  1. I can't help but find you amusing because the mistakes adapting the books annoy you that much. Especially for someone who was/is on the RT.com's "techno babble noncontinuity" board and is still somewhat a fan of a show which is a poor adapation of what it's based on. I find it ironic.

Same thing could be said in return of many people here. We all have our likes and dislikes.

  2. have to disagree. I think TT was the best opening.

Heh....I think the opening was about the only thing in The Two Towers I didnt despise. The movie blew chunks on so many levels....the EE helped alleviate that somewhat....but only somewhat.

  3. But I still hold to my theory that the more rabid the fan, the more rabid the nitpick.

Without a doubt. I began picking it apart as soon as I was sufficiently away from my friends that swore the movies were better than than books (never mind the fact that none of them have read the novels past the first 2 chapters of Fellowship of the Ring). I have yet to truly be merciless in my review. I think where the movie series screwed the pooch was in The Two Towers. It deviated so much...and added so much useless crap that The Return of the King had to play catch up...causing many to feel that the ending was rushed.

  4. SPOILER

For those of you who thought Denethor's dementia was a little too extreme, there's a reason for this. Denethor hid away a palantir at the top of the tallest tower of Minas Tirith. Looking into it he was fed subtle information from Sauron and thus driven mad. I wonder if this was edited out as well.

That wasnt what got me. It was the fact that Citadel Guards of the Fountain did NOTHING to stop Gandalf from whacking Denethor. Im sorry...but Gandalf would never have done that sort of thing (he doesnt bully...he motivates...that is the true power of Narya: the Ring of Fire) and the Guards would NOT have stood by and watched that sort of exchange. Denethor was the Ruling Steward of Gondor. While he may not be a King....he rules in the Kings stead until he returns. That means that he is to be protected at all costs.

There were other problems...like Eowyn's clipped remarks to the Witch-King of Angmar (at least the cartoon version of The Return of the King managed to get most of this important speech...unlike the movie). All I have to say is that they had BETTER include The Houses of the Healing in the Extended Edition.

  5. Screw the Hobbit, I want to see a 4-hour adaptation of the Silmarilion.

Unlikely to happen unfortunately. The stories are too disjointed in many respects. It would work in an 8-hour+ mini-series.

As for Return of the King....for a movie...it was nice. Stunning visual effects...and yes....Im arachnaphobic...and Shelob scarred the poo out of me. And Miranda Otto is in it...a plus any time (screw Liv Tyler....I'd take Eowyn any day over Arwen). BTW...did anyone else think that maybe the two elves reforging Narsil into Anduril could be Elrond's twin son's Elladan and Elrohir? Anyone else notice the fat Rohirrim (Peter Jackson)?

For a Tolkien book....no thanks. Too many problems.

  6. Ive got the perfect spoliers...

    READ THE FRAGGING NOVELS!

I wanted to barf when the cast said they had to be tight lipped to not giveaway the plot. Give me a break. Even Sir Ian McKellan said "Just read the book!".

Now that Ive had my little rant...

Im mildly awaiting this movie. I think that PJ may have overdone things...especially with his estimate of Sauron unleashing a 1/4 of a million soldiers against Minas Tirith. More like 35,000 - 50,000. I will be completely annoyed if the rumours are true that Sauron and Aragorn face off in personal combat before the Morannon.

  7. In the first frame the perspective on that big green spaceship is all screwy.  :(

    Yea...

the scale seems to be off now that you mention it. The Garfish's are supposed to be 179m long. From the way it is drawn...looks more like 70m.

And yes..it is Lancer in the top frame (he's the one wearing CVR-3 and piloting an AF-03 Bat).

    Edit:

Added image of Garfish-class Light Cruiser with VF/A-6 Alpha for scale comparison. The AF-03 Bat should be about the same length as the Alpha....where as the Invid Scout with Booster is about half the length of the Alpha (and those Invid shouldnt have the booster anyways....they were launched from a troop carrier...but that is my anal retentive side coming out ;) ...which makes the Invid Scout less than half the length of an Alpha...closer to 1/3.)

  8. yah, and they choose to give their kids Looney Tunes toys, and have them watch Looney Tunes instead.

Nope...Looney Tunes is considered one of the most violent cartoons of all time. It hsa suffered immensely at the hands of the PC crowd. Stupid arseholes! People that write these sort of lists miss the point IMNSHO. Unfortunately, common sense seems to be lacking in this world of ours.

  9. your response is basically 'they're a corporation so just accept what ever they do and gosh darn it don't rock the boat'.

    sorry i don't accept that.

as a consumer we should make our concerns heard. it is far worse to not say anything and have companies believe what they're doing is the right thing.

Good God almighty. If you dont like it.....DONT BUY IT! That is how you, as a consumer, make them realise that its the wrong direction for them to take. I again will say that if they had done this at first, there would STILL be people screaming to have UNALTERED (dont snicker) Robotech. Not everything is a fragging conspiracy. Jesus...watch less of the X-Files.

  10. If you dont like it....dont get it.

Christ...if they had done this in the beginning...people would be screaming to have "Original Robotech" on DVD. Its the same as the people that want Original Star Wars on DVD minus the "Special Edition".

So what that HG said that they wouldnt do it? Its a corporation for crying out loud.

  11. Now that some of you have gotten a chance to see Super Dimensional Cavalry: Southern Cross...I wanted to update those of you that might care about toys. While it isnt much in the long run...I think that at least voicing your opinion for them is needed. I can now state that the petition for SC merchandise is now up to 174 signatures. I dont think that is too bad considering that I have no official support nor do I continually harangue people to sign.

Since Toynami is the ONLY ones who hold the worldwide SC toy license now...they are the only game in town. I for one don't give a rats arse whether they copy the old model designs or not to make Super Poseables. I simply want toys from the series that I love. Hopefully...some of you that love SC as well will come and sign this (even if we are spitting into the wind). See my sig for the link.

  12. Its from the animation materials for Robotech II: The Sentinels. That particular copy is from the Unofficial Robotech Reference Guide. The designation for it from the animation materials is the SDF-8 class ship. Unlikely that it will ever be seen again...though it could be used as an enemy ship if they ever decide to revisit the Pioneer Mission era again.

  13. We had this discussion over at Rt.com. Suffice to say, the post-Space War 1 UN Spacy will be able to wipe the floor with the Invid. Like in Robotech, the Zentraedi ships can bombard the planet from Lunar Orbit. That means alot because the Invid have no combat capital starships.

In Robotech, the Invid are scared sh%tless of the Masters (and would be scared of the Zentraedi by default). I dont see how it would be any different for Macross.

  14. I wonder how an Invid invasion would fair against the UN Spacy of 2038...

Given that the Invid have spit-ball range weaponry...not too well. The Invid actually never completely dominated the planet in Robotech....and it took them a long time to even achieve the modest level that they did...

The only reason that they sucessfully took over the Earth in Robotech is because the United Earth Forces (ASC and Pioneer/REF) had been mauled by the Masters. Bring them back in 2029 ahead of the Masters....and the Regiss would have been running like a bat out of hell.

  15. So we get to see HG's new Gamma fighter again, eh?

Unlikely...as the Gamma is supposed to be a new mecha by 2044 or so. We will likely see its preproduction predecessor...the AF-03 Bat. Will be interesting if we see the VF/B-5 Condor's in action (and whether or not they link to the AF-Bat like speculation has been leaning too). Those are AF-03 Bat's on the cover BTW.

This looks like it will be telling Lancer's story about the first real attempt by the Earth Reclamation Force's to land on Earth and dislodge the Invid. Hopefully...the story won't suck.
