  1. I actually do like SMS and the story intrigue it lends to Frontier. So far nothing has been bad about Frontier for me. I was just saying it is kind of sad to see a military force go from being so good to being so inept, even if it is just the hero syndrome with the heroes being a PMC.

  2. Something I thought about while reading March's post. While they said in Macross that the New United Nation Government (NUNG) was formed after SW1, they didn't say the military was then being called the New United Nations Spacey (NUNS), and in fact continued to use United Nations Spacey (UNS) up through Macross 7. Now in Frontier they are calling it NUNS, showing something changed. Perhaps our wondering about how they said it was New in Macross version how it seems only new now was a misconception because we were viewing NUNG and NUNS as the same thing when one is the government and the other in the military.

As for the role of NUNS in Frontier, I have noticed and am a little displeased with how incompetent they seem to be now. In Macross, Mac+, and from what I have seen and read about of Mac7 the UNS was a pretty capable force and did a good job (mostly due to the good personnel they had such as Isamu, Max, etc.) but the NUNS can't seem to do anything on their own without calling in SMS to save them. I liked how well the UNS did it's job. For whatever reason they changed to NUNS, it obviously had an impact on their effectiveness.

  3. Damn you stole my idea Dex! Hmm well I really like the face that Mikhail makes at the new fold booster though. Priceless.

Can't steal an idea that wasn't proposed previously can you? ^_^;) Still waiting for someone to make the gif though, I'm sure someone will come through. Mikhail was kind of creeped out by how well LAI can make their stuff, it was a good moment. Off topic, but I hope sometime soon we get to see Ozma's VF-25S without any extra armor, it hasn't been shown as such at all in the series so far and we are half way through.

  4. And also elitist Macross purists who are dumb. :)

[stuckuprichvoice]Yesss... this Macross II is quite below my league, I wouldn't be caught dead associating with it and those mongrel VF-2SS. My elite Macross membership may cover sound forces and throttle jockeys who can fly with guitars, but I draw the line at this far fetched Marduk war.[/stuckuprichvoice]

JK ;) . Actually I don't really have a problem with Macross II, but I admittedly didn't like it that much. Also I haven't even seen more than 1 episode of Macross 7, so I can't really compare that anyway.

  5. Wow, those painted protos look gorgeous, hopefully this will come with FP's on first release. I'm not too sure wether or not to get Ozuma or Alto editions, but I'm a darker guy myself so that dull grey looks cool to me. Ozuma with either A. Internally combust or B. Survive and live a long eventful life (he'll probably only lose a body part instead of die).

Actually that is something I posted in the theories thread over in Movies and TV. Perhaps Ozma gets injured badly but not killed. However he can not fly again and maybe not even walk or something. That could lead to a lot of character drama for him as he tried to deal with this. Then Alto can get his Valk without him being dead.

As for the toy, I am leaning to get Ozma's more than Alto but only if I can get Super parts for Ozma (the armor pack is nice but I like the super more). If they only make the armor pack for Ozma then I'll probably get Alto to get the Super pack. I like you have a tendency to go with darker color schemes, also I'm a sucker for the S type Valk.

  6. ?

    Episode 13 preview:

"The FIRST Macross ship suddenly appeared. When THIS brave warrior awakes, Alto will experience the fate of planets. Next episode: 'Memory of Global.' Resound through the galaxy, sound of fighting."

Sorry, but it just can't be any clearer than that...

That's from the Chihiro sub though, you should see what it says in the GG sub, it is different.

"A First GENERATION Macross unexpectedly appears. When that majestic figures awakens once again, Alto will witness the fate of the planet. Next Time: Memory of Global. Resound through the Galaxy, O song of Tumult!"

See, that makes it sound different. Now I am under the impression it is the original Macross, but I am just saying this is why we are discussing this.

Also I'm not saying any sub is more correct, I'm just saying, the difference in wording is what has us wondering.

