Yeah, you see magazine articles and books about disco occasionally, too.
... and I'd be happy with a Studio 54 type movie... but not Mama Mia, though.
Never Mama Mia.
-
I've asked Aramaki about it. MOSPEADA is deader than disco.
Ouch... I was hoping with those pictures that Kakinuma did a couple years back, and his professed interest in doing more stories, and Aramaki's gorgeous Animation Bikes book cover, with the MOSPEADA and Garland, that maybe SOMETHING...
Plus, we now have Toynami, Aoshima, CMs, and Mega House all making toys. Could be the additional backing that was previously lacking.
-
Roger, next time you're in a conversation with either of the two gentlemen, think you could ask about any new, 2009 possibility of seeing an updated MOSPEADA (like the Dread 2 and 2007 Legioss)?
-
In regards to a lot of what you say, these are the reasons while MOSPEADAs are the only real military robotic mecha that ever made real-world sense to me.

I'll grab a Hovertank!

Huh? What are these two?

Not mislabeled, Toynami is the official Mega House distributor in the US. It's like how Matchbox used to bring Bandai Macross toys over and label them Matchbox Robotech toys.
Knew about the Matchbox/Bandai thing, didn't know about Toynami being the distributor for Mega House though. Thanks.
So, either way, it's not the Beagle, but the Mega House one.
-
I'm guessing it's the Megahouse, mislabelled as Toynami?
-
This is listed on Amazon, sold by Hohotoys, as the Scott MOSPEADA, made by Toynami. They also have Rand.
This isn't really the one by Toynami (aka Beagle), is it?

Ok then, nothing it is...

Until this thread, I never even heard of this series! Also, it seems that none of the fan-subbers have picked this up, either.
It's a brand new show, with Shinji Aramaki involved, who is kind of the variable bike guru, in addition to having directed Appleseed: Ex Machina and a bunch of OVAs.
As for fan subbers, I hope it gets their attention soon, but I think it just premiered yesterday, the 6th, so that's probably why no one has subbed it yet.
-
Thanks for posting those. Not much for good images of it out there.
I agree with you on the Garland EX thing. This definitely looks more like Shinji Aramaki's Megazone stuff, especially the latter stuff that he did the mechanical designs for and co-directed.

It's the first 3000 that are easily distinguishable as they have different color intakes. Not sure which I prefer...
My post notes that I suspect we will see what happened with the VF-1S happening again. What I'm really trying to do is help out those people who are debating throwing $300 at a subpar toy to make their Beta complete. I suspect if they're patient they'll be able to buy that toy for $79.99 (or even $59.99) again at some point so hopefully I can help some people save some money. I was actually quite surprised Toynami didn't make some "gift sets" available when the Beta was released. Maybe they're going to let the Beta really make demand super strong before putting more Blue Alphas out. I doubt we'll ever see a full run on 15K Rooks... They screwed up and made way too many Ben Dixon VF-1 toys, hopefully they learned a lesson.
I really hope you're right (and appreciate the effort you're going to).
It would be nice to have some sort of announcement from Toynami about this, either way.
Has anyone actually contacted Toynami asking about this?
-
So do other people on here not have much interest in this show, or just haven't downloaded it yet?
-
I'd hate to live in a city that's 90% elevated highways.
Pretty though...
-
That much is obvious. What I'm getting at is that there is clearly demand for the blue MPC Alpha right now and if Toynami has the right to produce more of them then it would be silly for them not to make more toys.
Lord knows I want one, though $300 on eBay is more than a little steep.

Just downloaded and watched Viper's Creed.
*** Spoilers ahead ***
First of all, I don't speak a word of Japanese, so I'm not too clear on what was going on, but just trying to do my best guess.
I'm assuming that each rider has one of these women back at head quarters that is kind of his/her personal operator or intel person?
Not sure how I feel about the mecha. As those of you who know me on here know, I am pretty obsessed with motorcycle mecha, but I don't know about this one. The arms and legs just seem a little too skinny for my taste. Not sure how they seem to skate along the highway in a few of the scenes, when the wheels are on the knees, not the feet. It's a bit disappointing that all the motorcycle mecha look identical except for the personalized sticker on the front, but if these are standard issue to these mercenaries, then I guess it makes sense. Similarly, though I prefer the MOSPEADA or BGC type of ride armor, this more Megazone-like mecha, with the rider sitting within a cockpit inside, probably also makes sense. Reminds me of the Paladins from Blassreiter.
Speaking of the highway, how come all the roads seem completely deserted?
I was impressed by the integration of CG and hand drawn animation here. Usually I find it pretty jarring, but it's pretty seemless here.
The cast of riders is what you would expect in an anime. Tough guy main character, good looking (blond jokester?), pretty woman, and large older oafish character.
Liked the action, though there was little else in this episode. The riding on the walls was cool, Cyclops dropping his weapons pods (sort of like shedding fastpacks in Macross) was visually nice, though after the big explosion, the hand sinking slowly below the water was a bit melodramatic.
Gorgeous cityscape at the end.
Directing seems pretty good, from what I can tell.
Have to say, I really like the artistic style during the closing credits.
That's about all I can say, based on not understanding any of the dialogue.
Now I'm waiting to see Rideback (downloaded the manga, but no signs of the anime yet).

It's a great idea. I'll send you my numbers as soon as I find the time to dig out my Alphas.
Probably a dumb question, but where is the number on the Alpha? I have my certificate that came with it from Robotech.com, but I want to make sure the numbers match up.
-
Anyone know if the Hurricane motoslaves are the only ones we can expect to see, or are there plans for the Typhoon and Typhoon 2?
-
What's the consensus as far as the model kits versus the Yamato toy?
As in, if you're only planning on getting one, or one series, which should it be?
-
You're looking at it too hard. Unlike the CMs where all the Betas have the exact same head, the Toynami red Beta features a unique head with a fin and a little sensor on it to better emulate the head of the matching Alpha. Sadly, they didn't bother emulating the Alpha's paint scheme better, that would have been awesome.
As LSB said, you're thinking of the sticker sheet that Mega House had that allowed you to convert a Stig figure into a Wolff figure. CMs is going the next step further and producing an actual Wolff figure with purple under garments (instead of Stig's red) and a unique head sculpt. I can't wait to learn more.
Thanks for both replies.
I'm tempted here, but I think I've resolved myself to just get blue and Shadow Alphas (if I can ever get my hand on a blue Alpha) and Betas.
I want the Toynamis, not the CMs or Aoshimas, but it's just not cheap.
-
You mean the sticker sheet for the Megahouses: You get a MH Stick, slap the mustache and sunglasses over Stig's face and voilá, you have a Jonathan Wolf custom.
You're right. That's what it was. Thanks.

Re: The red Beta preorder, anyone know what this "Z Head" thing is they're talking about? Can't see in the pics.

I like the head sculpt on that one.
