is that the one that is made out of diecast? That looks like it's made out of vinyl. Is it a bootleg? I've seen pics of a really small die cast ride armor that looks pretty cool.
  2. They look great! That's one of those things I keep meaning to do but never get around to..

Yep - the 2 in the front are the toys I was talking about.. see how big their fists are? The blue one is the one I have. The valk in the back is actually 1:72 - it's the Robotech superposable. It's a bit smaller than the Yamato 1:60's. As it doesn't have fast packs, it's the Version 1 - so its hips are fixed in this crappy wide stance pose. The other toy is the old Matchbox invid scout. Overall, those toys are pretty average. Don't spend too much on em! Buy a yammie instead!

I don't think there was ever a 1/65 macross toy. There is a 1/72 gerwalk toy made by Imai (I think that's who made them). It was one of a 15th anniversary action figure line. They are famous for their huge fists! I have a max super gerwalk - it's not bad but it's not great either. I found a few on ebay - bad pic though. I wouldn't pay too much for them if I were you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=36568 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=36568
  5. Mine came today! They are so much better than I thought they'd be - and I thought they'd be pretty good!! The stike cannon is a pure work of art. When the stands I ordered from Sithlord arrive it will be the ultimate 1/48 display!

well they both look to be in great condition - I reckon you could get a bargain on the red one as it's a pretty bad picture. The blue one is boxed so that will go up. I've seen boxed 1/55's go up to the $50's. Try $20-25 for the red and $35 - 40 for the blue. I personally don't care too much for mint in box toys as it's a lot of extra money and I display them on a shelf anyway.

Just had a look - those 1/72 ones are the ones I really hate! As kanata said on the first page, they are the ones that were designed to attach to the Beta/Tread toy that was never prodced (except for a handful). They have the worst paint jobs of any toy ever! I have been meaning to completely repaint mine but then I think "why bother?" I don't have the 1/55 3-change one but I have all the others.

oops - sorry I forgot to answer that one. It varied - the green one had a snapped head antenna (most of the ones not in their box will as its long and really thin. I remade one using epoxy putty but if I so much as sneeze on it it will break! ) and came without the box or gun so it was a lot cheaper. My blue one came boxed and I paid about US$35-40. I think I got my green one for about $15 - 20. If I can borrow the work digital camera I'll take some pics tonight!

the diecast 1/55's are nice - the legs and body are diecast - surprisingly heavy for their size. When I was hunting for these toys I would search ebay by typing in 'gakken' - as you'd get the auctions where the person didn't know what the toy was but read the manufacturing stamp on the toy which would say "GAKKEN made in Japan" or "made in Taiwan" or wherever. I believe matchbox re-released the big alpha/legioss 1/35 toys & 1/55 diecast toys and the big cyclone/ride armor toy. You can tell the diecast ones as they have a grey gun, not a black one and the can't transform into fighter mode. They are 'skinnier' than their 1/35 brothers as they don't have to transform all the way. Look for paint chips before purchasing, as old diecast parts and paint jobs don't get along too well. Finished auctions: 1/35: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=19198 1/55 diecast: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=17017 here are some current ebay auctions for reference: 1/55 diecast: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=36568 1/55 diecast (badly transformed!) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1&category=4696 1/55 plastic toy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=36568 - there are a couple of different plastic toys but they not the best looking. big 1/35 toy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=16467 Hope I answered your Q!

I've got all 3 1/55 diecast legioss toys and the one in the pic certainly ain't that one! I've actually got the legioss toy in the pic, and the small ride armor toys - and my advice is stay away from them, they are terrible. The only good gakken toys are the 1/35 and 1/55 diecast legioss and the large ride armor.

That's one of the small plastic transformable alphas by gakken (I think). The scale of that one would be 1:60 or 1:72? I don't like it much personally as it looks pretty sad in fighter mode. The battroid looks to me like a 1/100 scale, but I don't know too much about the old 1:100 scale toys.
  12. I guess I have ebay and the internet to thank for my money sucking toy habit. Living in australia isn't exactly a prime position to grab lots of cool toys. So when I first discovered ebay back around 1998-9 my imagination went crazy! It was a pretty amazing realization that no matter what I could think of, I could buy it on ebay. I think most of our stories are quite similar - and I notice that a lot of MW'ers are in their late 20's/early 30's - we're the ones who watched the cartoons when we were kids and now we have the disposable income to afford the good stuff.
  13. haha! I love your frankenstein creations!! Kanata, you remind me of the evil little boy in the first Toy Story movie.
  14. RIP Johnny too.. It's not a shock as he was sick for a while - I thought that videoclip of a Nine Inch Nails cover he did was both shocking and courageous.
  15. Yeah, they both have their place. It's simply a question of price vs. quality. I love my SOC evangelions, but I had to pay 4 or 5 times as much as I did for the plastic kaiyodo ones...
  16. RIP.. I thought he was a great actor with a talent for comedy. Anyone remember that series 'Hooperman' where he played a detective? I loved him in that.
  17. I like Sithlords idea - you get a small support vehilce and a couple of scale figures with each mech, so you have to buy all the destroids to create a neat diorama. My opinion on the 'gimmicks': I think withe the destroids all you can really have is opening missile bays and cockpits. I would much rather have the attention go towards articulation and detailing. I'd love to see some weathering effects like oil leaks from the joints etc. Lastly, I hope Yamato doesn't make them too big or to diecast, as I would hope that they have a wider spectrum of priced toys. At the moment they have the 1/60 (medium price) and the 1/48s (high priced) and the upcoming moster (bend over). I am hoping the destroids will be about 4000 yen to give us macross fans a financial break after shelling out several hundred dollars for their 1/48s.
  18. I wonder.. is everyone getting the yellow 00? I'm not as the blue is the same sculpt and looks cooler, and at $55+ bucks a pop it makes me think twice.

    Customized Valks

here's a few from my 'favourites' list: http://users.ev1.net/~superjaw/ - superjaw has some nice customs and good tips for painting. This is how I got into it, and found macrossworld about 2 or 3 years ago. Jung's Valkyrie Hangar has a lot of sweet custom pics: http://www.geocities.com/hunt4r/macross/jetfire.htm Kidkorrupt's site is also good: http://www.geocities.com/valkcreations/index2.htm And for lots of other sci-fi stuff and GREAT tips, go to starship modeler: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/ Oh, and also try the old MW forums and try searching in the 'toys & models' for custom valk threads - there are lots of them! http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/mwf/ikonboard.cgi
  20. oh man! I never much liked the Optimus prime toy, even as a kid! But that is a work of art. hlj has it listed for $84, which I can stomach.
  21. Anyone know if it will be made with the original colour scheme? The 19 is the only yamato toy I don't have as I missed out when it was released.. I have the 19a but I always wanted the 'ol white and red one.
  22. I love the jacket! Personally I would make the shoulder patch a fair bit smaller to make it look like an airforce insignia patch.
  23. ha! It would be a bastard love child of gasaraki and Macross 7! blurgh..
  24. That mode would make his arms rather floppy.. and not much headroom either!
  25. Hey, sebastian - why is the beast (your son) on the list? I thought your backpack (wife) would be looking after him? After all, you will need both hands to push away the rest of us when we all see something we all want and there is only one of them on the shelf!
