  1. I'll only watch it if George Romero, Stephen King or Stanley Kubrick directs.

Kubrick's dead. Stephen King doesn't direct. i just hope whoever they do get to do this will not screw up the creepy feeling and atmosphere of the games.

More likely than not, they'll turn this into another one of those mindless action flicks with laughable gore/makeup and weak attempts at jokes.

Did I just summarize the RE movie? B)

Silent Hill works well in an interactive medium, I am not so sure they can sustain the creepiness and tension for 90 minutes or longer as a film.

  2. Admittedly, I never saw the arcade version, or even the DC version of Federation Vs Zeon, but what the hell is wrong with the PS2 version? I finally found a copy at ebworld brand new last month for $19.99, so I snagged it. Personally, I think it's a beautiful game, the renders are nice, (much more so than J to J), the control is great (I'm even getting used to the space batttles, though I've yet to get a newtype rank over D...), and the MS selection is increidble.

Just how much better did the other incarnations look?

The PS2 version is vastly inferior to the DC version graphically. This includes the bleached-out colors, poor explosion and transparency effects and probably more specifics I can't remember for now. While I have never seen the arcade version, many who did claimed the DC version was a perfect port except for a slight lag.

This link should bring you to loads of screen shots from the arcade version.

Edit in: click on another link when you've used the link above to go to IGN's ad page.

  3. i know it isn't a space MS, but come on. how long til the Ez-8 gets some love?

It already did... in Lost War Chronicles. Thanks to the retards in charge of Bandai America, this game (along with the PS2 edition of Giren's Greed) was never brought over like other PS2 Gundam games.

Lost War Chronicles sports a vastly improved Journey to Jaburo engine. I have a feeling that Encounter in Space will probably suck like Journey to Jaburo (since these games are made by the same developer) and a year later they'll release a new game with a fine-tuned engine (like how Lost War Chronicles was a tweak on the Journey to Jaburo engine) which again will be a Japan-only title.

Ever notice how when a Gundam model kit gets released in the U.S., they got a new or better version in Japan?

  4. Man, I never understood the story line of the first and second silent hills. I still haven't played the third one yet and I have a feeling I'm not going to understand it at all either! :p All I know is I have a great time playing these games. They are fun as hell. I hope the movie will be like the games. Well actually I hope it is explained better. :p:D:lol:

Go to GameFAQs.com, you can find plenty of plot guides posted there that explain things well.

  5. Does it bother anyone that the crazy cyborg in Alien (forgot his name) is actually...... Bilbo Baggins!!!!

Hey, Ian Holm is a great actor. Long before he was even a hobbit.

I'm not so sure I should buy this set. How do I know 5 years or so from now there won't be another "special collector's set"?

You spoke my mind! Fox loves repackaging their movies every couple of years... STAR WARS anyone? The first trilogy must hold the world record for the most versions of home videos ever released.

  6. If they are truly going to bridge teh gap with 70's style I can't wait to see Mace Windu...

    LOL!

Master Yoda - "Master Windu. Carry himself a Jedi must be."

    Master Windu - "Huh?"

Master Yoda - "Large is the afro that covers your hair."

    Master Windu - "Right on......prooooooooper."

    Feel the Force, mofo!

  7. The problem with modding a PS2 is that your mod chip will eventually become obsolete - Sony keeps coming out with new lockout schemes that detect new mod chips and lock the games out. Even if you install the latest chip, it will eventually become unable to play new games. Sony has been doing this since the PS1 days and they haven't stopped doing that. This means you have to upgrade your chip every couple months, all that re-soldiering will eventually trash your PS2.

Even if you rely on "backups", not all new titles are guaranteed to become available that way. These bootlegs are cheaply made without any QA and therefore tend to be harsh on the laser when you get a bad copy. I've seen how unsmoothly some of these played on a friend's modded unit. It'd take forever to load a level while the motor makes unsavory noise.

  8. Won't happen any time soon. Bandai only made the MG Labors because Patlabor was being released on home video at the time and the 3rd movie was coming out. If you haven't noticed, except for Gundam, Bandai's marketing strategy has been to make some new models or toys whenever an anime gets released on DVD these days. You've got the SOC Zambot 3 coming out to promote Zambot 3's DVD release. SOC Evas to support the Renewal DVD Box, HG L-Gaim and Dunbine kits came out when these series came out on DVD in Japan...

Since there's no new Patlabor production or home video releases on the horizon, we won't be seeing any PG or new MG labors for a while. :(
