Display Your Collections...
emerson replied to bryan_f_davis@yahoo.com's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Thanks, everyone! One of these days I'll get everything into some proper display cases, but for now, just the Godaikins/Chogokins/Daigokins are ensconced in glass... Cube, Sithlord...YOUR collections are the ones to envy. Where did you guys get your display cases? -
I have both #12 and #22 available if you're still looking. Thanks!

Something a little different just to switch it up a bit. Sorry, no Macross stuff here. Macross and the rest of my collection are all about 100 miles from here. This is just the stuff I have space for in my little one bedroom haha. -
Ok, great. That's what I thought. Thanks!

Having another brain fart today. Years ago, I sold off my 1/72 VF-11B in favor of the FAST-packed version that came out a little bit later. What I'm struggling to remember was how many versions of the original, sans-FAST pack VF-11B were released. Were there two, with the second addressing the broken hip situation? And if so, did the packaging have a sticker explicitly denoting that it was a Version 2.0? (Similar to the way the 1/72 YF-19 packaging designated version numbers...) Thanks!

This guy is GREAT. Drop him a line. http://tokyohunter.blogspot.com/

Great, thanks Drifand. I remember reading an old post of yours where you stated Orguss was perhaps one of your first first mecha loves, so I had a feeling you'd emerge to address my query! I guess the smooth box is a very tangible manifestation of Takatoku's declining fortunes in the early 80's, and in that sense a bittersweet piece of history.
-
Temporarily derailing the current topic (apologies all around) to get back to the original topic regarding vintage Orguss toys... Random question: For those in the know, does the 1/40 Nikick MBG-24A only come in a "smooth" box, as opposed to the "textured" box all the other Takatoku Orguss (not to mention Macross Valk) toys come in? I've yet to see one in a textured box, so am just curious.

Hey, Gene. Yea, I remember you buying up tons of customs back in the day! Most of these customs were from the pre-Bandai-reissue days, except the Max & Miriya which were done the year the reissues came out....back when just getting a dirty Jetfire on eBay to ship to a customizer for their conversion cost about $150. Crazy times. I love all the new Macross stuff being released these days, but there is some loss of the charm that characterized our cozy, little hobby back in the day. It was something special to see pics of one of Jung's one-of-a-kind customs, or some pristine vintage Taka someone dug up in a Mandarake. It felt a bit more, well, "underground" haha. I don't exactly get psyched seeing pics of someone's 1/48....I mean, who here doesn't have at least 1, or 10?
-
Due to popular demand, all the dirt on the Kakizaki: 1) Jetfire body, with Takatoku VF-1J nosecone and Takatoku VF-1A head with extended head laser 2) Jetfire FAST packs with Kotobukiya vernier boosters added 3) Robert Fuch's super poseable hip and knee joints 4) Jason Pi's ankle mechanism 5) Rob Beer's custom crystal clear canopy 6) Portions of a Hasegawa weapons set 7) Richard Kim's custom heatshield and retractable tri-barrel GU-11 gunpod All parts disassembled, soaked in warm soapy water, cleaned, dried, primed, painted, detailed, and clear-coated. By the way, I completely brain-farted when trying to recall not only all the features in this custom, but also how much I paid for all the parts and labor. I was able to track down an old file that I maintained precisely in the event of such brain-farting, hence the new details above. It also reminded me that I paid exactly $480 for the custom. As such, I unfortunately need to raise my asking price to $275, which basically covers just the parts that went into this....Thanks for all the inquiries!

PM'ed you both back!

The DYRL Super Kakizaki is definitely for sale. Among other custom paint and features, it's got Kotobukiya verniers on the Super armor, custom heatshield, and Fulcy's custom hips and feet for an enhanced "A" stance in battroid and gerwalk mode. By Rick the Hunter, one of the OG member of these boards, back in the day. Asking $125 for that one.

It turns out I will need to be travelling through mid-March, so I will post pics then. Apologies for the delay.

Oh yea, I forgot about this old, crappy pic sitting in my hard drive....just to give you a sense:

Sent you an email!

