  1. Set straight by Seto again, heh.

I can tell you why the round that killed Messer didn't explode though. It didn't come from the railguns, it was a beam cannon shot from the right side beam cannon on the monitor (head) turret, which in Fighter mode of the Sv-262Hs is also the aircraft nose. The animation makes it pretty clear too it is a beam.

  2. Ok, after refreshing my HLJ account a bunch to ensure it didn't vanish from open orders and also saving my confirmation email, I'm ready to go to sleep. Congrats to who managed it, good luck for those still trying for reopens or NY.

    Good night everyone.

  3. Order confirmation from HLJ!! Woo! Thanks to the link posters!

I almost managed it on amiami, but HLJ came through in time anyway. I prefer to work with them too so this is the best option for me. Now I got both Messfer VF-31 and Keith Sv-262 preorders with them.

  4. This reminds me of my old college's class registration mornings... up early... have to be ready at an exact time to rush to get something online before it is gone... same stress.

  5. Will the preorder show on amiami.com or do I need to go to amiami.jp? I hope to get it through HLJ because they are the only ones I am familiar with, but I'll take what I can get.

EDIT: Looks like it doesn't matter. So I'm gonna have tabs open for the 4 mentioned sites, and I'll schedule my sleep accordingly, heh.

First time doing pre-order madness. I was going to for the Draken but I missed it due to work (at the time I was overseas, now I'm back in EST), but later got lucky and got a preorder of a 262 when it reopened once thanks to a notice here. I hope even if I don't get it tonight similar stuff might happen again.

  6. Just a thought... but maybe the reason the Siegfried has a lower caliber ammunition is the simplest reason of all... it cost less. Seto even pointed out how expensive the Siegfried customs must cost, and while it is a minor change, reducing ammunition size can save some money they might need elsewhere. It could also be for lethality reasons but doesn't change the fact these things are expensive, and Brisingr is well states to not be that wealthy.

So silly question about Mac7 music, was the terrible quality version of Planet Dance (the one with gunfire and Gamlin berating Basara in the background) ever actually released on CD or some other media in Japan?

It was! It's on the first album, Let's Fire, along with the studio duet version of Basara and Mylene singing it. It was important to the rise of Fire Bomber's fame so it was included, even though it isn't really all that good and exists mainly as a nod to the show.

Fellow board members are also really good about posting when orders go up again after the initial storm.

It's true, that is how I managed to snag a preorder for the Sv-262! I hope that if preorder madness is too much for me I'll still be as lucky for this one afterward. After all, the Hayate valk reopened several times it seems.

Incidentally, I am probably going to need a lot more stands soon... will be back at your site soon I bet, lol.

  9. So to try and get Messer I'll have to be up at 2am on January 6th.. early Friday morning... that'll be rough but... I really want the 31F to go with my Sv-262Hs (rival displays are my thing apparently, I got a YF-30 and YF-29B after all, lol). So let the battle be joined.

  10. Messer pre-order is Jan 6? Ok then! That is the one I've been waiting for, and after Yeti's pics and review I am super excited now. I own a YF-30 and already love that so I really am looking forward to a 31 now. And Messer releases in April in time for my birthday! Of course.. I have to succeed in pre-ordering it first.

I managed to get a 262 preorder on a second opening, but I was in a timezone at the time that made it easier. Now I'm gonna have to be up at a weird time to do it I bet. What time do these preorders usually happen again (in EST for my reference)?

  11. Ditto. I like to see new designs and transformation systems. I've actually never cared for the Saab Draken, preferring the look of the Viggen, but I can set my bias aside due to how well Kawamori was able to translate it into a valk. I'm also hoping that the VF-54 will come to fruition (that's the 104ish design, IIRC), and that it will have a different transformation, too. No such thing as too many valk designs.

The F-104 looking plane is called the Sv-154 in fiction. Still no word on if it actually is transforming or not, but it wouldn't be a bad bet since it is Macross.

  12. Oh I dunno, the X-32 has its charms... You have to be in a certain contrarian mood to appreciate its look, but then the same could be said of the YF-23 (to a lesser degree). Who was it, some general or something who helped choose the YF-22 over the -23, who said something along the lines of "If it looks like a fighter, then it's the better choice."

The YF-23 certainly looked unorthodox compared to the more "aggressive" YF-22, and the -32 to what was essentially a scaled-down F-22 in the X-35. Both were ignored in favor of their inferior but more aesthetically pleasing competitors, proving once again that fashion really is everything.

I suppose that is true. In the engineering world we follow the idea that form follows function. If it looks pretty and works then that is a happy accident. However the looks are the last thing designed for in a project usually.

Sounds like that general was ok with getting an inferior model as long as it looked cool, so I guess that worked out. The 22 certainly does look nice, lol.

  13. If he is serious and doesn't know, the YF-23 is the real world prototype fighter jet that was the competitor to Lockheed's prototype the YF-22. Macross often takes inspiration from reality so these kind of competitions like the one in Macross Plus happen all the time (there was a competitor to the F-35 as well.... but it looks really weird... not that the 35 is much better).

Anyway, Lockheed won the contract and developed the F-22. I actually know a lot of people who worked on the design team of the YF-23, who kinda feel shafted now. In hindsight a lot of evidence shows it really was the better plane, but this is how things go. If you want to learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_YF-23

  14. Also noticed on review: With the benefit of knowing how things end, it sure looks like Gigil is the first protodeviln to learn to create spiritia.

Pity it was moments before he kamikaze'd a whole friggin' planet to death.

I also realized this upon reaching that episode, which made the whole thing sadder really. He was able to uncover the secret but was so focused on saving Sivil he wasn't able to show his contemporaries the better way. It is also possible Gigil was so caught up in his feelings he just couldn't tell either.

  15. I got lucky for the Sv-262. I got it when it reopened for like 20 minutes about a month ago.. but I only was able to jump on it because I was deployed overseas and happened to have wifi at work, and more importantly I was not busy at the time so I could follow the link from here.

I'm back in America again and now that kind of thing will happen when I'm sleeping.. so while I got this.. getting Messer's valk or the 31A eventually will be very hard.

  16. There are two primary Walkure albums, Walkure Attack and Walkure Trap. Aside that there is some single releases but with the exception of variations of Giraffe Blues (such as Mikumo and Freyja solo versions, since the album version is both of them) the two albums cover pretty much everything seen in the show.

  17. I can't remember if Grace ever physically flight the VF-27 as opposed to Brera. As an android Grace has always flown the VF from distance in both TV and movie versions, hasn't she?

She flew in one in episode 23, but you see her VF and her in the suit in 22 (after she kills the Frontier hit squad sent after her).

  18. In Japanese Romaji it's 'Kanchou buriji in.' and 'Kanchou buriji auto.'

Unless you're asking what's the correct term for that in Japanese military/naval use?

No that is pretty much exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

Mind you, if you know the other, go ahead and enlighten me, I don't mind knowing all versions.

So I suppose auto is just how out ends up getting spoken in Japanese (considering how most Japanese characters end up corresponding to an English consonate-vowel pairing and all). Kind of amusing how it accidentally forms an entirely different word in English. Just goes to show how translation is never a simple thing.
