  1. I like the theory that the Vajra are possibly constructs built by the Macross Galaxy fleet from samples of the AFOS. They go out of control or are deliberately unleashed and factions within the Macross Frontier fleet are trying to cover up the secret. The VF-27 uses technology derived from the Vajra experiements and the Vajra themselves are affected by music to a degree just like the AFOS was.

Or better yet, the Galaxy fleet picked up UN's failed bioweapons project and continue their research, and voila, we get the Vajra. :)

  2. yes you are exactly right, cheers.

can anyone explain why purple 1 can fly in and out of frontier without CIC knowing what is going on. Leon still do not know about purple 1, how can that be, he is at island 3 and walking around your island like nobody business. this is not plausible.

So in other word, it's myth busted? (Sorry, couldn't resist myself)

Back to topic... Well maybe VF-27 has a more advanced active stealth system that even the CIC couldn't detect it? And Leon definitely knew about the VF-27, since he's the one that order not to leak info about Alto's first encounter of VF-27 in episode 8. Maybe he pretend he didn't know about it?

  3. For those who support the Galaxy-Vajra conspiracy theory, here's an interesting post I write earlier in the episode 9 discussion thread:

Talks about Vajra-Galaxy conspiracy, guess what I found from Macross M3's page from Macross Compendium...

Features Regult, Glaug, Tomahawk, Defender, Phalanx, Gnerl, four new variable craft (VF-9, VF-14, VF-3000, Variable Graug) and entirely new concept mecha (U.N. insectoid bioweapons developed from Protoculture genetic technology and Zentradi final weapon with two different combining mecha modes depending on ending) (bold mine)

FYI, Dancing Skull squadron meet those things in 2022, and the earliest account of Vajra is on 2040.

  5. For the VF-1 Its was listed as some sort of fluid pulse actuator, MR. March could we get a confirmation?

Well, it's in the Macross Compendium: Link

For what is that "fluid pulse actuators" thing, I have no idea. Maybe it's just another variation of the hydraulic pistons, but with some improvements from OverTechnology?

  6. One bit I noticed though, the VF-0 uses a DYRL style side-stick and not the central stick and seems to lack the B-G-F transformation switches seen in the VF-1.

Well, I also notice that too, d3v. Seeing the nature of the VF-0 as the experimental plane, maybe VF-0 also wish to test the Block-6 cockpit to see if it's usable and more effective than the older cockpits (aka TV version cockpit) in real combat.

  7. Actually Morpheus, I think the "over 50 handles/knob/button/lever" sentence is an overstatement, as the cockpit itself don't seem to be as many handles/knob/button/lever as you think (to be precise, it's 3 handles+1 throttle, and an unknown amount of knob/button, but that's just because I'm lazy to count :p)

Compare it to the cockpit of the Block-6 VF-1:

For the more precise info about those pesky controls in Block-6 VF-1 and future VF, I think JBO explains it quite well. And yeah, the arms movements are a mystery and very hard to figure it out, but I think you can see how this topic go, as this topic also dealing with the same question you asked. :)

  8. Right stick controls weapons, the stick moves your cross hairs, buttons on the stick select what weapon you want, pull trigger to fire.

Just one correction: I do believe the button itself is the button to fire missiles, as shown in the opening battle of DYRL?, and the aiming is done using eyes alone, as shown in Macross Zero. And by pushing the tapets, you will able to fire the gunpod.

But otherwise, nice post! And before I forgot, welcome to MW, J.T. Silversmith! :)

  9. tankf77: Well, it's a debatable topic. Well it's known that VF-0 and VF-1 can use only use ECA in Battroid mode, there is not official information for the rest of variable fighters. BTW, there's a topic discussing the ECA itself, you might interest to check it out:

EDIT: Nay, even the nature of ECA in VF-1 is disputed. See the below link for more info.

  10. Well, speak of myself, I always prefer that a 25-episode (plus or minus 1) tv series works fine with me. I always felt Gundam 50-episode format sometimes give me the feeling that they spread the butter too thin ie. stretching the story for the sake of it and clip shows. And 13 episodes is really too short for to tell a good story, unless the director is a very good one. 25 episodes feels more moderate: not too short, but not too long. :)

  11. Talking about moving a VF, I always wonder how the pilot control the arms movement like Alto's valk grabbing Ranka with two hands? I mean, in that situation, you can hold Ranka with either a hand (Like Hikaru did to Mimmay in DYRL?)or two hands, so how pilots suppose to determine which methods to use?

  12. Well, oreillyrel, when you mean "I look forward to the Macross II corrections/retractions described above.", do you mean this?

Unfortunately, the Macross Mecha Manual does have RPG stats that aren't from official Japanese sources, and even mistakenly credits them as coming from official Japanese sources. For example, the Macross Mecha Manual lists the VF-2SS as "Fighter Mode: wingspan variable 7.9 meter to 12.2 meters; height 5.2 meters; length 15.8 meters" and claims this is "Translated information taken from Entertainment Bible #51." These are all RPG stats and not listed in Entertainment Bible #51. (bold mine)

Mm... First thing first, do you have EB #51 yourself? And do you found any other specs that really are RPG stats, such as the other stats for the VF-2SS (empty weight, power plant etc)? Trying to tell us more about this will help March and those working for the Compendium to improve their sites. :)

BTW, March, don't give up! I really like your site. :)

  13. Refer to the entry of Macropedia in Macross Mecha Manual:

    * Valkyrie

o The name for the first VF-1 variable fighter and adopted as a generic term to subsequently describe all the following variable fighters.

So yeah, it's still correct to call any variable fighter a Valkyrie, even if it's not VF-1. :)

EDIT: BTW, VF does stands for variable fighter, as shown in this entry at Macross Compendium.

For all newbies, I recommend both Macross Mecha Manual and Macross Compendium as the main web page to search when in doubt, as they offer a lot of information of the Macross franchise.

  14. Well, I recommend you to watch Macross Plus (available in OVA version and Movie version) if you haven't watch it. It's one of the best Macross show, if it wasn't the best. Also remember to see DYRL, the movie version (sort of) of the original series.

For Macross 7... While, some say it's ok, some hated it. Remember this, through, when you see Macross 7: it's basically a show about a J-pop singer who happens to ride a fancy valks. With that mentality, I sure you will enjoy Macross 7 more. :)
