  1. First I had Jetfire... many, many years were passed with just my imagination substituting Jetfire for Skull-1.

Then came the Joon's valks... I had the Millia and Hikaru 1J's. And that godawful Red, White, and Blue valk.

Then came bootleg Bandai Mac 7 valks.

    Then came Yamato's YF-22 & VF-11.

Then came the incredible Bandai reissues and Yamato 1/60 & 1/48's.

It's a good progression... each one better than the last. Except for Jetfire, who still has a place near and dear to a brother's heart.

  2. I dunno...

I'm still not sold of the fact that we need another Superman movie. The Christopher Reve version isn't that old. Besides I think it is kind of disrespectfull to him, at least wait till he dies. As long as he is alive he shouldn't be known as the "guy who WAS Superman," he should just be called "Superman."

Hee... but saying "let's wait 'til he dies" is respectful? ;)

Seriously, the better a director they can put on the project and the less "marketing" the producers and studio can try to force into the flick... the better the movie will be.

Personally, I'd love to see M. Night do a Superman flick, but I don't think it's likely. He seems to be having plenty of success doing what he's doing... why take a chance at pissing off a million Superman fans?

  3. For me, the nostalgic and personal value of finally having a VF-1D toy would normally be my hands down pick.

But it's hard to deny that of the 1/60 valks I've bought than any of them were as well made and just plain perfect as the VF-1J Super. It just seems like Yamato did their best job on that one.

  4. Eva 01 head with a poorly executed Eva 02 color scheme...

If this were packaged as SUPER ROBOT GENESIS FIGHTER, it'd be a funny bootleg toy.

The fact that Marvel comics, the "House of Ideas", has sunk to this is pretty pathetic.

Still, who knew that mutants were hunted by robots piloted by whiny kids with serious parental issues.

  5. Not trying to stir up trouble, really I am not. I just want to ask a question. Since both wrylac and bok are back, would you consider letting SkullyGR back for at least a trial period? :) Although yes there was some trouble, there were several times when he DID contribute some valuable info to MW...and I for one miss hearing from him and reading his insights! Just wondering...

    Thanks,

    Melissa

    Dear god no....

Were things just too quiet and easygoing for the last few months or something?

I must have missed those insights inbetween all of his conisistent bitching and warmongering.

Either way, I say we keep things as they were right before the new board. It's been a happy place and time.

Except for the Major's strange obsession with the "edit" feature, of course. That's just unnatural. :p

  6. Hmmm... the most I've spent on an anime product?

Probably would be $160 for the Bandai Max and Millia

    or $135 for the VF-1S 1/48.

The most I've spent on a hobby? Definitely guitars.

    My upright bass- $2000

    My electric bass- $1850

    My acoustic guitar- $1200

Not to mention loads on P.A, etc...

Music is expensive, don't let no one tell you otherwise. ;)

  7. I know it's geeky as hell... but I'm tempted to do it. Reminds of being a kid when me and my brother would watch our poor quality dubbed StarWars trilogy VHS tapes all in one night.

It's not my ass that hurts thinking about doing something like spending 10 hours watching LoTR, it's my schedule... how the hell do I alot that amount of time to anything other than a road trip?

  8. You can get them for far cheaper than $100, but I digress.

    Link? :D

I find it hard to believe you've never heard of HLJ, Greenguy.

You can get the SOC EVA for waaay less than $100 there.

KingNor - As for the Kaiyodo EVAs... all of the figures "go" together, ie - they are the same scale and all have dynamic sculpts, but these are just the most recent two, being from the movie. The largest difference between this EVA 02 and the previous one is the paint colors, followed by the different sculpt.

I think if you picked up any of Kaiyodo's previously released EVA figs, you'd enjoy them. I love mine. Go on ebay and search "kaiyodo eva" - you'll find plenty to think about.

The Kaiyodo's were cool, but the SOC EVAs that Bandai is putting out are far, far, far superior. Definitely worth the bucks.

  9. OK, I revoke my reserved reaction from yesterday. That Prime is just goddamn horrible. And I like fat robots. I'm really not looking forward to seeing Energon toys in the store. I hope they don't get stacked too close to the Alternators, they'll probably emanate some sort of taint.

Are you admitting to being a chubby chaser, Eriku? :p

Seriously... that is a pathetic-assed Optimus. He looks like he's been chilling on the couch knockin' back Stroh's for the last 20 years or so and getting larger everyday. He's Middle-aged Prime!

Bring on the 20th Anniversary Prime and let's pretend this one doesn't exist.

  10. woah...do you realide this is the second thread we've hijacked this morning?

Yeah... better get in back on topic before the mods crack down on us.

Yeah.... Tommy Yune style is improving.... as long as he doesn't try to copy already existing styles. <_<

Everyone copies existing styles. For example everyone in american comics "borrows" heavily from Jack Kirby, etc.

Tommy "Studio" Yune is getting better. It'll will be true evolution if he begins to actually distinguish himself from all of the other "anime-like" U.S. artists and develop a style that is unique to himself, while still showing where he got his influences.

    But progress is progress.

Now someone kill this useless, misnamed, and unwanted thread. B)

  11. Bought them online and from other MacrossWorld members in the For Sale section of the board.

    Online stores -

Blastotoys.com - great prices, great service, great guy

    Valkyrie-exchange.com - same as above

Bigbadtoystore.com - good store, very reliable

hlj.com - the bomb, but the shipping/waiting is a bit weird and stressy

ebay.com - be careful, but keep your eyes open for some really killer deals

  12. My first Yamato was the VF-21. I saw the prototypes at the San Diego Comic Con and talked to the Toycom folks who promised me that if the Mac Plus valks sold well, they would make a VF-1 next. I had all three Toycom valks on preorder through Robozone... then all the crap started and I eventually got reimbursed since the toys were apparently never coming out. I never even considered importing them. I didn't even know you could.

