1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
Toboro replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Was there this much excitement on the board when the 1/48th scale was announced? The original 1/60th? Honestly, maybe it's the completist in me but it is hard for me to get excited about this new line when they didn't even finish the old one. If they had done some two seaters or even the cartoon color variations without the two seaters then I would probably be more excited about this. Why the hell would I support a new scale line when there is no way to know if they will finish it or not. Yamato has gotten enough of my money for a half complete line, why should I shell out even more for a line they will most likely stop supporting (lose interest in) in a few years. Everyone seems really positive and optimistic on this but I find it hard to even think about adopting this new line until it's way closer to completion or at the very least halfway there. Yamato should put out a release date list, it wouldn't have to be set in stone. It could just show the order they plan on releasing the versions and a rough outline of how often. Show what ones they even had intentions of making. That would give me a little more incentive to pick some up. Either way, I think I will pass for now. At least that will let me sit back and watch all the bugs get ironed out before I put anymore money in their pockets. I'm just suprised more people on here aren't a little more jaded and a lot more skeptical about Yamato's plans. -

Macross World Con 2008 Tentative Dates
Toboro replied to KiriK's topic in Conventions and Local Gatherings
SDCC is a blast. I always say anyone can go and have fun, and everyone should go at least once. Last year was my final one though. It's become to big for it's own good. They are definitely moving comics and merchandise to the back of their priority list and ramping up movie premieres and hollywood celebs. In the next few years we will most likely see less comic related movies but I am not sure that will change what has already happened to SDCC. Much like how cartoon network shows live action and MTV doesn't show music.... San Diego COMIC con just really isn't about the comics anymore. Last year was my 11th year. I've seen it grow from around 20-30k all the way to 120 k or whatever it was last year. It was nice that my final one was my son's first though, and hey he totally got to meet a Suicide Girl. Dude is such a mack for a 1 year old. -
Right! What's the Macross ppls getting for Christmas?! Do
Toboro replied to ruskiiVFaussie's topic in Toys
Wife bought me the vf1s and 1a revoltech and the Anniversary set from Valk Exchange. Won't see that til next year but I have a very sneaky suspicion that she also got me the VF1J max (for my vf1d custom) and the 1/100 Monster. All in all it should be a rockin christmas in our household. Especially if I finish the two customs I am currently working on, this weekend. -

Thanks, look for more soon. As soon as we are through the holidays I should have some time to wrap up some customs and post some pics of all my new loot. I need to order a new Detolf as I have almost completely run out of room. I already had to move my alternators and masterpiece transformers out. -
I'm working on two right now. The Hikaru VF 1S is the best valk to start with, although the roy works as well. When painting you will need to at least rough up the surface of the tampo printing as the paint doesn't like to adhere as much to that. I suggest krylon fuzion safety red/ red pepper, Wal mart carries it. I'm doing two at the same time so that I can sell one to pay for the other.

Actually in the process of making my VR 1D as well. Nice to see another one out there.

I saw one at Frank and sons this weekend for 250 I think. Treasure Island were the ones selling it. You might want to check them out on eBay or through their site. TISINC is what they go by on ebay but I'm not sure what their online site is. Someone on here can tell you I'm sure.

For the heatshield I would suggest sanding behind it with a fine grit paper to remove the paint then wetsanding it to remove and scratches and painting that. For paints I've used Krylon Fusion on my customs with the best results. Other paints I used tended to chip a ton.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?q...rty=MetaEndSort There is a link to an ebay decal search, I know it's in 1/48th but there are a ton to choose from. I've run across the red star ones on there many times. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?q...rty=MetaEndSort There is a link to the 1 60th scale decals. Not as many to choose from but you might find something.

I don't have working knowledge of the program you are using however there is a chance this might help you. If it has a luma keyer you might want to try that. Since there is now color in the BG a chroma keyer may not work as well. A luma keyer is made just for that. You can invert the matte that comes out of it. If not then you might want to see if the program has any roto tools. If it does then all you have to do is make a spline shape and animate that throughout the shot. It really isn't as hard as it might seem. With a ship or something that is not organic half the time you only need keyframes on every 40 frames or so. It is much more monotonous on organic shapes. I was a compositor on over 20 films and did roto for quite a few of them. Most of the work I did had key pulling of some type.

Nintendo won't drop the price of the Wii because it knows they are kicking everyones ass right now. You can go into any store and find PS3 and 360 but only some of them have Wii's and they are constantly running out and having to get more. Most places I go have tons of other consoles on the shelf. Why lower your price when you can't even keep them in stock at the price they are at?

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Toboro replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Also, if you are using photoshop. Set the Line layer to Multiply and only use blacks because white won't show. When you draw the lines, use the brush and click at one edge, then go to the next while holding shift and click again. This will give you a perfectly straight line. Do all your coloring underneath this. It helps to take areas and do them in seperate colors with the pencil tool, this way you can easily select them again with the magic wand. Then on another layer do your actual coloring and on top of this layer do your shading using black and white with the layer set to overlay or soft light. This is an easy enough way for you to paint things like this. So you know that I know what I am talking about you can see some of my work at www.tobynewell.com -
I had a PS3 about a month or two after they came out. Didn't like it so I eBayed it and kept my wii and 360 elite. I still like the 360 more then the ps3 and think HD DVD is a much better format. Not big on supporting BluRay since it uses such old codecs and isn't quite as crisp as HD DVD.

Of course there is always the most basic obvious ones like to finish the 1/48 valk line, not just the VE, 1D, and VT but also just to do the final repaints they are missing. And it'd be nice if they made a generic flat-painted VF with all the heads, hands, pilots, fastpacks and a huge array of decals so that the customizers would have a great place to start. I'm sure many of us would pay a premium so that we would not have to buy two Valks to get what we want for one custom. Or to be able to have a valk you can just add on when you customize and not have to prep and remove paint deco from.

Since 1/48 destroids have been listed multiple times 1/48 Hands, Heads and pilots pack that has one of every head, a bunch of hands and some pilot variations cast in whatever characters' colors 1/48 Enemy Mecha 1/48 vehicles with accessory characters and equipment

Man, that surprised the hell out of me. All of our major stores around here have more then their fair share of any of the major consoles.
