  1. Though speaking of translations, I'll never understand Nagano's odd tendency to insert whole dialogues in other languages and insist they NOT be translated... including that segment on one planet during Aisha's vacation where everybody's speaking Chinese, or that big long monologue Lachesis has when she's addressing Dr. Morard for the first time, or that equally long interchange between F.U. Rogner and Bojasfort that I think is mainly in German...

Wow, is that mean Nagano knows multiple languages?

  2. Yeah, that's actually pretty good... I like that.

I keep wishing they'd do model kits for some of the lesser designs in the series, like the Empress Flame, the A-TOLL Scritti, and maybe the Trio de Colus's Berlins.

Well, I know someone posted a picture of a Berlin SR-2's kit earlier in that threat, but yeah, I share the same thinking with you.

BTW, do anyone ever seen Mirage S2 (aka Cloudsschätze)'s alt mode? I wonder how it looked like.

  3. Eh, let's be fair... the mechanical designs from Five Star Stories are considerably more complex, streamlined, and organic-looking designs than the early versions seen in Heavy Metal L.Gaim, which I suppose is fitting, as FSS is a more advanced setting, and the mecha are (in-universe) considered not just weapons of war, but individual works of art, and their complexity is such that some mortar headds do walk the line between simple robot and inorganic lifeform... like Amaterasu's first Knight of Gold, Colus XXIII's Junchoon, the Jagd Mirage "Green Dragon", and to a lesser extent, Alan Bradford's old MH Apache and the Terror Mirage he gets after (unwittingly) joining the Mirage Knights.

Ouch, I guess I use the wrong word. When I say 'glorified', I mean more beautiful, elegant, have more fantasy elements than SF, etc. Basically it's a praise. :)

  4. Now seeing the examples themselves, why I have a sudden feeling that FSS is the glorified version of L-Gaim? :p

Speaking of mecha design, it should note that most of Nagano's post L-Gaim design use 'movable frame' concept, basically just a skeleton with pieces of armor attached to it, which is an irony, seeing that Bandai's successful MG model kit line also use more and more of a very similiar concept when designing recent gunpla.

  5. Speaking of Heavy Metal L.Gaim... I ended up seeing it AFTER I first got into Five Star Stories, and boy was I ever amused by how many designs ended up getting reused between the two series, even under the same names.

Wow, really? Can you give an example? :)

  6. Yeah, GearsOnline is a good resource, though in some cases it's maddeningly incomplete. Once I've finished my work on Macross II and the whole alternate universe continuity, I'm seriously considering making a similar comprehensive reference guide for Five Star Stories.

If you want to catch the rest of the series, I know the English translations of Books I through X (Vol.1-26 I think) are available online thru torrent and RapidShare... I don't think anyone has ever finished translating Books XI and XII, but I know there's a translation of Prima Classe Hugtrang that was done a while back.

Yeah, I know what you means. I'm looking forward for your FSS project, especially when it comes to the MHs and Buster technology.

  7. I recently uploaded photos of my built and unbuilt MH kits to this flickr-album

    Nice Berlin SR2! :)

Seito Kaiba: Well, I can't really remember how I get to know FSS, but I think mostly because of Gears Online. I have read volume 1 and 2, but not the rest.

Speaking of FSS, I remember during one of my visit to my local bookstore, I happens to spot a Chinese FSS book. There's nothing much inside the book, which is basically a model kit catalog, and didn't buy it. Now it's gone from the bookstore, I suddenly think I'm being stupid for not buying such a rare book, especially about FSS which is not famous in my place. Regret my decision till this day. :(

  8. I love the comic deeply, although I've been getting frustrated over the past few years since it seems like Nagano's put the series on extended hiatus.

He's still got got A LOT of ground to cover if he wants to finish the story (I know, I know, the timeline is there so that he won't ever need to finish it...still, I'd like to see it done, even if it takes twenty more years).

Yeah, Nagano really likes to enjoy his life.

    :p

Well, at least there's the (expensive) models from Volks to look out for.

  9. Seeing Seto Kaiba's awesome Knight of Gold (KOG) avatar, I wonder if anyone here at MacrossWorld Forum that are fans of Five Star Stories? The mecha design is simply awesome and beautiful. My favourite one are KOG and LED Mirage, although the Engage series is a close second.

  10. And just what's wrong with polygamy anyway. If it was legal, I'd be up for it!

    Graham

Ask any woman about it, and you would get the answer. :p

Back on topic, I'm glad we finally solve this mystery. Kudos to Gubaba for his hard work.

  11. I don't know... In a certain extent, ALL anime (and ALL story) is predictable, and I like it that way. I mean, I would be shocked if one day I picked up an anime named Macross, and tada, there's no more ridiculous robots or planes, no more annoying girls singing even more annoying songs, and no 'heck-quickly-pick-your-choice-and-get-over-with-it-you-moron' love triangle, and instead replaced by some soap drama. I would toss it into the bin and say: 'You damn cheater! Are you insulting my intelligence?! That's no Macross, damn it, no Macross!'

Besides, I saw even more real people doing more things that really insults my intelligence than most anime did. :p
