  1. I think it might be possible that the Vajra are (mostly) non-intelligent after all. However, they may be strongly empathic, meaning that they'd feel and react to the emotions of those they encounter. The more the inhabitants of Frontier hate the Vajra, the stronger the Vajra feed off that hate, and become more aggressive themselves. Rather than being evil/malicious, they're simply a reflection of our own worst tendencies, become physically manifest. That could be the true terror of the Vajra. (Of course, Grace would have needed to kick the cycle off.)

This might have something to do with the emotion index Grace measures on the fold transmissions from Ranka's singing, and why she's so eager to encourage hate for the Vajra.

In the end, the only way to stop the cycle is for the Frontier side to learn to let go of their hate, and become flower children or something.

I'm a bit loathe to accept this theory entirely, but I think some sort of empathic feedback mechanism may play a role in some of the Vajra's behavior. It may not entirely be some sort of rational defense response.

There's no rationality to it at all...

  2. You know... Grace's actions

    killed Michael

... That automatically makes her the worst of the worst in my book (yes, even worse than lame ass Kaifun). I hope

    Klan discovers the truth eventually

    ...

Like Klan will figure it out.

Or rather, live long enough to figure it out and/or exact bloody, hateful, murderous revenge.

Which frankly, would make me a very, very happy person.

I want Klan to kill everyone.

  3. I think Michel dies ...... wait what?

    Doh, he's dead

Unfortunately I called this right after I first started watching Macross Frontier. The MINUTE Klan and Michael hookup, one or both of them would die. They kissed and then I posted "poo THEY KISSED, MICHAEL IS GOING TO DIE!" and sure enough, he did.

I say Klan either dies next ep or successfully KILLS EVERYTHING. If she doesn't perish within 2 episodes, she ain't dying.

At this time I would also like to say Nanase is now safe and WILL NOT die. I figured she'd just get wounded.

    Sheryl does not die.

We may, however, see the deaths of some bridge bunnies.

  4. People really thought we weren't getting Pineapple salad this episode? Just another example of Mr. Kawamori's troll-fu.

Oh yes yes, ha ha! Pineapple cake! No one will die!

    PSYCHE!

    Damnit,

    I wanted my Max-N-Milia part II! >:(

But yeah this about settles it, Klan is going to absolutely lose it next ep and KILL EVERYTHING.

A zentraedi on a deliberate suicide mission is a very, very frightening thought.

  5. Yeah, I was thinking that no matter how stubborn Alto is, I find it hard to believe that a high-school boy would be that resistant to a hot girl's advances. Wait, a hot interstellar pop sensation's advances. Regardless of how the whole series will shake down, and what will happen to the triangle, it's pretty bizarre that homeboy hasn't chosen a girl yet.

One of the things that always struck me, from watching SDF, even when I was a kid and I was watching that other show that people here will yell at me for mentioning, was that Hikaru changes his mind. So often, shows present relationships as these epic YES OR NO things, instead of going for a sloppier, more nuanced approach. I respect SDF for being a little more realistic. I feel like, Alto has plenty of reasons for not getting involved with Ranka -- she seems young, she's his boss's little sister (big reason), there's a hot superstar interested in him. But he doesn't have many reasons for not getting involved with Sheryl -- she's bossy? It's a front, part of the superstar persona. She's pushy? Again. She's a flirt, and maybe he doesn't trust that she's not messing around with him? I dunno.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Frontier, but I feel like Alto's behavior is pretty unbelievable. It's very extreme. Either that or he's got such a fear of confrontation, that he won't make a decision one way or the other, because of what that will mean. He might play like he's this determined stoic pilot who only dreams of flying, but I suspect that he, much like Sheryl, is all about presenting a big front to the world.

While this thread probably isn't the place to discuss this,

Alto seems to have the classic japanese anime problem of FEAR OF GETTING INVOLVED WITH GIRLS

In anime, the guy always has to be really picky and choosy and be almost fearful of getting involved with these women.

I dunno, if I were in Alto's position I would've nailed Sheryl a long time ago.

While Ranka may eventually profess her love to Alto, I am pretty sure it's probably not mutual. I think his hesitation to get involved has more to do with being fearful of whether or not Sheryl is serious about him because he's really afraid of being betrayed... he's also got the 'running away' problem going on, in a manner VERY reminiscent of Shinji Ikari and frankly, it's kind of annoying. That kind of behavior is to be expected and tolerated from a sexually-unsure, sadsack 14-year-old boy, but not a cocky "I'm so badass" pilot with confidence like Alto...

I dunno, his odd behavior around women just doesn't fit.

Maybe it's because he's been one XD

  6. I just watched Mac Zero and Shin Kudo wasn't all that good; he was good, yes, instinctive, yes, but he never learned to 'feel' his opponents, nor did he ever get good enough to down an SV-51... I guess he figured it out before he folded to the center of the galaxy, but still.

Hikaru was a great pilot and all and maybe surpassed Focker but I'm going to have to say that Isamu Dyson may well top the list, pushing the YF-19 to its absolute limits.

There are other variables to consider though. All things equal, would Alto Saotome be as good as Hikaru Ichijo in a VF-1X?

We probably won't ever know that answer, but I am going to agree here that Maximillian Jenius is probably the single best (most talented) pilot in Macross history.

Frankly, I think Basara Nekki would be a terrible combat pilot, because much like Hikaru in his early days, I think he'd have trouble pulling the trigger when face to face with an enemy.

  7. Not accurate to the actual dance but i guess she's cute

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix-KBQ9Zjtg...feature=related

Whoa, the girl in that vid looks a lot like my girlfriend, except my girlfriend's thinner, has skinner legs and a much larger chest ^^; but her face looks very similar.... Maybe it's her cousin Harumi, cos she said Harumi had bigger thighs than her... and was into anime and such... and lived in a teeny place in Tokyo... and also took dance...
