  1. Agreed. Like I said, what a reboot of SDFM would need is only some attention to the details. I'd love to see updated visuals. I'd love to see the characters dressing in 2008-2009 fashion. I'd love to see them use gadgets that were contemporary in 2008-2009. I'd love to see greater attention to military procedures and dialogues (esp. in radio chatter) and much better dogfights (please, no more stock footage). But I'd stick to the core plot; even the love triangle is just fine as it is - no need to turn it into Dawson's Creek with a mecha-filled battle as a wallpaper.
  2. Because (a) the mecha happen to be at the very heart of its plot, (b) since we have basically no idea what aliens might really look like, even the hypothesis of gigantic aliens could sound plausible. Furthermore, it's the details that make a story all the more realistic. For instance, if you go and read any of Ian Fleming's James Bond books, the author ensures the reader's suspension of disbelief by giving extremely detailed (and realistic) descriptions of mundane stuff the reader is familiar with, such as a game of poker or a pack of cigarettes. Not really - it's about making unrealistic entertainment more convincing by paying closer attention to those details we are familiar with.
  3. I was introduced to Macross in 2007 by a conscript in our unit who was assigned for duty at the headquarters; he was quite knowledgeable about Macross and gave me his Animeigo box set and let me copy whatever Macross-related material he had on his hard disks.
  4. In my eyes, the pilots in Plus look more like privateers than real officers. I think I'll rank the notable officers of the Macross universe according to their professionalism (subjectively, based on my own experience from my work): Bruno J. Global Max Jenius (never gave anyone a reason to chew him out, and he's also THE ace in Macross) Ozma Lee Roy Focker (save for the fiasco concerning the VF-1D with the callsign VT-102 of SDF Macross and his going out to fly while drunk in DYRL, he's always acted like a true squadron leader) Hikaru Ichijyo (after he matured, he became a "keep civilians and troops safe" officer; and in battle he was also quite effective) Claudia LaSalle Misa Hayase (lets her personal grudges, memories, sorrows etc get way too much in the way of doing what she has to do) Milia Fallyna-Jenius (while still in the Zentradi forces, she seemed to be more of an assassin, relishing in the kill, rather than an officer; at first, there was little to tell her apart from Quamzin Kravshera) Quamzin Kravshera (the guy is a complete loose cannon and a total nutjob) The Bridge Bunnies Hayao Kakizaki (the guy was completely useless as a pilot - and no real pilot would ever underestimate a damage to his plane so obvious that his commander could plainly see it even before doing a BDC) Guld Goa Bowman & Isamu Alva Dyson
  5. Official? I think I'll stick with what Keith says, since he knows quite a bit more than me (or most people here) on what's canon and what's not.
  6. If a remake is to be done for the original Macross series, it'll need the following things: A "hang the cost" attitude towards animation A re-recording of the songs with current arrangements Adaptation of everyday "commodity" technology to the standards we knew in 2009-2010 A few real air force technicians, pilots and command & control officers to provide input on procedures and what real combat radio chatter consists of - also, why was Hikaru so surprised when he was appointed two wingmen? Didn't he receive training as a formation leader beforehand? Also, make some of the military personnel act with greater (and more convincing) professionalism; I know I'd chew Misa's head off for her Mars Base suicidal tendencies, as well as for her idea to go and fly in the Cat's Eye...
  7. The existence of a black hole in the center of our galaxy was pretty much confirmed afterwards. But we knew from other galaxies that their centers have a black hole. So, don't you think it would make sense to assume that approaching that part of a galaxy would be a no-no?
  8. Thanks for pointing this out. I googled it and found something about the last transmission from the Megaroad fleet being something about Major Hayase talking about a black hole from which music was coming and that they were going in...? This is absolutely implausible. This is Misa Hayase (who is generally considered a responsible officer, although I've seen some of her actions that were questionable -at best) we're talking about, not Gameel Al-Batouti.
  9. What bugs me about the post-Flashback story of Hikaru, Minmay and Misa is the claim that they went into a black hole located in the center of the Milky Way. Seriously now, anyone who knows anything about astronomy knows that the region near the center of any galaxy is an unsurvivable inferno where all sorts of celestial bodies collide with extreme frequency and extreme force. Sending a colonization fleet there would be a waste of precious resources, if we were to speak from a logistical perspective. If we were to speak from a humanitarian perspective, it would be like sending the crews and the colonists to certain death. As for what black holes do, read a few articles on them and you'll see how plausible for a government or a military or a space agency like the UN Spacy such a decision would be. If they wanted to explore these areas, they could have had the Megaroad launch space probes equipped with fold drives. Just my $0.02.
  10. Dubstep? No thanks. It sounds like a beatboxer with Tourette's who's singing and recording in a metal scrap-filled mixing drum of a concrete mixer truck that's been parked next to a flatulent dinosaur.
  11. I was wondering... How exactly can a Zentran pilot get out of the Regult's cockpit? It looks like these guys must have developed serious contortionist skills, which of course would be hindered by their rather rigid uniforms.
