Hello, First a bit of tiny history. Models are my passion. For some it's books, cars, bikes, or boats. Me, it's models. Myersjessee, a friend and fellow modeler of mine said to me one day a few months back, "Hey, I've got a 1/72 launch arm I picked up from Japan but it's very plain, especially for the amount I paid for it. Would you be interested in seeing what you could do with a copy of it?" When I stopped giggling like a school girl about getting the opportunity of just seeing the kit, I replied in my best manly, non chalant voice, "Sure Jesse. I'd love to see what I could do to detail it better." Then I quickly went into a giggling fit again causing my wife to worry. When I finally got it it, I wasn't really giggling anymore. It's really plain. The claw assembly was nice, the size was nice, but I couldn't stop thinking it was just a 'stick' for a Valkyrie. I was actually pretty bummed that it was so 'blah'. It was about 20 parts, vague instructions, and not much for detail. It didn't really resemble anything from the animation or the line art. There are quite a few differences in the line art and animation, but still, it was just a 'stick'. I started with the parts of it I liked, but then got into ideas for it. It needs a base. It needs detail. It needs a signal arm. I got into it, then life happened and it got shelved for quite a bit. But, I recently finished it and showed what I had done with it to Jesse. He seemed to really like it. This project went from making a nice stand for a Hasagawa VF-1 to becoming a model itself. That means it becomes a nice project to accompany your Hasagawa instead of just a add on to your Hasagawa. As long as the molding and casting allow it, this kit is around 50 peices at present. Anway, here's my vesion of the ARMD carrier Launch Arm from 'Macross DYRL'. I'm sorry for the bad pics, I'm a modeler not a photographer, so try to bear with me. Jesse said he will try to get some better pics soon. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...12296&members=1 The first picture is the original Japanese resin kit of the launch arm, and the rest is what I did with it. The ruler in the pics is 18". The base is 15" x 6", and the launch arm is about 15" tall. The kit just went to Jesse, who is very busy, so this is still at least a month away from getting started. We just wanted to see what the general interest in it will be. We estimate the cost for the kit will be about $65.00, but it could change a little. When I get a kit back from Jesse, I will finalize the instructions, and build one completely for pictures. I'm hoping that it will be wall mountable also. I'd like to try it myself before claiming it can be first though, but I see no reason yet to think it won't be able to be hung on the wall like a picture. (Keep in mind that it's gonna stick out about 20" from the wall) So either as a wall mount or as a mini diorama base, it's pretty cool all assembled supporting a VF-1 ready for launch. Please feel free to post any and all questions or comments and your interest in owning one.

Here's what I've found. Chrono, comparing those pictures won't give you a correct scale unless there are known lengths for all the ships you are comparing. Then you could scale them to each other. ARMD 430m Prometheus 512m Daedalus 488m Oberth ?(215-390m) I say 215m or even smaller. The ships on the cover of the PM are not to scale with each other, just a graphic. The The ships are not to scale with the SDF-1, Destroids are not to scale with each other, and flip it over, all the Zentraedi are not to scale with each other. That's not gonna reallly help you. The Oberth is a destroyer class while the ARMD, Daedalus and Prometheus are super carriers. In modern days and navies past, a Destroyer is significantly smaller than a carrier class. Battleships and cruisers are bigger than destroyers, but smaller than carriers. Destroyers are generally very fast and light packing a large amount of firepower and less armor. The Oberth has 4 main cannon that are mounted forward. If it were the size of the ARMD, those cannon would be bigger (bore) than the SDF-1's main cannons. It would also be slow to turn to pick a taget. That seems counter to it's design of massive engines and canon. Also of note are missiles. It would be ridiculous for the UN SPACY to commision a ship which carried nukes so enourmous that they'd require their own small fleet to create and resupply. (Not at least when the VF can carry 6 large tactical nukes) Also the antenae and mast would seem to be overly large for a ship nearly 400m long. I'm sorry I wasn't able to find a actual length, (other than the 215m). To me that makes more sense being at least as 1/2 as long as the ARMD carriers. At 215m, those cannon are still enormous, but the missiles would be more believable. In the animation the explosions and battles imply a smaller ship than ARMD carriers, but that is the nothing concrete.

