  1. Never seen any Yamato

You should man, really... IS A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I recommend you watch the original Yamato and the original Gundam movies afterwards. The original SDF Macross took a lot from them. Kawamori was a Yamato/Gundam fan and got inspired by those shows to create Macross...

BTW... I'm telling you people... the next Macross TV series should be an animated MACROSS THE FIRST...

Don't be afraid of remakes... Astroboy, Cyborg 009 and many other series have been remade several times over the years. That's what made those franchises last, the remakes.

What if the original series is remade but is expanded into several seasons with new related stories? What if some characters from Zero were added (engineer Nakajima, Edgar Lasalle, Mao Nome, etc)? What about episodes describing what happened during the 2 years interval after episode 27? More focus on destroid pilots? Macross Space War I timeline is so epic there is plenty of room for stories set in that era...

New alternate and expanded stories and new animation can make them better.

    Things change... Embrace change... -_-

  2. IMO it doesn’t look like a more high tech looking version of the VF-25, it looks like a melting VF-25 -_-

Thank you. I couldn't quite name what I disliked about it but now I see it. It looks like you took a VF100 armored VF-25 toy and stuck it in a microwave. :p

"Melting"? LOL... Guys... I think I can figure out now your opinion of Zentradi designs... B))

Btw... Here, have some Wilder... post-7862-0-42103000-1320461960_thumb.jpg

  3. No, I just don't like what they did with the VF-25 at all and I think her face looks strange.

I gotta agree, the designs are terrible. Made Sheryl look like a dude with a terrible version of Nora's helmet, and the armor is "w-e-a-k."

I strongly disagree. I liked the artist maximalism and his approach to portrait a more high tech looking version of the Messiah, as well as his choice of the SV-51 helmet with Mayan markings for Sheryl... That's by far my favorite helmet design from the Macross series. B))

  4. Hello. I have been on this forums since just a few years ago and I was wondering if anyone remembers the amount of time that passed between the announcement of Macross Frontier and the December 2007 special. I would like to make my own calculations for the amount of time left before a new series is officially announced...

  5. No, that was all Miyatake. Although the movie version of the Nousjadeul Ger was designed by guest mecha designer Yutaka Izubuchi, he of subsequent "Patlabor" fame.

A.F.A.I.K. Miyatake designed each and every Zentradi and Meltrandi spaceship and mecha, except the Regults and the Glaug, which were Kawamori's doing...

  6. Co-creator. While Kawamori wasn't involved in the minute details of Macross, the original concepts did come from him (i.e. the Valks and setting). He mainly focuses on mecha design, he has written episodes, directed episodes, and directed series. Others have developed Macross into its current form, but the original concept began with Kawamori and matured through other people, hence, co-creator. A more effective title for his role these days is probably "Show Runner" or "Executive Producer".

As far as I know Kawamori created the original series concept, the whole triangle with a space war as background, the alien giants fighting mecha, the valkyries, the regults and the glaug, the space opera setting, the use of other alternatives to fighting for winning a war, everything. Without him, there wouldn't be any Macross... period.

  7. Ah, i love this spoiler discussion. Makes looking at posts so EXCITING! lol.

If it makes you feel any better, Leiji Matsumoto agrees with you - he refused to watch the movie after reading the script. having said that, you need to keep in mind the circumstances surrounding the film being made. It was considered the 'Waterworld' of the japanese film industry while it was in production. it was over budget, had a director who had previously only ever done dramas, and had Johnnies Jimusho on everyones backs reportedly slashing battlescenes and on-screen time of the Yamato itself. In short, most expected the movie to tank plus it would have been difficult to get Kimutaku back to reprise the role.

Its well worth a watch regardless. Turn it off before the end if you must. Its horrendously overacted but works in an anime-way. actually, the overacting is most likely the main issue thats keeping US licensers away. That, combined with the the fact that they cannot rename it to Starblazers means that the film will not stand much of a financial chance in the US. In Japan, it was kimutaku and the tragic ending that helped the film make some actual money - mostly from female viewers.

    What? Was RETURNER a drama?

Nope, gonna hope that the "Star Blazers" version here in the states actually gets made. Which I was against, until now. If you guys like that kind of ending for the movie, good for you. But if I actually wanted to see that kind of ending, I'd just watch the original version of Space Battleship Yamato II. *Turns around and walks out of thread*

LOL... Man, I just watched the film. You are totally wrong. If the fact that some character dying makes you feel disappointed about the film, I think you are just making a biiig mistake by not taking into account the 2 hours plus x minutes of incredible PURE SCI-FI action of the film. The pace is amazing... is like some reviewer said... "an action film rollercoaster".

I highly recommend you watch the film completely despite not liking the ending. It's got pretty awesome battle scenes and the re-designs are very very good. The acting is quite something and each and every death is there for a reason.

This film is the BEST sci-fi anime adaptation I have ever seen... I hope its success prompts Bandai, Sunrise and Big West to make Live Action film adaptations of Gundam, Macross, Orguss and so on...

This movie finally has demonstrated that good film adaptations of anime and good action sci-fi films aren't exclusive of Hollywood from now on... B))

  8. ...okay that is not good cover in my eyes. Minmay's face looks just weird

    They're called glasses, LOL...

(Sorry, but I'm just getting more and more sick and tired of all the people who say a girl is ugly just because she uses them...) <_<

  9. Kinda "meh." Cool design; just wish they didn't have to give the "stealth" treatment to everything in sci-fi nowadays. Always liked the century-fighters-inspired feel to the classes/designs of the supporting ships in Starblazers/Yamato, as well as the naval-inspired captial ships--romanticized though they may be.

Well... the Yamato was kept intact. But I must tell you that the new Cosmo Zero design is gonna give you a major surprise when you watch it in action. I won't spoil it, but just wait until you see it in action dude, hehe. :p

No, I haven't seen the film, but I self-spoiled  when I read the description of a scene where the craft appears...

  10. Hey Kronnang Dunn, is there any more to that image you're using for an avatar?

Sadly not. That's how it was posted on Pixiv...

Are there any good pics of the ships and fighters from this movie yet? I know there was a Tiger on display but I still haven't seen any desent shots of the Cosmo Zero yet.

    Chris
