  1. Just an FYI---feel free to send new pics to the mods for posting, but I personally only plan to put substantially new/interesting pics in the first post. There's no point in showing dozens of nigh-identical pics from different guys taken at the same angle at the same show with the same reflection in the glass...

I mean, is HLJ's pic: http://www.hlj.com/hlj_gallery2/v/c3hobby/DSC_5596.jpg.html Really showing something different than the one already uploaded here: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?act=...st&id=57579 (and ours is bigger, anyways)

That's the DX? The canopy isn't clear? please tell me that isn't so :(

  2. This new 1/60 VF-1S is worth buying even if it doesn't transform.

In fighter it looks amazing. The nosecone, which was always a common issue with the 1/55 and 1/48, is now the right size.

The tinted canopy is something I did not expect; whoever thought about it deserves recognition, it looks neat. The only problem was the ugly pilot but it is now fixed. This toy can compete with the Hasegawa 1/72 kit, that is how good it looks.

How did you make the cockpit roomier? :)

  3. thanks man, will look into that lens.

im also planning to get the cheap Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens for the good bokeh it creates

going back to topic....so the hikaru super 1a will also have a strike cannon?

Ah, yes, the venerable 50mm 1.8  don't plan, just get one :) you won't regret it :) It's relatively uber affordable and among the sharpest, if not the sharpest lens. I'd also recommend that you save up for Canon's new 18-200. It's not a professional lens performance-wise but that lens is absolutely indispensible, trust me.

I plan to upgrade my camera to the new Nikon D90, though, a move that'll have a big impact to my toy collecting :(

And, yes, the 1A will have the Strike but mine won't be displayed with such. I'll get mine probably next week :)

  4. if yamato made a perfect transformation 1/60 vb-6 monster would you buy one?

I'll save up for it, yes, and have it customized to look like the Koenig Monster in Macross Frontier :) from what I know, it's the first appearance of the Koenig in an anime series. Please correct me if i'm wrong about that.

  5. If you like fighter mode, the YF-21 fighter mode has a more anime accurate fighter mode than the YF-19. If you like battroid mode, I prefer the YF-19 battroid mode. It's not anime accurate, because it's sleeker, but I think it makes it look more badass. The YF-21 battroid mode is pretty cool, and the thing it has over the 19 is that it has a more solid battroid mode.

    19 or 21, they're both good. :)

I'm on the fence for the 1/60 VF-1 v2 until the VF-1A DYRL Max comes out. I'm also waiting to see how the shoulder-hinge situation turns out.

Looking at your avatar, it's sad to what happened to Michel :(

I agree, both the 19 and 21 are champions in my book :)

  6. but then we would have had the people complaining about the fact they didnt fix the nosecone on this like in the 1/48. The fact is the nosecone doesn't need to hang down... they really needed to just chop down the back of the fuselage on the one seaters. Honestly though sometimes I can't tell between this and the 1/48s until I start looking for the fugly priest collars and the double jointed elbows.

    priest collars FTW

  7. @ 1/1 Lowviz Lurker:

    Amen to that :)

I'm more of the TV fan than DYRL, but yeah DYRL fighters and gear are more interesting. Except for the pilot jumpsuits. DYRL jumpsuits are too flamboyant. I hope they come out with a Roy pilot with the TV scheme.

  8. Cmon it cant be that difficult to redesign and change some thing to make it more accurate.

Not difficult, but may not be cost-effective. As much as we all love the 2-seaters, they won't be as much a mainstream product as 1A, 1J, or 1S. The longer canopy would entail a (at the very least a slight) redesign of the chest area transformation to make it look good in battroid.

  9. I'm honestly no so hot on the vf-0a with the ghost/booster, I think all that ordinance and the ghost hanging off the plane makes it look clunky. Totally opposite opinion for the vf-1 with super parts, that plane imho looks just as good if not better with them on.

True, I think that was intentional :) the ghost booster was a makeshift booster in the story as there were no FPs done for the VF-0 since it's more of like a test bed for the VF-1. Consequently, the reactive armor for the 0 was the test bed for the GBP. If I get to buy a VF-0 (A, S, or A Shin), I won't buy the Ghost accessory for it immediately, or If I get all three, I'll only buy one for the 0A Shin (or to whomever used it in the series, I forgot who. All I'm definite is Roy used the Reactive Armor. Could someone shed light on this?)

  10. (eg I have my Yamato Red Qrau in 1/60 scale all ready to fight the v2 1/60 TV max 1J so I find it convenient that 1/60 toys coming out now will go well in a display with older 1/60 stuff)

Or wait for the 1S DYRL Max to be released as that's what the Red Q-Rau fought :)

After the Destroids, I hope they make the enemy mechas like the Regult, Glaug, TV Q-Rau, and Variable Glaug :) That'll complete the SDF TV and DYRL IMO :)

  11. Wife is gonna kill me, broke down and bought both with the fold booster set!!!!!!

haha yeah best compromise: can't decide one which one to get? Buy BOTH!!

