  1. Few months ago, I have read Macross fans having difficulties understanding why the space folding effect in Macross Frontier was different. I'm not going to do a technological analysis regarding fold drive technology in the Macross universe but I want to explain why the new fold drive effect shown in Macross F makes more sense then what we have seen in other Macross incarnations. First, I want to point out the only thing space folding has in common in various Macross incarnations is the famous "tunnel effect". That tunnel effect is the direct result of folding space and therefore is some kind of wormhole. In SDF Macross, Macross Plus and 7, ships and valkyries are shown suddently disappearing and reappearing during "fold in" and "fold out" operations. While in Macross F valkyries and ships are shown creating some kind of "super dimension gates" or "fold gates" prior to fold in and defold operations. Since it's established that folding space is the equivalent of creating a wormhole (tunnel effect), having a gate or a portal for going through that wormhole makes more sense rather than seeing ships and valkyries disappearing and reappearing in an instant since a wormhole is noting more than a tunnel thus the tunnel effect shown in all Macross incarnations. That's why I think Macross Frontier fold drive effect is close to the real deal.

So I want your opinions regarding that matter guys.

P.S. : I know, my English is still poo. <_<

  2. I think the Macross Consortium was just a vaguely defined plot point created to explain Marj Gueldoa's involvement in the Macross Plus OVA. It's a necessary part of the fictional construct of the plot, required to facilitate the building of Sharon, the X-9 Ghost, the bio-neural chip and so forth. Some entity has to be funding, researching and building all this stuff, so a consortium was created just as a backdrop to make the story work. I don't think there's anything more to it than that, though the Macross Chronicle might expand upon it.

Yeah, makes sense. Maybe after the failure of "Project Sharon" members of the Macross Consortium were arrested and court-martialed since the bio-neural chip installed into Sharon hardware was illegal. The Macross Consortium ceased to exist since it members were in jail and therefore never mentioned again in later Macross sequels.

  3. that or they couldn't get companies to agree with the massive product placements through out.

makes me wonder if Steven Spielberg's adaption of ghost in the shell is still in the works.

I don't know if it's true, but I heard that Steven Speilberg will be not producing or even directing the Ghost in the Shell movie. He did help DreamWorks in acquiring the rights to produce a live-action film adaptation but apparently he does not want to get involved in the project. Strange considering the fact he mentioned that "'Ghost in the Shell' is one of his favorite stories" ...

  4. OK guys, let's make things clear : Just because I mentioned robotech (notice the LITTLE r) does not mean you have to DOMINATE the thread with it especially when there is already a robotech only thread. <_< And as far I am concerned, REAL, ORIGINAL and far more pouplar anime TV series than robotech like Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop are more worth discussing since they are not ripoffs intended to steal the work of others. Hope you get the message guys.

  5. IT'S CONFIRMED !!! THE AKIRA LAM IS DEAD !!!

    From IGN website :

"June 15, 2009 - If you were hoping to see that live-action, big screen version of the anime classic Akira, well, stop hoping.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, director Ruairi Robinson has parted ways with the project. The site adds that they have heard the Leonardo DiCaprio-produced remake is "dead as a doornail.""

Robotech is next I tell you guys. cool.gif And maybe Ghost in the Shell ? unsure.gif

  6. Not enough!! haha. :D

and by the way, which one is the mutated clone? you know, the one who came up with such hits like "to be in love" and "we will win"...

The consequences of genetic diseases you know. No wonder they stop doing clones in the Macross universe. :p

  7. Because he/she would take a hell of a lot of money (as it should be). Are you willing to pay and share? B))

You mean on my own ? If it's the case, the answer would be probably yes. After all, Seto Kaiba is thinking about it for a scan of Macross II. But being a humble college student still living with my parents, my resources are somehow limited. <_< That's why I was thinking that each Macross fan posting on these forums could contribute to the cause the best they can. But since Gubaba is doing the hard work by himself for free, my idea is not worth discussing anymore.

  8. Likewise, with no standardized subs for (for example) DYRL or Zero, a lot of the homages in the dialogue get muffled by the subs. *sigh* If only someone would go through and come up with new subs for EVERY Macross story, we might solve that problem... ;)

How about paying a professional translator to do the job for us Macross fans ?

  9. I haven't seen all of them, so I'm really not sure. Plus, as I'm not exactly fluent in Japanese, there's a lot that I don't catch just watching the series (watching is one thing...if I'm gonna translate, I need to study a show).

As such, most of the huge gaffes I've noticed tend to be things like song lyrics. Or else it's things that aren't mistakes, exactly, but questionable editorial choices (Shinsen had a lot of things like this). But that comes down to opinion.

I started off with Shinsen subs for viewing, and they were all right, but of course they never finished the series. Then I started watching Lunar, who were pretty good. The fact that they used Robotech terminology was kind of off-putting, but other than that, they seemed perfectly acceptable. And of course now THORA (using the AOne/Menclave subs, I believe) is doing a solid job.

But I think the real problem with MacF subs is that everyone started doing them when the show first began, and no one bothers to revise their early scripts in light of later developments. because of that, there's a lot of stuff in the early episodes that are mysterious, and only get explained in later episodes (a good example is Ranka shouting at Ozma after he got wounded in episode 3. In retrospect, it's clear she's flashing back to Brera, but the subs I've seen can't support that reading). NOW would be the perfect time for a fansub group to start on Frontier, and do an excellent version (although maybe they should wait until the movie's out).

Likewise, with no standardized subs for (for example) DYRL or Zero, a lot of the homages in the dialogue get muffled by the subs. *sigh* If only someone would go through and come up with new subs for EVERY Macross story, we might solve that problem... ;)

Thank you for taking time to answer my question. :) I'm going for THORA because I have no interest whatsover to let Lunar with their robotech terminology ruin my Macross Frontier experience (the characters are already doing a great job at it <_< ). ^_^

  10. And SMS is doing a lot of missions that can be considered specops--Luca's constant intelligence gathering, Michel's sniping, and utilizing top pilots in specialized Valkyries or Quadalaun-Raus (Sp?) to provide support where regular forces have trouble coping or are unable to do the job are hallmarks of special operations. There are many other missions--snatch and grabs, rescue ops, psychological operations, boarding actions--that SMS carries out that could be considered special operations. They may be a PMC, but SMS is very much into special operation.

Could not have said it better myself. Pretty much like the members of Sound Force in M7 with all their fancy (magic some will say) equipments (sound boosters and busters) doing special operation missions without being special operators themselves.