  7. Thing is there has been debate on whether it is saying first Macross ship or first generation of Macross class ships. That is why we are discussing and debunking beliefs of other Macros class ships that don't exist. By using a Sherlock Holmes and eliminating all other possibilities, we are back to the fact that we can only conclude it to be the original Macross (unless there was a second we didn't know about, but in that case we can't determine that).

  8. The VF-25F Battroid is 15.59 meters including head lasers. That would make the battroid model approx. 0.216527 meters which translates to 21.65 centimeters approximately. If you want your measurements in standard then that's around 8.52 inches.

By the numbers also if anyone is curious, the 1/60 DX toy would be approximately 25.98 centimeters tall and 10.23 inches or so.

  9. Back from Episode 12, refined thinking:

I'm seeing some signs of covert racism against the Zentraedi in this episode... it could just have been situational regarding the 33rd Marine group (or whatever the Zentraedi separatists were called), but could it also hint at something deeper? Leon seemed to chide the President for his remark, but in that sort of way that says "I agree with you, you just shouldn't say things like that out loud."

Knowing Leon is up to no good behind the scenes, I wonder if the Zentraedi might be a bigger chess piece in this show than first imagined. The writers have gone out of their way to show contemporary Zentraedi culture in several episodes, moreso than any other Macross series, so I wonder if maybe there's a reason for the focus?

Regarding the purple crystals, I'm still not sure how special they may be as a device, but as evidence of something else I think they're pretty important. Looking at the monitor readouts of Fold Dislocations, they seem to look a lot like the little crystals, and they also seem to show up in the same scenes, suspiciously. Maybe they're some sort of compressed deposit that results from travel through a dislocation? They mention that spacefolding compresses space, so what if the dislocation (purple cloud) gets compressed into a smaller size and crystallizes? A crystal as evidence of something compressing a dislocation could mean something, especially if it means a ship accidentally hit one and disappeared through it (in a previous series...).

From a macro-standpoint, we've never seen a Fold Dislocation referenced in any series before now, so they obviously have to play some part in the story.

I don't think the Zentradi are necessarily big in the whole plot. Bringing them back was sort of a fan service I think. Also we've seen Zentradi culture before (Fleet of the Strongest Women for example). As for the Presidents line about Zentradi, he probably just doesn't like them as much and as his adviser Leon was telling him to watch what he says. We all know that slightest misspoken word can be the end of a politician's career. As for why the President doesn't like Zentradi, well he seems fair aged, he could have been around when the Zentradi completely wiped humanity off the face of the Earth. Some things are hard to forgive.

  10. Ok, I can't take this. Lets get everything straight here people. The SDF-1 was never destroyed, at all, never. It was damaged badly at the end of Macross but refitted and sat in that lake fine for at least 31 years up to the time of Mac+ which is the last time we saw it since it wasn't shown in Macross 7. The events in VF-X2 do have the rebel UN guys taking over the Macross but they are defeated and the Macross is fine and nothing happened to it, the ship that was destroyed in the game was the Macross 13 which is a New Macross class vessel. Completely different.

Now, hopefully everyone knows the truth about SDF-1 now. It was never destroyed unless something happened to it after the events of Mac7 (I assume they would have said if it was lost or destroyed in Mac7 so I think anything that happened was after) and before MacF. Hopefully no one will be confused now about the SDF-1 now that I've straighten this up (not much chance of that though). Now we can continue to guess why the WTF-1 is there, we just have to remember if it is the SDF-1 then something just happened after 2040 (or 2050 if you count VF-X2 like I do) to make it end up there or there is a serious retcon (I hope not). I just want everyone to know the SDF-1 was perfectly fine the last we saw it.

  11. So your guessing it will be like a story telling us how the WTF-1 got there but the main characters still won't know, just we will. That is kind of like in Avatar The Last Airbender when they had the 'Appa's Lost Days' story where we saw what happened to him while he was lost but none of the main characters know about any of that, just the viewers.

