  1. Hoping for some help finding some model pictures and I was recommended to ask in the Dougram thread. Hopefully this is the right one. They're called Battle Armor Panther and Battle Armor Victor. They look like Dougram mecha only with tank turrets for heads. The Victor picture also has Crab Gunners in the background. The model kids are 1/76 scale and I think are made by AR? I hope someone can help me find the pictures again. Mine are lost somewhere and all I've got are some poor black & white laser prints of them. Thanks
  2. I believe they're pretty good. I didn't say anything about the writing. Except we never see the Destroids in those rolls. They're more walking turrets. Very rarely do we see them off the ship and when we do they die horribly, unless piloted by a hero. Not only that but it was always the Valkyrie that had to go out. Where were the Destroids on Macross Island when the war started? Where were they when the SDF-1 was boarded? It was Valkyries fighting house to house not Destroids. I never said it wasn't canon. I said I find it dubious considering the lack of articulation in the knee joint. I also don't see those speeds in the series. It's also hard to believe that the Tomahawk despite weighing more than twice that of a Valkyrie can move 20kph faster. Sure it has more solid feet but that just means it's not going to be as bogged down in terrain as the Valkyrie. By size do you mean smaller than the Valkyrie? As for defense canon shows Destroids dying and needing to be reinforced by Valkyries. Even though Valkyries had far less fire power than Destroids. I never said it wasn't official. I said I doubted it. If Destroids are so good, they should have remained in service instead of Battle Pods. Except the Zentradi can be reduced in size to operated Destroids and Valkyries. And while they may be low maintenance they're also have weak legs are unstable, and a burden to pilot. There's also no reason they couldn't be redisigned with a human sized cockpit. Indeed there are some that operate with a crew with no modifications. Which would make one think that Destroids were still in use, even if only limited. There is retired from frontline service and retired completely. Plus it's easier to upgrade something you possess than to have to build brand new. There's also the detachable weapons packs. Maybe they just detached weapons and added construction packs and used them as engineering units. Then if needed they just swap packs. They just didn't need them until later. Whatever the case, it doesn't change that the Valkyries are the hero Mecha. Not the Destoids. If the story wants Destroids to be hero mech and more effective than previously shown then they will be. The same goes for Pods, Police Mecha, and variable ground units.
  3. The Southern Cross mecha are actually pretty good. Equal to Macross Mecha? Maybe. Maybe not. They are designed differently. The Spartas is a fast reaction and fire support unit. It can operate in space and in "Battloid" Mode it can use it's arm mounted weapons. The Logan seems to be a light interceptor and the AJACs the main fighter and air support unit. Those are things not really covered in Macross. The Valkyrie ends up having to do it all. Personally, I find the Destroids running speed dubious do to their limited knee articulation. They kind of make for it with their ankle/foot structure but I still find it hard to believe that they can run as fast as a Valkyrie. If they could move at those speeds they really shouldn't have been retired as they're still better for ship and base defense. I'm even doubting that they were retired considering we see Battle Pods in MD. If they're still in service and being upgraded then surely the Destroids would be too. The upgraded Defender from MR? would seem to confirm that. The Police Valks in M7 didn't fare well because they weren't dedicated combat craft. I think they did take out a few enemy VFs but they had high losses. There were several VF-1s on M7's City Section but we only really see Milia's. Using the others would have taken attention away from her. Same with using non modified Destroids. The use of the Monster was comic relief and "proof" of the need for younger pilots. Could there be more variable vehicles in Macross? And could they be dedicated combat units? Absolutely. Why haven't see seen more? For the same reason we haven't seen more Destroids. They're not the stars of the show. I think we'll see more Destroids and variable vehicles when the plot calls for them. Not until then. Personally, I think it'd be great if Valkyries took the back seat for a while. They've gotten a bit silly.
  4. I think I've got those OCCs printed out but I'll have to dig for them. I'll see if I can find them for you.
  5. What's Bittorrent Sync and why do I need it to download?
  6. I think you might be combining two separate things into one. I think it's two separate events happening in the same year. In 2003 the F203 was formally adopted as the main UN Fighter. Also in 2003 development began on the VF-X-2 as a compeditor to the VF-1, which had been in development since 2002. I've seen the VFX-E303 Valkyrie in other books. I thought it was just pre-production art. Is it or is it actually a VF-X-???
  7. I'm glad some Macross sites are being kept alive. It seems like a lot of disappeared over the past couple years.
  8. sketchley That's a shame. He had a nice site. Thank you for saving his stuff and for the link. Yours site is pretty nice too and info's easy to find. Thanks. Roy I thought the MRG was dead
  9. Does anyone know what happened to the rpg site UN Spacy Database? http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/%C2'>
  10. You're very welcome and thanks. You just made my day. It is nice knowing there's other rational fans out there. Thanks All.
