  1. Miami Vice Universal Pictures, 1984-1989, 2005-2007 Created by Anthony Yerkovich (Hill Street Blues, Big Apple) Executive Producer: Michael Mann (Collateral, Heat) Running Time: 50 minutes per episode (110 minutes for the pilot episode) Rated TV-14 for violence, suggestive drug use, and mild language. Cast Don Johnson as Detective James "Sonny" Crockett (a.k.a. Sonny Burnett) Philip Michael Thomas as Detective Ricardo Tubbs (a.k.a. Teddy Prentiss) Edward James Olmos as Lt. Martin Castillo Saundra Santiago as Detective Gina Navarro Calabrese Olivia Brown as Detective Trudy Joplin Michael Talbott as Detective Stan Switek John Diehl as Detective Larry ZitoGregory Sierra as Lt. Lou Rodriguez (eps. 1-4) In 1984, Universal Pictures and NBC unleashed a new kind of cop show on network television. Miami Vice featured the adventures of loose cannon Sonny Crockett and New York transfer Ricardo Tubbs, as they teamed up to clean the Miami streets of drug cartels and high-profile hoodlums. It was a major gamble for Universal, as they spent an average of US$1.5 million per episode. But thanks to the show's use of cutting-edge cinematography, outrageous wardrobe designs, elaborate pastel backgrounds, theatrical-grade special effects, a completely unique soundtrack and gritty storytelling, Miami Vice garnered dozens of nominations and awards from the Emmys and Golden Globes. It even launched the careers of big-name actors like Ving Rhames, John Leguizamo, Julia Roberts and Wesley Snipes. Styles come and go, and Miami Vice may have ended a decade and a half ago, but it still continues to inspire just about everyone in the entertainment industry. As a matter of fact, it was the key inspiration to Rockstar Games' best-selling game Grand Theft Auto Vice City. I'll tell you one thing: I never get tired of watching Miami Vice. And with 22 episodes on three double-sided discs, this newly-released DVD season 1 boxed set makes the viewing experience even better. Each episode is digitally remastered with crisp 5.1 surround sound audio. Whether it's the explosive action or the awesome title theme by Jan Hammer (Beyond the Mind's Eye), you have to crank it up. And sure, much of the series is over-the-top, but hey - it was the '80s; a decade devoid of boring reality-based TV shows. Aside from Sledge Hammer! and The A-Team, Miami Vice remains among the most fun-to-watch from that era. If you love this show as much as I do, then it's mandatory to add this boxed set to your collection. First-timers will want to check this out before Universal releases the new Miami Vice movie next year. Rating: A DVD Extras: A- Disc 1 includes the following supplemental material: - The Vibe of Vice - An introduction to how the series became a hit. - Building the Perfect Vice - Interviews with the people who created the series. - The Style of Vice - A look at the show's fashion and how it influenced pop culture. - The Music of Vice - How music by Jan Hammer, Phil Collins and other top artists made the soundtrack a best-seller. - Miami After Vice - Just a travel commercial by the City of Miami. 3. Any other fans of Hirohiko Araki here? The artist famous for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure! I recommend it for anyone looking for a mature Manga title with some strange magical storylines and cool fight scenes. The Manga(Generation 3 anyway) is now coming out here finally! http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?series_id=224 I am hoping if it sells well that we can get Generations 1-2,and 4-7 over here. You can also get the OVA's of the same series here. http://www.supertechnoarts.com/ So far I have read through volume 3 and love it. I ordered the entire set of DVDs after reading this review http://www.dvdvisionjapan.com/Jojodvd1.htm I cant wait to watch them. I cant put my finger on it but I really did the style and art in Jojo's. It is a mix of Tetsuo Hara(Fist of the North Star/Blue Sky) and something more akin to a standard Shonen Weekly. If anyone has any info on the other series or just some comments that would be cool. Thanks!
  4. Rest in peace dear sir. Thank you for the laughs and your performance in Good Will Hunting.
  5. So did anyone else watch this new show tonight? I'm watching it right now and surprisingly its pretty good.

  7. Not sure if this was already posted, but this is a new series premiering tonight on Adultswim/Toonami. So far I am definitely enjoying it.