Some time went by and I saw some import VF-21s for sale and I bought one. Loved it. Started lurking at Macrossworld. Bought the VF-11. Was scared to death of it. Bandai, Yamato, and Toynami all announce plans to make a VF-1. I start posting at Macrossworld.

And here we are. I never got a YF-19 because I thought the originals were overpriced by the time I started collecting and I've never been a fan of the baby blue VF-19A version.

I've Yamato stuff on preorder all over the place... but I still want them to put out another YF-19, dangit. ;)

  13. I don't have the connection to watch the trailer, but I hope Persephone shows up again. She's so cute.

Sweet, sweet Monica Bellucci (Persephone) is definitely in the trailer. And she's definitely still very hot.

Go rent Brotherhood of the Wolf if you want to see more (an awful lot more, if you know what I mean... she's very naked) of her.

I dug Reloaded, but I didn't enjoy the cliffhanger ending or the lack of fulfillment on Neo's speech at the end of the first movie. I'm hoping this one will totally redeem it for me. The trailer looks great.

    POTENTIAL SPOILER -

Am I wrong or is that Joe Pantaliano (Cipher) opening his eyes, laying down, in the trailer? It's a close up and it happens during the first flashing images?

It would be interesting to see how they bring him back.

  14. It's a neat toy and all but Yamato has not produced it so far and I'm thinking they won't make it at all. Much like some people have said in the past, Yamato likes to get as much milage out of their molds as possible so the one-off GBP may have to wait until they can afford to make it all by it's lonesome.

Ah... but what you (and possibly Yamato) is missing is that they've sold buttloads of 1/48 valkyries and even more buttloads of 1/60 valkyries... so there are potentially several buttloads worth of customers out there. So that one (or two if they made 1/60 and 1/48) mold could potentially sell better than any single mold has done thus far, except the VF-1 mold. And with the far less moving parts involved (ie - no transformation) the mold shouldn't be nearly as complex to pull off.

Any Yamato valk owner would most likely buy one. Many would buy more than one. That's good math for a toy accessory.

Which brings me to my point about why GBP armor is cool. Aside from all of PC Valkyrie's original points, is that the GBP brings an additional amount of fun and play to the VF-1 toy. Just like the FAST packs do. Sure, I've got a 1/60 VF-1D, but my favorite thing is to have it steal the FAST packs from the 1J so I can "upgrade" to a more badass VF-1D. And with GBP armor, there's an awful lot of "badass". It just makes the toys more fun, regardless of how long it spent in the show, or how useless Hikaru was in using it.

It looks cool and any VF-1 valk can wear it. It's the perfect accessory toy. Personally, I'd buy at least a few if Yamato were to start making them. And as fan-oriented as they are, I believe it's only a matter of time before we see them come along.

  15. Lessee... my mom named me Blaine - so I'm stuck with that.

My lucky number is 23 and I tattooed it on my leg after a long night of drinking - so I'm stuck with that.

Really I have no other options. :p

BTW - Good to see everybody back, particularly the long-missing Yoshi. This new board is way groovy.

  16. Just for my info, what improvements over the original 1A (beyond the head...) are included with this?

Well obviously there will be the improved nosecone and flaps, first introduced on the Max 1/48.

I'm sure we'll also see the improved 90 degree capable elbow joint, and redesigned easier opening front landing gear doors introduced on the Low-Vis as well.

I'm not sure what other improvements we will see, if any. I was hoping for painted panel lines and optional swapable hands, but it doesn't seem like we are getting those.

    Graham

As much as I like the idea of more panel lines and such, I'd happily buy this toy if it was the exact same as the Hikaru 1A release.

I think it's great that Yamato's putting it out there. 'Bout time, really.

And as far as the head's panel seam goes... it really looks much worse in pictures, I can barely even notice mine on my Focker 1S.

  17. I dunno... I always considered the 1A to be most obvious choice for the brown bandit. It's just so generic and perfect for the name "cannon fodder".

I was under the impression that the cannon fodder 1J was an Animefriend invention.

  18. Typical "HK" bootlegs are a grey area in the states as most of the time they feature their own "special" subtitles and they don't rip off someone else's hard work... but the english dubbed R1 ripped bootlegs are 100%... how do our friends ze germans say it... shtolen.

R1 release houses pay good money to license the show, bring it over, translate it, hire out a voice cast and pay for studio time, remix the audio and repackage the show in a dubbed format. Bootleggers are just ripping the discs and inserting their own logo over or in front of the legitamate ones. Now... you could also say that the boots are basically doing the same things to the original properties already... and they are. But to the american legal system they are not taking that "final step" into illegality: they are not directly copying and redistributing a licensed property. Now they are. Any time you see a boot featuring english dubbing it is most likely a rip of the R1 release... and now it has entered a definate legal state of "bad" in the US. These boots are copies of domestic properties and are subject to all the wrath of our legal system that some of their grey area brothers are not.

This discussion... been there... done that... bought the T-shirt.

The fact is that it's all illegal and unethical. The other fact is that it is the property owner (and licensor) who should bear the burden of bringing that long arm of the law down on the HK folks. I only get PO'd when they try to tell the fans that they shouldn't support HK discs. If they want the problem to stop, they need to start prosecuting.

  19. I think some people need to accept the fact that Yamato clearly hates them, and produces cetain variants just to spite them.

I heard that Yamato was also known to sneak over to those peoples' houses and steal all their beer. :p