I am out of town at the moment, but will snap some pics next weekend if there's enough genuine interest. I have no delusions of recouping what I paid for each of these (including the cost of the Jetfires, plus all custom parts, plus labor) at the market prices prevailing before the advent of the Yamato 1/48 valk, so if I sell these the pricing will be fair.
-
I actually have 7 custom 1/55 valks (6 by Jung Chao, and 1 by Rick Kim) that I am considering selling...all fully loaded with custom parts.....heads, nosecones, hips, feet, hands with articulated fingers, verniers, custom gunpods...weathered paint jobs, all with Super and/or Strike armor (the latter with custom Strike cannons). I don't have any pictures, as I haven't quite made up my mind yet, but I think you all know the quality of Jung's work... Funny story. A few years back (I want to say circa summer 2001), I had commissioned Jung to make a Super VF-1J in TV Miriya paint scheme, that I would then pay for and pick up at the MW Convention in Los Angeles. When I met up with him at the convention, he told me there had been a "Change in plans, sorry..." because he'd run into Shoji Kawamori at AnimeExpo in San Diego (happening concurrently), and that he'd autographed my Miriya custom! Too much greatness to give away, so he promised to make me another one. He went on to enter the custom in the MW Convention custom toy contest and, as usual, won hands down. (Those pics used to be hosted somewhere on the web, but don't think so anymore.) Anyway, a few weeks later, I received the Miriya, as well as a TV 1J Max to go along with her, which he assured was "even better than the Miriya." These two promptly went onto the shelf next to the DYRL Strike VF-1S Trio (Roy, Hikaru, Max) that Jerry Tsai (VF1X) once proudly owned and showed off on his old website. And a VF-1D with Super armor as well. Long story short...all beautfiful, one-of-a-kind stuff, with interesting history, crafted by the OG master customizer. Potentially all for sale, unfortunately for me. So just trying to gauge interest....thanks!

I've got a bunch of loose, extra cards...I am travelling at the moment, but will check for you early next week.

Nevermind, answered my own question....Man, those look nice. http://www.g-system-shop.com/cp-zlk/mob/Mob-35.htm
-
Thanks, Major Tom! Those G-System busts look great, but the price has always left me a bit cold on these. Some great pics over in a recent thread at ToyboxDX are making me reconsider though...Very tempting. What do you think of these? Worth the price? Do you have a list of which busts have been released thus far?

The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
emerson replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Kotobukiya released a set of Gunbuster trading figures in 2004 under their One Coin Figure Series. Check Noriko Takaya's signature for pics of box and toys in the Gunbuster Index. I have the RX-7 Noriko, RX-7 Kazumi and Sizzler Black, and think they're great little figures. They look great displayed next to the SOC Gunbuster. Besides, I think they're pretty much the only toy representations of these mecha that you're ever to likely see. I used to have the Gunbuster as well, but sold it. With the SOC on the market, I just didn't see the point... -
Yea, shipping for the jumbos is pretty expensive, as it's heavy too. According to HLJ, box size and weight are: 61.4 x 36.5 x 23.5 cm/3600g. Note that this is the second, "Marking Type" version, and not the first non-marking version. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN938531. Personally, I prefer the original. As for the Sazabi, not sure about scale. 1/60ish? It's part of the DX MSiA line that was repackaged for sale here in the U.S., though I purchased the Japanese-boxed version from a seller in HK back in the day. Same one here: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN908095. There were also Nu-Gundam, GP01FB and GP02 releases in the line, as well as comparable DX Shining Gundam and Dragon Gundam toys. You can see the Nu-Gundam in the above pic, sans the fin fannels.
-
Yea, they're gigantic. And heavy! They may have practically no articulation, but since I don't play with my toys, I only require that they look good haha. The 1/144 figures (Gundam FIX, Kado Senshi, etc.) come up to the ankles of the Jumbo Grades. But beyond their size, they're also beautifully sculpted, painted and weathered. Super solid display pieces.