  8. Anyone else seen the pilot for this one. Watched it last night and will keep watching, if I don't forget or have laundry to do... Not terrible but not great. Supposedly a follow up to the movie "Legion", but I have never seen that movie so can't compare - though I plan to put it on my Netflix queue. Basically God goes away and the Angels start a war on Earth, the show picks up 25 (?) years later.

  10. So while Macross Frontier will probably never be broadcast on US TV on Sy Fy channel they started up season 1.5 for Heroes of Cosplay. I included a link and it has Yaya Han dressed as Sherly Nome in her Kimono outfit at 9 sec and 16 sec in this promo for episode 7. Not sure if you'll need a VPN to view it and SyFy may put up the full episode in a day or two. Keep in mind the show isn't the greatest but it puts exposure into Cosplay and Macross Frontier in a minor way at least. Link http://www.syfy.com/videos/Heroes%20of%20Cosplay/Promos/vid:2782200 Here's the link to pics of the costume she wore on her site as the video is real fast http://www.yayahan.com/portfolio/costumes/sheryl-nome-oiran-garb-macross-frontier
  11. The Jack Bauer POWER hour is back...but this time it's 12 episodes instead of 24. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo4_r5RlBII
  12. Yes, you read right. On April 13th there will be a Parade/Event in Kichijoji & Inokashira Park. Parade(Cosplay incl.) starts at 12:30 till 14:00. On the northside(rotunda) will be a 8m Meter 1/1 Replica of a Patlabor, I think it will be the prop from the upcoming life-action movie. Details at http://www.kichijoji-event.com Worthwhile a visit methinks.
  13. While there were some hints to this in his new book....well its good that the man gets to make whatever makes him happy, but I'm hoping he gets around to a new Macross sometime soon... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-03-21/macross/escaflowne-kawamori-unveils-the-fool-project
  14. Yesterday morning at about 4:00 AM, I finished episoded 110 of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Wow... It took me about three weeks to finish it all from start to end and it was more than worth it. I have to say, without any hesitation, that this is one of the greatest series of all time. More often than not, I can predict fairly well where a show is going and how it will end, but not with this one. It took so many twists and turns along the way that the only thing I could do was just hang on and see what happens next. Plus, how can I not like a setting where the boarding weapon of choice is the battle axe? Anyway, I highly recommend the show for those who haven't seen it yet (there's a petition to bring it over to the US at: http://www.gineigoods.com/form/ . Also, any thoughts or comments from fellow LotGH fans?
  15. Debbie Gibson is back!
  16. Helix on IMDb. Didn't find using Search. The premier is this Friday, the 10th at 10 pm EST. Here's a 15 minute preview; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CviEeDRBr6w Looks interesting enough, is anyone else going to watch? -b.
  17. Sunrise's newest offering into the world of mechs anime will premiere on January 5th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=t_Y5PEEmwQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yDoOvGjwedo https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GuRZ9VF9TLg It seems this show will start off with Sunrise's traditional "average joe is just living life until said life is rudely interrupted by giant robots" schtick. Here's some of the mechs from the show Macross fans should note that Sho Hayami (Max Jenius) and Marina Inoue (M30's Aisha Blanchette) will be in the show. Let's hope this one isn't as bat**** insane as Valvrave.
  18. The second batch of the season 6 episodes will start in June on Comedy Central. Prepare to laugh, cry, and throw up apparently this summer. Hope you have a strong stomach for this. Also, more good news everyone! The voice actors have been hinting that the series has been picked up for additional seasons, but today I think it's becoming more likely. 20. So we finally have a teaser trailer of sorts. http://www.animenews...-promo-streamed Ship designs are nicely detailed, although I still say the head looks like a cross between Tiger & Bunny and Aquarion ...
  21. They actually have a whole slew of SciFi titles in development... A bunch of series, many with spaceships (and most of them at least sound interesting to me) http://www.blastr.com/2013-4-10/syfy-developing-7-new-series-aliens-magic-angels-and-more And two Miniseries I am looking forward to seeing as well. http://www.blastr.com/2013-4-10/syfy-announces-childhoods-end-and-ringworld-miniseries Of course, being SyFy, I am prepared for disappointment...