  11. Sounds very cool! Thanks! I hope I can get this book soon.
  12. Iknow this isn't completely macross related but could someone tell me what line are is in the new design works book for crusher joe?
  13. sigh No offense but topics like this really bug me. They just show how much misinformation is out there. Yes Zentraedi had technicians. No army or navy is without them. Who do you think shrunk the spies? A Technician. Who operates the sensors and communications equipment. Who sees that rutine maintenace is done. Technicians. Your typical Battle Pod Pilot is not going to be trained in how to do those things. They may make up the majority of the Zentraedi forces but they're not trained in every single possible thing. So why wasn't the command bubble replaced? Gee maybe it wasn't in stock? And the leaky pipes? Not on the priority list. Probably not in stock either. So why not make new ones? That's not there job. They put the parts in but they don't make them. That's what the factory satellites were for. Think about it. Have any of you tuned up your car or changed the oil? I have. And while I can change the spark plugs and replace the oil and filter, I don't know how to make a sparke plug or manfacture oil. I just go buy new ones. I can also change windows but I'm not going to try to make the window from scratch. The same goes for plumbing. I buy the parts I need. I don't make them myself. The same goes for the Zentraedi techs. Besides even if all the technician is trained to do is look at a computer and replace indicated parts. It still takes training to do that. It does not meen they need to know how to manufacure the parts. Just what they do, where they go, and how to install them. As for the different sexes knowing and working together, of course they did. Watch the series. The spies knew of Millia's reputation. And they were transported back to earth on a purple "female" ship crewed by men that was under whatshername's command. So yes they knew of each other and fought along side together. They just weren't on the same ships together. And they didn't have any reason to talk to each other other than to give and receive orders.
  14. Why stop at just the VTOLs? There's the variable ground patrol vehicle too.
  15. Are you guys really arguing about wether Vader is crippled or not? Come on! As seen in ESB Cybernetics are as good as the originals. In fact they may even be better. Lukes new hand looked and worked just the same as his original hand. It even takes a blaster bolt in ROTJ and keeps on working. So Vader having a cybernetic body is not going to be that big a problem. The only thing "Crippled" about him is that he has to wear an Environmental Body Armor when outside his special communications chamber. It certainly hasn't slowed him down any. He's still the terror of the galaxy. It was only until he had a long protracted fight with Luke and lost his hand that he started dragging. And he only died after taking a lot of lightning bolts from the emperer. So stop arguing about it. The difference between the new LS fights and the old LS fights is that all fights no days have to look like they came from a kung fu movie. Even 900 year old aliens fly around with the greatest of ease after hobbling in on a cane. It has nothing to do with cybernetics and everything to do with movie styles. As for the Emperer, he wanted no one to oppose him. If he couldn't have Luke, Luke would die. He didn't nessiccarily want Vader dead. He had other Jedi working for him (if you go by the novels) but if it ment Luke joining the DS then so be it. And Vader was loyal to the emperer up until the emperer betrayed him and Luke called for his daddy. "If you will not be turned then you must be destroyed." Sound familiar?
  16. Watching Episode 12 Millia climbs on, jumps in, and goes straight down. She does not move like she's putting her legs into a over sized pair of boots - her legs in the mecha's legs- so her legs either go into the backpack or she's sitting on something. Maybe when the next Design Works book comes out we'll know more. That is assuming ofcourse that it does come out.mumble mumble mumble cus cus cus
  17. I haven't read all of this thread so this may have been mentioned but then again maybe not. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. The Destroids and Battlemechs and other Robots hight is usually seen as a disadvantage against tanks. In a sense that's true however it also provides them with many advantages. Greater visability, greater firing range, they would be firing at the vulnerable tops of tanks not the heavily armored fronts, and you have the fear factor which has been mentioned. Mecha (Robots) also have manueverability in thier favor. They can dodge more easily in more ways than a tank. So yes tanks may see them coming but they're a lot more vunerable. Oh and the SWAG was to make the VF's armor comparable to the destroids when in battloid mode meening with out it the destroids had at least 3 times the armor strength of the VFs. If the destroids also had SWAG that would make thier armor 9 times stronger and VF's would be ruled our for ground combat. So the destroids dont have SWAG they didnt need it. And trial producction of destroids started in 2003 but mass production wasnt started until 2006 and then the MBR-04 Mk I rolled out in 2007. Since the Cheyenne is a production model it had to come after the MBR-04 Mk I. But there were still a few trial production models and prototypes about. And since SW-1 was 2 years away it's possible that some destroids convention unit action was seen even if only in training excersises so just have fun playing with your models.