I feel like a refugee. I can't believe how much info was just lost. Links to sites, projects underway, and all the people that I consider friends. I do hope he does not let the hacker win and brings the forums back.

the hostile responds of some people here is not very incouraging to people there. Somehow I'm beginning to think that's a good thing in this case. hostility and hate is never good. bad karma. I've heard it can lead to the darkside as well! Graham Bu the dark side is cooler anyways. Light side: jedi mind trick, jumping. Dark side: force choke, lightning, red lightsaber. And in the shocking news of all bad Karma, Robotech.com buys Macross World from Shawn who has grown tired of all the fighting instead of contributing. Macross fans riot and silently fume that they can no longer be the purists. Robotech fans are confused by the altering of Robotech into some Japanese cartoon with funny names. Bandai moves in and slaps everybody down. The sites are locked away, leaving only partial pieces saved by a fan or two and hidden on their own personal sites. Bandai officially shuts down all Macross replacing it all with some new reimagining of Gundam yet again. An announcement is made it will be rereleased in 2032 for the 50th anniversary. However wanting to be totally out of touch with the old decrepit fans, the new generations love it and is reimagined as a type of Power Rangers team.

It's the masters not the kit. There's almost always some differences between the master and the cast like seams and a clear canopy instead of a plug. I assume this canopy was done this way to offer a spare for the cast kit incase one is wrecked during construction.

To vacuum form the canopies.

Great looking model Jesse! You should bring it and enter it on the model show on April 3rd. The masters look to be even sharper still!

??? I don't see any comedy in any of the Patlabor movies, these were designed from the get-go for an adult audience (get your mind outta the gutter) as you can tell from the political subject matter and level of sophistication in its character treatments, unlike the TV series and the "new OVA" it spawned, which relies more on comedy for its target audience (kids & teens). I'd recommend the Read or Die movie. No prior knowledge of the manga or TV series is required, a good standalone 2 hour movie with plenty of action and fun. There's a bunch of comedy in Movie 1. Ohta vs. Tyrant, Kanuka claiming her reason for coming to Japan. In Movie 2 there's fewer, but Ohta at the target range comes immediately to mind. I don't mean they're a comedy, just that there are genuinely funny moments.

It'd be silly not to be able to move the barrels. What if a leg was damaged, the ground soft, or simple fine sighting adjustments, etc. By being able to position the barrles, you gain that much more accuracy. When you see the barrels spread, they aren't aiming at a target and they aren't ready to fire, but reloading or just in the 'safety on' sorta position. However, when all 4 are aiming together, there's little chance their targets will know what happened. The arms have the same poses, a firing stance and a 'at ease' stance. On page 2 of this thread, the line art is both arms and cannon aiming, while the CG pics are of the cannon only aiming. The kit shown on page three is 'at ease'.

Duuudes?!! "Macross: Do You Remeber Love?" And you call yourselves Macross fans? "Patlabor 1 and 2" are pretty funny and strong together, and seperate.

Cause he's a member here and it's really Rodan awakening. -
Will the Regult large and small missile variant parts be sold seperately? I'd like to use them on the old plastic kits.

Farscape is cool. Definatley an original.

I've got a first generation set from the original pre-order. All mine are perfect. Maybe some people are just rougher with them. The only difference between my disc centers is some are mirrored, while a few are clear. All of mine are fine though.

Blockhead is the mechs real name. It was available in many scales in Japan including 1/72 and 1/48. Revell just repackaged the 1/48 kit with a different paint job and called it Talos. I have a spare Revell Talos (1/48 Blockhead). But the box is a little beat up. What were looking to trade?

SMT got my masters May 2003. I can't even count how many kits were done since then. 20+? I'm not saying mine should have come before his bigger money makers, but it's just too long. If the Monster is still in limbo this May, I'm telling him I'd like the masters back. I'll find somebody else. SMT does great work, but I agree, they seem to try too much in too short a time. All the while taking orders before getting caught up.

I just recieved the Jan 2005 Hobby Japan. (I know it's February) Just wanted to let you know there is a tiny 3 view drawing of a 1/48 Armored VF-1A. The armor doesn't strike me as being correct in proportions, but like it was made to fit the toy solely. Somebody who can read Japanese might be able to get more info from the litle blurb, or there might be new info in the newest HJ.

There is no way too putty and sand away the seam without destroying the plating. Seam lines are part of plated kits. You can try to paint the seams with a metallic paint, but it won't look plated either. The best plated kits that I've seen so far are the Gundam kits. Their only advantage though is the seams are along panel lines.
-
Just different. I chop up my boxes and make them mini posters. The kit is the most important thing to me though.
-
Sorry to hear it and tell you this. It sounds like a bad batch of resin. It probably wasn't mixed properly. Your best bet is to talk to the guys you got the kit from, and see if they will send you a rplacement part. Your only other option is to drill out the gooey area, and fill it in again with a putty or epoxy. But it may be even gooier deeper.

I got so hooked on this game. I beat it and I can tell you the re's some nifty mini missions after, plus playing again with all the upgrades is kinda entertaineing.
