including a giant robot with a sword, lots of energy weapons and of course, an Itano circus attack. Check it out: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-astebreed/2300-9194/ Not sure if I'm totally sold on the game, but that name sure is giving me a chubby
  19. So, any Ace Combat fans in here? I'm kinda torn on what I think of Ace Combat Legacy...I mean, I have enough hope to make a fantrailer for it, but, still...Strangereal meats RL? I dunno. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5TWl1nQtYo&feature=youtu.be <- Just in case anyone is interested in the trailer I made for it.
  20. The next installment to the franchise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5IVOs5Pxh8&feature=plcp
  21. can anyone recommend any gundam related games? Online is preferred
  22. Yesterday morning at about 4:00 AM, I finished episoded 110 of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Wow... It took me about three weeks to finish it all from start to end and it was more than worth it. I have to say, without any hesitation, that this is one of the greatest series of all time. More often than not, I can predict fairly well where a show is going and how it will end, but not with this one. It took so many twists and turns along the way that the only thing I could do was just hang on and see what happens next. Plus, how can I not like a setting where the boarding weapon of choice is the battle axe? Anyway, I highly recommend the show for those who haven't seen it yet (there's a petition to bring it over to the US at: http://www.gineigoods.com/form/ . Also, any thoughts or comments from fellow LotGH fans?
  23. If you believe I'm going to be unbiased thank you. Now stop living in dream world. The Review: Okay I don't think that much of Robotech. I'm sure some of you know that already but what you don't know is that back in 1986 my friends in the 5th grade and I road our bikes around pretending they were cyclones. How lame was that! Back in the 80's that was my favorite saga of Robotech. Even though I consider myself a pure Macross fan I still have a little soft spot in my cold blacken heart for cyclones blasting Invids. I first saw this game a couple of months ago but I had other games that I want to play first. When I saw this game I laughed. Flash forward to Xmas. I have the holiday off and I decided to rent a game. You didn't think I would buy this game now did you? Since I played all the other games I wanted I decided to finally rent this one. Battle Cry sucked but that was a first attempt. This one would have to be better. Note the games I played before renting this one were Samurai Warriors Extreme Legends, MSG Snake Eater and Ace Combat 5. Yes those games were better but that doesn't mean Invasion was bad. Using a cyclone to blast invid it's a great idea and fun at time yet the game seemed like a half effort. You know when a new system comes out the first games for it are sorta so so and as years go by the games get better and better that make the earlier games weak in comparsion? Invasion is like one of those earlier games. If I played it a few years ago I would have like it more. Now the problems. First you can't drive a cyclone in motorcyle indoors. Go take ahead the fun away. Second you can't kill allies, sometimes I just want to shoot friends. The music is something else. Artero(?) pilots a girl's cyclone does that mean he goes both ways? I can't drive a cyclone through a tent. Every one seem to have the same face to me. How come Locke has to fights the latin woman? I think an orgy with them would have been better. Who agree with me? Sad no one got any "action." The voices. Can we talk about the voices? Yep a lot of Robotech VO are in the game. Fine with me. It's a nice odd but that Sam character. That voice was just errrgghhhhhh. My biggest complaint has to be the way the story was presented. Where's the CGI mini animated intro movies and cut scenes that we've come to expect from current games? This one had some but animation quality was the same as the game play. Don't these tend to be of better quality? Then there's those flash blacks (with great dialog btw ) those would have been perfect spots to throw in a movie but I'd you get blury vision and hear some bad screaming. A lot of the story was told through others screaming dialog during battle. If it wasn't for my earlier knowledge of Robotech I wouldn't understand what the hell was going on. I swear half the time I time didn't and still don't. Overall: This game was better than Battle Cry but was just an okay experience. Had the story been presented better I would have thought much better about this game.
  24. http://page.freett.com/grape2004/index.htm Any fans of the old Sega Saturn games or good mecha games in general should totally check out this game! It looks a little dated (rather intentionally as it uses the 3d models from the Saturn games) but plays incredibly well and is a lot of fun! Forgot about those other games where the robots just fire ineffectual pew pews, your HIGH-MACS has a real tank gun, rockets, and missiles! I'm serious this game is freakin' amazing! While it is a Japanese game most of the menus are in English.
  25. Joystiq.com Kojima gauging gamer interest in new Zone of the Enders by Randy Nelson { Apr 22nd 2009 at 9:30PM } PlayStation Six years after the release of the last console game in the series, Hideo Kojima is talking Zone of the Enders. Specifically, the Kojima Productions founder (and creator of a little series called Metal Gear) asks if gamers are really interested in a Zone of the Enders 3 during a new episode of MGS4's in-game "Integral" podcast. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner -- the, well, second game in the series -- was directed by MGS4 co-writer and director, Shuyo Murata, and remains a fan favorite in addition to a critical success; we're surprised it's taken Kojima this long to broach the topic of a sequel. In closing out a discussion about the demand for a follow-up, Kojima and his podcasting partners ask gamers to email them if they'd be interested in seeing it happen. Kojima-san, about your mail server ... we're sorry about its imminent death under the weight of all those emails. Surely you can buy a new one with profits from ZOE 3?
