  1. The box is big... but it really doesn't matter much to me. I whip out the toy and store the box in the attic with all of the other giant boxes. ;)

Man, that helmet is sweet... but I think I'd rather save that cash to buy the new driveway. Owning a house is just like collecting expensive toys all the time.

  2. I always thought that the "scouring" bit was really anti-climactic. It's been over a decade since I read LOTR, but I recall Saruman was nearly reduced to the level of a Scooby Doo villain, which wasn't really a satisfactory end for a character of his (former) stature.

I for one won't miss the scouring.

"And I would have gotten away with it, too! If it hadn't have been for you meddling hobbitts!" :p

Agreed. The whole "Sharkey" bit was out of place, IMHO. Still it was nice seeing the former most powerful wizard in Middle-Earth get trounced by a bunch of wee peoples.

The movie should really peak at Mount Doom and wrap up with the ships leaving for distant shores.

  3. Like I said before, Peter Jackson is going to make the movie he is going to make and his instincts have been dead on thus far, in my opinion (and most of the audience opinion - judging by the grosses of the previous films).

Here is a statement he made to Aint It Cool news -

Saruman thing you describe is a muddle of half-truths.

We have decided to save the Saruman sequence for the DVD. It's a great little scene. 7 mins long. Chris is wonderful, as usual. Brad is in about 6 shots. It was a film maker decision - nothing to do with the studio.

The problem is that the sequence was originally shot for The Two Towers, as it is in the book. Since The Two Towers couldn't sustain a 7 min "wrap" after Helm's Deep, we thought it would be a good idea to save it for the beginning of the Return of the King. The trouble is, when we viewed various ROTK cuts over the last few weeks, it feels like the first scenes are wrapping last year's movie, instead of starting the new one. We felt it got ROTK off to an uncertain beginning, since Saruman plays no role in the events of ROTK (we don't have the Scouring later, as the book does), yet we dwell in Isengard for quite a long time before our new story kicks off.

We reluctantly made the decision to save this sequence for the DVD. The choice was made on the basis that most people will assume that Saruman was vanquished by the Helm's Deep events, and Ent attack. We can now crack straight into setting up the narrative tension of ROTK, which features Sauron as the villian.

It was a very similar situation to last year when we decided to take a nice Boromir/Denethor flashback out of The Two Towers, and put it in the DVD. It was causing us pacing problems in the theatrical version, but with the Extended Cut just coming out now, fans can see this great little scene. Thank God for DVD, since it does mean that a version of the movie, which has different pacing requirements, can be released later. The Saruman sequence will definately be a highlight of the Extended ROTK DVD.

We have a lot of great DVD material this time around. As we crafted the movie, we reduced it from an over 4 hour running time, down to 3.12 (without credits - about 8 mins long). This was done by us. There were no studio cutting notes. We now have a movie with a pace that fells ok for it's theatrical release. One more week to go. We are nearly there. Will we still be standing? It's going to be a close run thing.

    Cheers,

    Peter J

I dunno, it makes perfect sense to me. Those who don't like changes made to the movie from the books should probably just stick to reading the books, since they'll never be happy anyway.

  4. I love the show... still don't know where the hell they're going with it.

I stared recording this one and the repeats of the first season of The Wire about the same time.

All I know is that HBO rocks and The Wire may be my new favorite show ever.

  5. Big whoop... I agree with Jackson. It doesn't fit well with the movie, so it doesn't need to be in the movie. The same thing goes for everything he's cut out thus far.

And trust me... capitalism is MUCH more concerned with movie ticket sales than DVD sales. Just like the movie studios themselves.

  6. Isn't the low viz an invention? hehehe. Well, at  least i'm planning on getting it.

WOAH! EVERYBODY STOP! HEY! Let's REWIND back a bit here. THE VF-1A Low Viz is an invention and WILL NOT appear in Macross Zero? I was made to understand that it was! Someone sort me out!

    Ok. I'll straighten you out.

The Low Viz began as a custom toy, then Yamato liked it, several fans liked it. So Yamato made one and sold it. Kawamori said he liked it quite a bit.

All the speculation that the Low Viz will appear in Macross Zero is just that. Speculation.

There are no promises that it will appear in M0... thus, it is officially (as of this point) non-canon.

As far as calling it an "invention" to be praised - if one considered a paint job as drastically different where a new head sculpt isn't... you folks are silly.

  7. I like the Low Vis box best, but that box is just too much of an eye catcher.

I wish they bring back the classic black box. That is eleganice in simplicity.

Agreed... when the black 1/48 box came out it was right after we'd had a HUGE discussion about the MPC box and great toy boxes in general.

The black 1/48 box is simple and timeless. It reminds me of a favorite toy box we'd mentioned, the Dougram. It's just classic, y'all.

But the new ones are nice too, I just think they're trendier. Too photoshoppy.

  8. Looks great... now to figure out how to squeeze this one and the VF-1J w/FP in to my budget and we'll be set.

And folks, quit whining about it being just a different head. This is Macross, this is a VF-1, this should all be no surprise to anyone with any familiarity with the series or the designs.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

  9. Gee, I think I would prefer it if Yamato made canon Macross VF 1 valks (TV & DYRL) instead. But then again, I'm not a fan of the Low Viz 1A, so no surprise there.

    Wouldn't you much rather have a VF-1D, VT-1, VE-1, Canon Fodder, Max 1S, Max & Millia 1J's, etc, etc..

    I know I would.

  10. That font seems rather generic... just make sure you use the Stroke Layer Effect (I'm assuming you're using Photoshop), set it to white, exterior, and play with the width until it looks right.

Good luck, I'd like to see it finished. This might be a better question to ask in the FanWorks section - lots of good graphic advice there.

  11. The Ring was good. I didn't really care for the Japanese version and it's sequels, it just didn't make sense. Sadako in acting school???

Word to that. Just because it's the "original", doesn't necessarily make it better. To me, The Ring (american) was far better than Ringu. And the Ringu sequels were even worse.

Curious to see the Eye, though. Somebody give us a MW review.

  12. Sorry to hear about that, Kanata.

I understand how it is to love someone with a drug addiction - I've had years of it with my only brother.

Good luck and try to think positive about the future.

  13. I've heard that the unrated CA Full Throttle is just a few secs longer of Drew Barrymore getting beat up...dissapointing.

Heh... That almost sounds worth it. If it were only real.

Sorry, I hate that lisping moron. "Girlth, we can do ANYTHING! We're Charlie'th Angelth!"
