  1. A Comic Con exclusive 1/100 Roy Foker stealth VF-1S from DYRL? for about 30 bucks? Now I know where it's coming from, and it's not Yamato.

    http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=259

It's a freaking Toynami recolor! They're repackaging something they already sell at a premium, in limited quantities, and at an exclusive event. Oh, and it probably comes with a certificate of authenticity or a portrait of Roy Foker by Tommy Yune to make it worth more on eBay.

EDIT: And you also get the Strike Pack for your trouble.

HG knows how to fool lunatics as I can see. <_< Fooling lunatics is not that hard when you are playing the "nostalgia" (aka an*l) card anyway.

  2. BUT, listen to the snippet of music from this section of Starship Troopers between 2:56 and 3:10

and THEN listen to this clip from Macross Zero episode one, specifically the section between 2:12 and 2:26

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ0Y4__04cI

Maybe its another generic music sample, but it is certainly NOT a coincidence.

That one was so obvious. So Macross is capable of ripping other shows as well ?:p But seriously guys, as much as I liked Macross Zero, the OVA was severely lacking in the music department ("Life Song" was the only good song in the two OSTs). The links you posted just proved it even more. <_<

  3. They could always pay the Japanese companies a huge sum to get around it, maybe even pay Mari Ijima to endorse it to get bigger sales in the country. Still, it could confuse the hell out of a lot of people.

The Republibot is also doing simultaneous reviews of each Macross/Robotech episode (dub tracks) at the moment. If you ever wanted to know the differences between the versions, this might help.

    http://republibot.com/category/tags/robotech

That guy reviews are great. B)) He can mention all the nonsenses of the robotech version. And God knows how they are a lot of them.

  4. A question regarding fold navigation : We do know ships need to have precise coordinates before making a fold otherwise the crew members are screwed (a defold in a planet atmosphere for example). So how ships are capable to obtain those precious precise coordinates if they are going in a uncharted region of the galaxy ?

  5. That episode IMO is one of the best of the non plot related episodes in both seasons.

The way I see it, she do all of it to prove Saito she REALLY is better than him. I mean, at the beginning of the episode he was the one on control of the situation, but only because Motoko was struck with a bunch of idiots (you can even count Batou on that group) and only she and Ishikawa being the ones capables to counter saito's moves

Then you must remember that Saito says that snipers are a valuable asset at the time, and the fact that all the section 9 has an unconditional allegiance to her. So, the best way to win Saito allegiance in that situation would be to force that one on one encounter and win it totally, disabling Saito's eye and hand.

I second that. The reason why the Major (too much respect to call her by her name) did not shoot at step 2 is due to the fact she knew all along that Saito will be too afraid to shoot her right away. Knowing this, the Major was playing with Saito's fear to keep f*cking with him.

For the simulation question, I guess that since Saito was sh*tting on himself he surely made mistakes when he was simulating the outcome of the battle.

  6. And no real insults to RTfanPlus himself here, but:

Yee-haw. That JamesBond77, what a superior intellect. Really makes his points with logic and reason, and makes Macross sound so inviting and wonderful. Calling everything that one dislikes "gay" or "homo" makes him sound NOTHING AT ALL like an irate 10-year-old, does it? <_<

If he's trying to speak for Macross fans, I wish he'd stop.

Sorry for the late answer Gubaba but JamesBond77 is not the only one doing this.

Read the comments of that video (yep, robotech fans stealing yet again macross vids <_< ) by yourself :

  7. Nothing to solve, really. Macross Ace is published under the umbrella of Gundam Ace, just as Zeta Gundam Ace was a few years ago. So technically, Macross Ace is a "Gundam Ace Special."

Do we really NEED more reminders that Macross will always be second banana..? <_<

Why are they doing this ? <_< Macross can't be popular of it own ?

  8. Don't confuse this as a live action DYRL?, they can derail Minmei's character to not make her a big part of the plot. The focus was always on the military and how brave and resilient they were against the odds. Minmei's just a footnote in history most people want forget in Robotech.