  12. Something odd in episode 12. Alto's cockpit in battroid mode still has the bit from the rear of the canopy behind the pilot in it, while in previous shots of the cockpit (such as Ozma's from episode 2 and 3) it's clearly not there (because if you think about it, it's not supposed to be.

    Alto's cockpit in episode 12.

    Ozma's cockpit in episde 2.

    post-8290-1214629315_thumb.jpg

I also recall something similar with Michel's cockpit in one episode, where he's in battroid mode, and we still see the front bit that divides the forward part of the canopy (again despite being in battroid mode).

To me it just seems to be either laziness in they didn't bother animating those borders or the fact that the times we don't see the borders were earlier episodes so it could be that those borders were all supposed to be there (animation retcon?).

  13. Well it looks like Alto's finally learned to use the mounting points for the gunpod seeing as he's simply thrown it away in past episodes.

That's what I was thinking of, now SMS doesn't have to pay for yet another gunpod. If it isn't the valkyries Alto has been carelessly using it is the gunpods. to me it makes a bit more sense to have it stored on the leg instead of the arm like past valks have done. Easier to reach on the leg. However storing on the arm works better for transformation, don't have to move it.

  14. Actually Ozma is more likely going to die having been shot by 3 Q-Reas he didn't see like Shin said, but while he is watching a video of a live Fire Bomber concert.

(Truthfully I'm hoping Ozma will survive the series, I don't want to be doing carbon copy plot lines with the original Macross show).

  15. My theory on the whole "send Sheryl to Gallia 4" thing:

It was a set-up by NUNS (or a secret or black-ops faction of NUNS operating independently; since Leon didn't seem to know about Agent G(race)). NUNS has been established as being weak, cowards, and with low-morale (related to why the WTF-1 was doing on Gallia 4? Perhaps due to their ineptitude to keep it secured to Earth? Who knows). So NUNS needs something to show that they aren't as weak as people think.

So they decide to create a "situation" on Gallia 4, knowing that there are some hostile, malcontent Zentradi there (Zentradi they themselves sent there). The ones pulling the strings may have intended something as simple as a kidnapping of a famous person (ex. Sheryl), but the whole fainting thing inciting a riot would work just as well.

So the situation turns critical on Gallia 4, and nothing can be done about it for at least a week, because that's how long it would take to send a force there.

Enter Brera in his VF-27, sporting the NUNS colors, and saves the day. Either by rescuing the famous person (Plan A), or by smacking down the rebellion (Plan B).

NUNS demonstrates their ability to take charge and resolve a crisis, and people's faith in NUNS is renewed. NUNS could then use this as the starting point to begin asserting themselves more strongly in the rest of the fleets.

But of course, this is all ruined by Michel and Ranka, and could explain why Leon is grilling Luca in Episode 13, probably wondering how SMS got a hold of LAI neo-fold boosting technology.

So my theory is that the whole Gallia incident was politically motivated by NUNS (or a hardcore separate faction), but kind of backfired due to the unforeseen intervention of SMS.

As for the WTF-1, no clue. I want to assume that it emergency folded from it's original location on Earth due to some crisis, based on its position and stature which seems exactly the same as when it's in its original resting position in the lake. Of course, that doesn't explain that APHOS-like thing we saw in that lake bed or ocean on Gallia 4.

I like this theory actually, makes a good deal of sense. No one can explain away the WTF-1 for now and that might have nothing to do with the original plan. With your theory I'm more willing to go with a secret black-ops section of NUNS (with Grace and Brera as it's main staff) and they are working in the interest of NUNS in this case to help it assert its role like you said. This sounds very Section 31 to me but that is why I like it. (For those who don't know Section 31 was a secret illegal organization in Star Trek DS9 that worked in the interests of the Federation by protecting it from threats even the Federation didn't know existed. They basically pulled strings and did numerous things to safeguard the government without it knowing).