  18. When Hikaru crashed into the buildings he wasn't in GERWALK mode. He was on his way to battloid so the VF's energy armor thing was probably active. The SWAG is supposed to tripple the VF-0's armor in battloid mode. Since the whole point was to make the VF's ground capabilities comperable to the Destroids the Destroids must have armor 3at least 3 times stronger than the VF's armor. I would think that the Defender and Phalanx would have weaker armor as they're more support unit's and not frontline but that's just a guess on my part. And the Cheyenne must sacrifice armor for manueverability. It has wheels for high speed movement as well as limited flight capability. The other destroids don't have that. The Defender's 78mm cannons have a rate of fire of 500 rpm not 2000. It is only by having 4 cannons can the rate of 2000 rpm be achieved. The velocity is still 3300 m/sec. The GU-11 fires at 1200 rpm. The Gun pod has a higher rate of fire but the Defender has more guns. The standard Defender also has twice the ammo and presumably much greater range than the GU-11. So if a Valk tries to strafe with a Defender around it's likely going to get shot down.
  19. Can the F-22 carry a Phoenix Missle? Older fighters with modern avionics would be equal to, nearly equal too, or better than many modern fighters in use now. Compare the F-4 and the F-18. The F-4 has almost three times the range and is faster and has nearly the same weapons payload as the F-18. The only thing the F-18 has going for it is modern avionics. Put the same avionics and cockpit technology into the F-4 and the F-4 would kick the F-18's ass. And aerodynamics haven't changed. There are many older fighters with better aerodynamics than modern ones. The only reason they're not used is because they're old. Look at the F-15. It was designed in the 60's and flew in the 70's. That makes it a 40 year old design and it's aerodynamics and manueverability are still equal to modern fighters. What isn't is the Avionics which is why new models have been produced and older models upgraded. Those upgrades are what keep the F-15 ahead of other fighters. IF you need further proof that just because it's old doesn'tmeen it's obsolete look to the B-52. So how does all of this relate to the SV-51 and the Vf-19? It meens that a SV-51 properly upgraded and with a very skilled pilot could possibly go up against the VF-19 and survive.
  20. It's not so much the age of the fighter but the age of the avionics. Many 60s/70s era fighters are being upgraded with new avionics and they're just as capable of shooting down a modern fighter as any built in the 90s. In fact some fighters with upgraded avionics are probably superior than modern fighters. The US just has the opinion that newer is better but that always isn't the case. A good pilot is also better than a rookie or a poorly trained pilot. As to the SV-51 with VF-19 engines,,,maybe but I think it would need signifigant upgrades first. Who could be who in a fight? That would probably either be the better pilot or the luckier pilot.
  21. Lousy copy function. That was the second time I'd had to copy that too and it still went in wrong. ARRRRRRRRR It's fixed now. I hope. Enjoy
  22. The Longbow and the XBW-9J Crossbow are different mecha. both in Battletech and in Battledroids. And the Crossbow is not the Phalanx. It is the LGB-OW Longbow that is the Phalanx. The Longbow did go on to be in Battletech but the Crossbow did not however its name like several other battledroid names did live on in other battletech designs. Go here for some pics and alittle info. http://www.heavygauss.com/Droidsmain.html Also in Battletech are the Inner Sphere LGB-7Q Longbow (3058) and the LGB-12C Longbow (Phoenix Project) and the Clan Crossbow (3058). The two Longbow varients are different enough that they're recognized as Longbows but they wouldn't be mistaken for the original. Like the Macross and Macross II PHalanxes. The Battletech Crossbow is said to resemble the old Star League Longbow (Phalanx) but is more rounder. It is a new design however but if it was "desended" from anything it would be the Battldroids Crossbow. Also nothing I have says the Phalanx was phased out in favor of the Crossbow. And as the LGB-OW Longbow/Phalanx was still in production as of 3058 coupled with the fact that the Crossbow is a Clan design that would be a very hard thing to do. (I have the 3rd edition of the 3025 Tech Readout and the Longbow isn't in there. It might be in an earlier edition though. If someone has it and can put up a scan that would be very cool. The only game info I have is from Sorenson's Sabers and those are modified. Game stats for the battledroid mecha would also be cool I havent had any luck finding them.)
  23. Valks cannot go from Fighter to GERWALK mode while on the ground. The pictured prove it. It was not on the ground but hovering. The Valk had to lift off first before transforming.