That's why I can picture the U.S. military using the movie as a propaganda tool since the only main character who did not kill a single person during the whole series will be cast aside like a piece of poo. <_<

  9. I think that writing this film would be the WORST possible job. Especially if HG has much input into what goes into the film. Then it has to get past the lawyers, etc. Do we know how much, if any input HG is going to have into this? I still wonder if the studio is aware of the complex legal situation surrounding this franchise. Probably not.

It will probably blow up in their faces when the movie is a few months away from being released (remember what happened to Watchmen), if the project gets that far, which I doubt.

Is anybody here familiar with the process that films go through when they are in scripting/development hell stages of production? How many people could have been assigned to this project already or would it just be the writer? When would the design work happen?

Sometimes I think that, as Macross fans, maybe we should be making more internet "noise" in other places such as youtube, to promote Macross and the fact that RT is a fake.

    Taksraven

For the past year on Youtube, two guys called 009FGH and JamesBond77 are doing what they can to inform people about the ripoff that is robotech.

Here JamesBond77 in action guys :

  10. It's still RPG info. ^_^

Yeah, I understand sir. The 1 lightyear every 6 minutes number is not canon but since the Macross creators themselves never said or wrote anything about the subject I think we should consider that number as a possible reference.

  11. How was that rate established? I don't believe I've ever read of any speed for fold travel being established and I can't recall a fan analysis on the subject.

SetoKaiba mentioned it during a debate on Robotech.com :

"(...)Unfortunately, Macross's creators have never really established how fast (in terms of distance vs time elapsed) a fold jump is.

Likewise, Robotech makes no declarations of how fast fold travel is, but since the depiction of fold travel has changed dramatically of late (from a Macross-style disappearance and reappearance into a generic warp drive effect) whatever definitions may have been previously made probably no longer apply.

If memory serves, the only source to touch on the subject is the Palladium RPG, which is not exactly reliable. I believe they gave "1 light year every six minutes" as the measure of fold velocity. This comes out to ~87,600 times the speed of light, a good deal faster than even the fastest warp drive velocities in Star Trek. It's an unofficial figure.

    (...)"

  12. That's a bit of a leap there.

Especially given the official description involves interdimensional travel, making it sound more like a conventional hyperspace drive.*

    http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Fold

There's also the episode where they steal the factory satellite, which establishes it takes an energy expenditure to leave fold space. Wormholes are open at both ends. You need energy to create and maintain the wormhole, but not to exit it.

poo. <_< My wormhole argument is completely destroyed.

If you mean what I think by "tunnel effect"(that the animation when they travel through fold space looks like they're flying through a tunnel), then that wasn't present in SDF Macross.

What folding has in common in the various series...es is faster-than-light travel.

Everything else is left vague, most likely intentionally.

It's also implied that fold space is "wrong" somehow. SDF used the wavering color separation effect to indicate fold space(except in the factory satellite theft, if I recall).

Frontier makes reference to fold sickness(maybe, sometimes), and re-invents the old visual separation effect.

Oh, and that specific fold drive failures leave behind a strange energy phenomenon that can be harnessed for the creation of a barrier system.

*Interestingly, several sci-fi stories with "conventional" hyperdrives describe a tunnel effect caused by the apparent elongation of the stars. Star Wars even illustrates it.

Which tells us is that there's a few different ways of folding/defolding, some of which are flashier than others.

    ...

Or, you know, that the animators bungled defold animations a lot and they're all supposed to be the "portal" type(assumed because the first examples are that type, and the first few episodes are of consistently decent animation{though not error-free}).

It's NOT established, but fortunately the effect makes sense anyways if you consider the "gate" to be a hole between the dimensions.

    Ask and ye shall receive.

My understanding is the fold drive moves a ship into another dimension, where the laws of phsyics are different, and moves the ship back to normal space at it's destination.

I starting to understand my mistake now : I thought the "tunnel effect was some of kind of wormhole when in reality the tunnel effect was a represention of the "4th dimension" or "super dimension space". I completely screwed up on this one. But that does not change my opinion since "fold in" and "fold out" are the facts of entering and exiting super dimension space. Creating a portal or a gate to go through another dimension makes more sense to me.

SDF has a few different fold animations. Sometimes the ships slide into/out of a fold "gate" and other times they appear/vanish.

Need to rewatch SDF Macross then.