  12. I don't get it. How extensive is the cockpit/fuselage retooling on the 1/60 then? Are you saying you would not need retooling for a 1/60 1D? It ended up looking the same as the other VF-1s! If it was totally different, I would understand how the 1/60 v2 was designed to accomodate both designs with minimal retools. Since it isn't, there's not much argument left for saying it's a whole retooling process which wouldn't have worked in 1/48.

Crux of the matter: WHY does changing the head, chestplate and adding an extra seat (and a couple of other minor changes) warrant a huge retool o the 1/48, but not on the 1/60? Those minimal changes were not what I expected when I heard that they were "designed to accommodate 2 seaters".

If it sounds like I'm ranting, I apologise. I only want to clear up this mystery.

It's my best guess on why Yamato chose not to remold the fuselage for the 1D. IMO, the current set-up is still a good compromise, considering that the only way to make a perfect 1D would be to make an all-new mold. Most likely, such a move wouldn't be as cost-effective as having a common mold that can be reused for all VF-1 versions. Also, I was talking about why there's no significant change for the 1/60 1D compared to those already released :) I have no say on why there's no 1D retool for the 1/48.

From what I see, the longer fuselage would most likely necessitate more design work to make the 1D's look in all modes balanced (which the ver 2 1/60's did, so I can easily forgive the compromise done to the 1D). So, all I'm saying is that projected ROI will dictate Yamato's decision regarding an accurate 1D and from the looks of it, when it comes to VF-1s, they may have found it inefficient to make a separate 1D mold for what is essentially a VF-1 variant.

Of course, this is all just guesswork on my part and I'm looking at it on the business side of things rather than on the design/engineering side. There's really no denying that the 1D is inaccurate, but as far as transformable toys go, none is and I'm guessing none will for a long time. One very big block to this is that companies would rather make a mold that they can use for a mass-market product, or which they can squeeze out with as much repaints and/or minimal retool as possible to keep costs down and maintain a certain level of profitability.

With regard to the inaccuracies of the upcoming 1D to the lineart, I don't find it as disappointing as it should and I still actually love what's been shown :)

  13. The VF-1D and the VT-1 have totally different canopy designs.

And I know the 1D's design is in no way realistic, I've been thinking that for years, which is why I was not bothered by the inaccuracy of the original 1/60 1D. However, they never made a 1/48 because they said it couldn't be made justice to, so when they said they would finally be possible in this new 1/60 line, I really had my hopes up to see just how they would magically recreate this design. So, yeah, I am just surprised to see that a miracle did not occur and they hardly even bothered. It still looks like a very nice toy and all, I just cannot see what was so impossible about doing this in 1/48 after all.

Nah, most likely more costly as they'll have to retool the mold. That's why Yamato designed the new 1/60 to accommodate 1-seater and 2-seater valks.

  14. I am another vote for VF-0A (shin with booster best). That is one of my very very favorite kawamori designs and one of my very favorite toys ever. I do not have the YF-21 though. I do not have the YF-19 either. I do like Macross Plus, it is great and the designs are beautiful but I am really more a macross Zero type of hippy nerd. For me SDFM, DYRL, Zero, and Frontier.

Which mecha design do you like better and which mode do you like best?

If you are a battroid geek like me then go VF-0A (shin with ghost). If you are a Fighter kinda dork and love Blue then go YF-21.

    That is my rude $0.02.

(Edit for making a bit more sense)

I go down the other path :) Zero is my least favorite of all. In order: SFDM, Frontier, DYRL, Plus, 7 (downer largely because of Basara), Zero. I haven't watched Macross II (yup, it's a sort of what-if series and not canon) but it seems kinda interesting.

  15. *Points to sig*

I've been saying that since the day Graham confirmed that it was a 1/60 V2 perfect transformation toy that was designed from the start to have two seat variants. ;)

    -Kyp

haha yup, true that  best part is, the ver 1 and 2s can coexist in my collection as they'll serve different purposes

  16. It is like a sentimental toy getting replaced with another, newer one, it just isnt the same. But seriously the new, yet to be released, VF-1D looks billions times better than the first. I just think that the Eilntseeker and Ostrich are so gorgeous in Fighter mode I wonder if I will even need to replace them with the new versions or not.

I'm sure they would. They did the 1D, and with the generally good reception this version 2's are getting, I don't see any reason why they won't. But frankly, though, if I could, I'd still get the version 1 of the VE and the VT. The version 1's will stay in either fighter or gerwalk mode (for dioramas), while the ver 2's will be displayed in all their battroid glory :) I'm betting that once the version 2's come about, secondary market prices for version 1's would significantly drop down in price :)

  17. For all those posting pictures, can you please make sure they are of either the DX 1/60 toys, the 1/100, or Robot Damashii? Its annoying going to this thread, expecting to see new pics, only to find pics of the 1/72 model kit.

    Amen to that.
