Updated the .ass with various little fixes. No time to v2 the actual release, though. I also don't feel like fixing five (well, four really) different .ass files for it.

sure there are some animation problems but I find the overall quality to be very good and I think it compares pretty favorably compared to other current series such as gundam 00
It looks brilliant in motion but just make sure you don't ever hit pause. The TV airing of this show isn't very screencappable because of its SD nature. Hopefully the BDs will feature significantly greater detail so I don't have to gag every time I hit pause during one of the awesome looking fight scenes.

After seeing the 4th episode, I have to say this is a must-see. Still has some gripes against the character designs and some characterization (excess of bishonen/gay stuff).
On the subs department, with some slips here and there, I think they mostly help grasp the general idea of each episode. What I would really ask for, is for at least one group keep releasing HD formats (at least 720p) using H264 codec for video and MP4 extension. Me and my PS3 would be happy campers. We're already delighted with Q-R raws (1080p!)

The transport stream raws all captured off Japanese TV are actually 1440x1080i; Japanese networks do not broadcast in 1080p. Anime itself is usually animated at SD or 720p, so there is no real point in releasing at 1080 since there is no noticeable increase in quality. Macross Frontier's TV airing is definitely SD upscaled but it still looks good (in motion) at 720p so I leave it at that size.

Kuran's rank isn't Lieutenant. It's Captain. They clearly call her "Taii" which is Captain or Commander.
Yes, you'd be correct if this was an army, except space forces are commonly treated as navies.
Zoku is used for a "race" of people as well as a tribe. The correct translation is dependent on the context it's being used. The kanji itself is used to describe a group of like beings or basically, a family. Kazoku uses the same kanji.Forwarding this to Mandoric to see what he has to say.

Yeh....Zentraei Tribe.

巨人族 ゼントラーディ
I'm not the TL, but even I can figure out that it literally says:
Giant Tribe/Clan/Band Zentradi

Really? Cuz I find the translation is kinda... rough.
Feel free to point out where the translation or editing may be rough. If there is an error somewhere we'll go check the CCs and correct it for v2 if we get around to doing it.

Great Episode, from what I could tell. Too bad Shinsen Subs aren't doing this series, so I can't find an english sub which works..
What is everyone using to play these .MKV and .ASS files? I tried WindowsMedia - Didn't work, WinAmp - nope, VCL - didn't work either, Quicktime/RealPlayer - nope.
Download and install CCCP and use either one of the players that comes with the package (Media Player Classic preferred) and you will be able to watch anything the fansubbing community throws at you, as long as you don't play around with the options without understanding what they do.

You can load an .ass file by just drag and dropping it onto MPC while the video is playing. Changing the names is only required if you want them to auto-load when you play the video.

*cough* First post */cough*
I'd still take AiA-IZ's or a later sub.
Starting episode 04 we're using transport stream raws and accompanying CCs, so if you were turned off by our earlier releases feel free to check them out again.

Those are comments (that you wouldn't see in a proper media player) that I put in there to entertain myself (and other staff/people who want to use the .ass) when I'm timing. Except the Howard Mason comment was supposed to be deleted with the other VLC-breaking ones but I accidentally left that one in along with another one I think. Long day.
I'd also like to see these phrases that people find "very dodgy" because I'd like to know whether we've either fallen prey to terrible Japanese phrasing (this happens all the time in this show), our English grammar is breaking down or we're writing at too high a level for the average watcher to understand.