  22. Obligatory link to the old thread, now in the Hall of Supertopics. Anyway, Michael Bay's dream has come true, and Transformers hit on Blu-ray today. It took so long to load on my PS3 that I had to check Google to see if that was normal. I'm not sure if it was, since I do need to do a System Update, but it did eventually load. Anyway, visually I didn't notice a difference from the HD-DVD. Some people online seem to think it is better, and hey, maybe it is. My TV only does 720p/1080i, so maybe those of you with a 1080p TV will see a difference I don't. The audio is greatly improved, however. I dare say it is to the HD-DVD what the HD-DVD was to the DVD, although I am sorry to report that it's just Dolby TrueHD. The bassy blast from Blackout's EMP still seemed a bit bigger in the theater, but it's a huge improvement vs. the HD-DVD. Depending on how much you like the movie, you're mileage may vary. Aside from the audio, it's still basically the HD-DVD package. For me, though, I decided the improved audio and the fact that I can now stuff my 360's HD-DVD player in a closet and forget about it (Transformers was my last HD-DVD) was worth going Blue for.
  23. trailer - MGM has provided us with three "SGU: Stargate Universe" posters and the new trailer for the SyFy show premiering on October 2nd. "SGU" follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them. looks cool i think, more serious tone.
  24. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors DIC Entertainment, 1985 Shout! Factory, 2008 Created by Jean Chalopin (founder of DIC) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future) Running Time: 22 minutes per episode Rated TV-G. Enjoy the show. Thundering across the stars to save the universe from the Monster Minds. Jayce searches for his father to unite the Magic Root and lead his Lightning League to victory over the changing form of Saw Boss. Wheeled Warriors explode into battle. Lightning strikes! Cast Darrin Baker as Jayce Charles Jolliffe as Gillian Len Carlson (1937-2006) (Ganon in The Legend of Zelda, Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man) as Herc Stormsailor Valerie Politis as Flora Luba Goy as Oon Guilio Kukurugya as Saw Boss Dan Hennessey (Chief Quimby in Inspector Gadget, Brave Heart Lion in Care Bears) as Audric Ernie Anderson (1923-1997) (famous '80s voiceover) as the Narrator "Ring of Light, Magic Might!" Audric, a renowned scientist, does experiments with plants to find a cure to galactic hunger. But when a solar flare hits his laboratory, the plants mutate into evil creatures known as the Monster Minds - led by the maniacal Saw Boss. As the Monster Minds conquer most of the galaxy, Jayce is given one-half of the Magic Root and leadership of the legendary Lightning League. Allied with the magician scientist Gillian, the squire robot Oon, the plant-human girl Flora and the intergalactic courier Herc Stormsailor, Jayce travels across the galaxy in search of his father to unite the Magic Root and eliminate the Monster Minds for good. Story: B+ I remember the good old days of coming back from school and watching this show on KTTV 11 before Thundercats. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is what some people like to call "Star Wars on wheels." The series' title character has some Luke Skywalker in him, while Herc Stormsailor is clearly a Han Solo copy. And then there's the rather hokey premise of our heroes battling evil vegetable vehicles. Still, the characters are likeable and the storylines are involving. This show is everything Titan A.E. should've been, and more. Animation: B As with Thundercats, Centurions and many other popular '80s American cartoons, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is Japanese animated. The quality on many episodes was state-of-the-art back in 1985, and it still holds its own today when compared with other '80s cartoons released on DVD. Soundtrack: A- Perhaps the strongest point of this series is the music. The orchestral score by Shuki Levy (Inspector Gadget, M.A.S.K.) and Haim Saban (Power Rangers, Macron 1) fits perfectly with the series, but the biggest selling points are the hair metal-oriented opening and ending themes. DVD Extras: C It's great that Shout! Factory has given this series a proper DVD release, after the cheap and disappointing Escape from the Garden of Evil single DVD by NCircle Entertainment. But while you have the first 33 episodes in one boxed set, there isn't much else included other than some screenplays and concept art. The Bottom Line Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is an underrated series that remains one of DIC Entertainment's best titles. Now if only Mattel reissued the toys... Links Shout!
