  1. Hey guppy.

An Advice. PLEASE buy a Mr METAL PRIMER (Gunze Sangyo) for the diecast parts of the toy.

Yep - I've got metal primer! :) What I find works best is to really rough up the surface of the diecast parts with coarse sandpaper so the paint sticks to the surface better.

You've done a couple of yammie customs - what parts do you find wear from transformation? Ie, what parts should I give an extra coat of clearcoat to?

  2. Tnx, Gup, BTW how long was the soak?

I just left it overnight. With the legs though, as they put SO much paint on, it takes a few goes to get it all off.

Scand: You can get it from any hardware store, and probably most supermarkets. For the die cast parts I used a coarse sandpaper and for the plastic a medium/mild was plenty.

Stealthlurker - I was thinking of putting it back together naked for a laugh! At the moment it's a big pile of parts. :)

NB - it's a good idea to use rubber gloves as my hands are all dried out and wrinkly today.

  3. I got my dirt-cheap yammie the other day from hlj for customising. Around here most of us dis-assemble our valk and soak it in pine-sol (floor cleaner) overnight to loosen the paint so it's easy to remove with sandpaper. I've also heard people using engine oil :o and other stuff.

Try liquid sugar soap! It's a concentrated liquid diluted with water used to clean tough dirt and grime and remove paint from walls. I diluted some in pine-sol and the paint came off like butter!

Let me tell you this was a great discovery as yamato aren't afraid of slapping the paint on thick! :p

.. if this is common knowledge, please delete and ignore me!

  4. YEah, I like it more. And if you have those superposables, those heads really come in handy there. I used the 1a head to replace the crappy one on the cannon fodder posable. Pity the leg fell off. damn rubber toys! <_

  5. My order shipped in 2 days!! they gave me EMS shipping for the price of SAL. Cool!

I also bought the 1/72 vf19 decal set - which is the perfect scale for 1/60 vf-1 toys!

  6. Another option is to get the 1/72 hasegawa battroid kit. You get a 1a, 1J and 1S head with it. Here's a pic of my 1/60 with the hase head on it. It looks a tiny bit small but I think it looks cool. And the head shape is much better than the sqaushed look of the 1/60 1s head.

  7. As far as dis-assembling an MPC goes, it's pretty much the same as a 1/55. The electronics don't pose much of a problem - I just made sure they were completely covered with masking tape before painting.

I'm about to start my first 1/60 custom too! :) I remember there was a site that had a good walk thru to taking one apart. Anyone know the link?

  8. cool! I am VERY late to this party but I am so happy!!! I've never owned a GBP set as I can't justify spending that much money, but now I'll have my moment in the sun. :)

the chunky monkey fists look like somthing off an Imai toy. :D

  9. I certainly won't list all my tastes as it's probably been listed already (kanata's list took the cake). But I'm 27 now and music has been a big part of my life since I was 13 - I would have between 4 and 500 cd's collected over the last 14 years. But my favourites would be (or what I've been listening to a lot this year):

rock - Janes Addiction, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Queens of the stone age, Gomez

    classical - rachmaninov, chopin, beethoven

retro - blondie, devo, new order

rap - public enemy, run dmc,

jazz - miles davis, dave brubeck and the seatbelts music from cowboy bebop

dance - plaid, kid loco, death in vegas, thievery corp, lemon jelly, boards of canada, underworld

good soundtracks I've heard recently: 28 days later, requiem for a dream, Donnie Darko

  10. Lovely work. Camo paint jobs IMHO are the most difficult to do. I did my hasegawa basttroid kit in a 3 colour camo and I was so OVER it by the end. There was a mountain of masking tape a foot high by the time I finished.

  11. Thanks for the info Draykov!

Taka - put me down for one of those option decal sets! They look great. Don't worry - I can wait. I have to pay off my credit card before I buy anything else. :D

Hmm, got a (silly) question. As the 1/48 nose is removable, for the sharkmouth, would you make the decal in 2 parts or would we be better off applying it then carefully slicing down the join with an exacto knife?

  12. They're basing a lot of the movie off Ennis' 12 issue maxi-series. So hopefully we'll see him feed some baddies to a couple of Polar Bears! :D

I have to say, as a punisher fan since I was 13 (I began reading the Punisher at #6) I don't mind that they have 'modernised' him. He would just be too old. It's OK for us comic fans who have a long history and knowledge of the punisher, but to translate him to film and have his begininning you'd have to either update him to a recent conflict or set the film in the late '70's.. hmm, that's not such a bad idea! ;)

And I like the choice of Jane as the punisher - I'm interested to see more of the psyche of a broken man at work than just a beefcake hell bent on revenge. That's why the first punisher movie didn't work. There wasn't enough empathy with the character. (plus dolph can't act his way out of a paper bag)

  13. beautiful! I've been thinking of doing something like this to my low-viz. Can we make requests?:D

I really wanted a decal of the pointy-teeth mouth that the A-10 tankbusters have to put on the nose of my 1/48. And those red roses insignias would look great on the wings.

  14. Love your custom S!

Put some decals on it you lazy bastard. I wonder what that toy would be worth now?

I agree with an earlier comment - it reminds me of Armored Core a bit. Which is a good thing! ;) And I like it a lot better than the original paint job. Lately I've interested more in 'realistic' paint schemes - military colour shades rather than bright red with gold trim.
