Yeah, they both have their place. It's simply a question of price vs. quality. I love my SOC evangelions, but I had to pay 4 or 5 times as much as I did for the plastic kaiyodo ones...

RIP.. I thought he was a great actor with a talent for comedy. Anyone remember that series 'Hooperman' where he played a detective? I loved him in that.
-
I like Sithlords idea - you get a small support vehilce and a couple of scale figures with each mech, so you have to buy all the destroids to create a neat diorama.
My opinion on the 'gimmicks': I think withe the destroids all you can really have is opening missile bays and cockpits. I would much rather have the attention go towards articulation and detailing. I'd love to see some weathering effects like oil leaks from the joints etc.
Lastly, I hope Yamato doesn't make them too big or to diecast, as I would hope that they have a wider spectrum of priced toys. At the moment they have the 1/60 (medium price) and the 1/48s (high priced) and the upcoming moster (bend over).
I am hoping the destroids will be about 4000 yen to give us macross fans a financial break after shelling out several hundred dollars for their 1/48s.

I wonder.. is everyone getting the yellow 00? I'm not as the blue is the same sculpt and looks cooler, and at $55+ bucks a pop it makes me think twice.

here's a few from my 'favourites' list:
http://users.ev1.net/~superjaw/ - superjaw has some nice customs and good tips for painting. This is how I got into it, and found macrossworld about 2 or 3 years ago.

Jung's Valkyrie Hangar has a lot of sweet custom pics: http://www.geocities.com/hunt4r/macross/jetfire.htm
Kidkorrupt's site is also good: http://www.geocities.com/valkcreations/index2.htm
And for lots of other sci-fi stuff and GREAT tips, go to starship modeler:
http://www.starshipmodeler.com/
Oh, and also try the old MW forums and try searching in the 'toys & models' for custom valk threads - there are lots of them!

oh man! I never much liked the Optimus prime toy, even as a kid! But that is a work of art. hlj has it listed for $84, which I can stomach.
-
Anyone know if it will be made with the original colour scheme? The 19 is the only yamato toy I don't have as I missed out when it was released..
I have the 19a but I always wanted the 'ol white and red one. -
I love the jacket! Personally I would make the shoulder patch a fair bit smaller to make it look like an airforce insignia patch.
-
Nah It was way to serious to be popular in japan, if they made the dances to activate the kugai involve a guitar and funky and bad punk rock music things may have gone better

ha! It would be a bastard love child of gasaraki and Macross 7! blurgh..

-
That mode would make his arms rather floppy.. and not much headroom either!

Hey, sebastian - why is the beast (your son) on the list? I thought your backpack (wife) would be looking after him? After all, you will need both hands to push away the rest of us when we all see something we all want and there is only one of them on the shelf!

-
I have all all 3 and they are great. Thanks go to Rob (Monkey Nugget) who managed to find me 2 of the 3 kits for a great price!
Pity bandai never released a MG kit of the mechs or the kugai..

-
nahh.. make mine Mac Plus - I love the streamlined design of the 11b and the 19. Although to match the size of the macross 1:48's they would be roughly 1:55 scale? (at a guess?)

Just thought of something!
I will bring my digital SONY camcorder...I will record most of our tour/trip around day and night!
I will make it into a VCD thing....A guide to Macross/Anime shopping in HK! Starring...(you guys would know who?!)
WE WILL BE FAMOUS! (Yeah, right!)
Comments?
Paulo
haha, I did a Film & TV degree and I work in television so I can give you a few tips!
Just stay away from the zoom and you'll be fine!
But I hate being on camera - that's why I went for the behind the scenes work. -
just wodnering if any girls are goign with you on this shopathon since im kinda new tot he forums i odnt no everybody that well
im nto going just wanna c if i can chew up some nice desgins for your ts for male abd females or make it a unisex kidna t shirt
Well, it's all males so far. Sebastian said he'd bring his backpack (wife) and my wife is going too, so they will probably look at us 20/30-something guys and go "LOSERS!" and go and do tourist things together..

Or, if the more salacious members of our shopathon group visit a girly bar, we may end up with a few hangers-on!
Hummmmm talk for yourself Gup... Im going with the guys to the gilie bar!I am having dirty ideas... all because of J A Dare.
Sebastian: you'd better hope your wife doesn't come along, unless she likes girlie bars too!

So basically thye're cheap and if I want to use it for a little practice modification, it's good for that
yep. get em if they're cheap. I noticed hlj.com is having a sale on the super hikaru.
What I DO like about them is they look cool on a shelf if you have a few other scale toys - sort of like a school photo with the shortest guys in front. I have a shelf with my banprestos, a 1:72 hase battroid, 1:60's and 1:55's. oh, and 3 of those mini destroids the exo squad toy line rereleased.
My secret shame is I paid WAY too much money for the roy, max and hikaru when they first came out, and everyone was saying how limited the Max one was so I shelled out money thinking how cool they'd be... <_<

lol, that's so cool - our own commemorative fashion wear!

Guess, I'm gonna have to start planning where to take you guys.
The good news is that most shops are open until 9pm or 10pm at night, 7 days a week. The bad thing is that most of the hobby/toy shops don't open until at least 1pm. Some of the smaller shops only open in the evenings from 6pm onwards. This means that for those of you suffering from jetlag, we won't have to start too early in the morning!
We will not be able to visit every major toy and hobby shop in one day. It will take at least two days. Here's what I'm thinking.
Thanks for the great itinerary! What a shopathon! I see you included a few bootleg shops - I'd love to take home a bootleg jumbo grade 'GUNDAN' toy - not worth the postage but if I could bring it back with me that would be excellent.
And do you guys want to do any regular tourist type stuff? We could do tourist stuff before 1pm while we wait for the toy shops to open. B)
Yamato's office will probably be off-limits. The general manager would probably never speak to me again if I came a knockin' with a bunch of rabid Macross fans in tow.not just that: we'd be a bunch of rabid DRUNK macross fans high on a berzerk toy shopping frenzy!

How about a little more info on why January's a good month to hit Hong Kong? I might have to give this some serious though.
I hate to say it but this crazy idea started from me saying to sebastian "wanna go shopping in HK in January as that's when I get my work holidays!"
And it's mutuated into this!

Hmm, we may have to split into 2 groups: the 'singles' group and the 'married' group... we can keep shopping while the rest of you go off to a girlie bar!
-
Yep - all my banprestos have blue tac to stiffen the joints. I like them personally, but I try to avoid touching them as they are as solid as a house of cards! one touch and they fall apart.
-
when I had more room, my biggest toy was a star wars AT-AT. And that made a great coffee table! Stupid thing would always have coffee rings on its back.

-
1/72 = 3 pcs
1/60 = 11 pcs
1/48 = 4 pcs
-
For anyone who has the metallic versions, is the paint job better than the normal ones? - ie, crisper lines and less over/under spray?
-
That's true. Only LOTR has lived up to the trilogy hype. Star wars = disappointing. Matrix reloaded = didn't bother seeing it.
Just as OT as John Ritter

RIP Johnny too..
It's not a shock as he was sick for a while - I thought that videoclip of a Nine Inch Nails cover he did was both shocking and courageous.
