  1. Nintendo won't drop the price of the Wii because it knows they are kicking everyones ass right now. You can go into any store and find PS3 and 360 but only some of them have Wii's and they are constantly running out and having to get more. Most places I go have tons of other consoles on the shelf. Why lower your price when you can't even keep them in stock at the price they are at?
  2. 1 48th scale zentraedi poseable figures. 1 60th VF0 reactive armor
  3. Also, if you are using photoshop. Set the Line layer to Multiply and only use blacks because white won't show. When you draw the lines, use the brush and click at one edge, then go to the next while holding shift and click again. This will give you a perfectly straight line. Do all your coloring underneath this. It helps to take areas and do them in seperate colors with the pencil tool, this way you can easily select them again with the magic wand. Then on another layer do your actual coloring and on top of this layer do your shading using black and white with the layer set to overlay or soft light. This is an easy enough way for you to paint things like this. So you know that I know what I am talking about you can see some of my work at www.tobynewell.com
  4. I had a PS3 about a month or two after they came out. Didn't like it so I eBayed it and kept my wii and 360 elite. I still like the 360 more then the ps3 and think HD DVD is a much better format. Not big on supporting BluRay since it uses such old codecs and isn't quite as crisp as HD DVD.
  5. Of course there is always the most basic obvious ones like to finish the 1/48 valk line, not just the VE, 1D, and VT but also just to do the final repaints they are missing. And it'd be nice if they made a generic flat-painted VF with all the heads, hands, pilots, fastpacks and a huge array of decals so that the customizers would have a great place to start. I'm sure many of us would pay a premium so that we would not have to buy two Valks to get what we want for one custom. Or to be able to have a valk you can just add on when you customize and not have to prep and remove paint deco from.
  6. Since 1/48 destroids have been listed multiple times 1/48 Hands, Heads and pilots pack that has one of every head, a bunch of hands and some pilot variations cast in whatever characters' colors 1/48 Enemy Mecha 1/48 vehicles with accessory characters and equipment
  7. Man, that surprised the hell out of me. All of our major stores around here have more then their fair share of any of the major consoles.
  8. Pics of the last wave of 2007 and first of 2008 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=136810

  10. Thanks to all for the compliments, I love doing the customs and I'm just glad I finally ran across Krylon Fuzion, just wish they had more colors.
  11. Finally got around to taking some pics with my new nikon d40x of my detolf light setup. Here's some of my collection. The VF-1D I purchased completed, since I had no luck finding a kit to custom myself. The Low Vis v1 VF-1S I bought as a set and simply painted some accents on the head. The max and kakizaki(my first 148 custom) VF 1A's I did myself, and the VF-1J CF with matching fastpacks is my favorite of the ones I've done so far. Just really like the look of the colormatched fastpacks. I'm in the middle of making an arctic green VF 1A out of an angelbird and a couple other VF-1S customs. After that I've got an idea about doing colormatched squadrons starting with a red cartoon type VF1A, a green VF1j with colormatched fp's. A stealth VF1A and a LV 1 VF1J, a CF VF1S and if I get really ambitious a yellow squad to match Roy.
  12. It's interesting to see so many people on here stand up for the movie. It feels kind of weird hearing this on a forum where they cut Robotech to shreds since it is nothing like the original Macross. I haven't met one old school fan yet who dug it, or for that matter who dug beast wars or any of the crap outside of G1. I'm not going to say it wasn't a fun popcorn flick but I will go out on a limb and say it wasn't that good of a movie. I work in VFX and most of Bay's excuses for why the characters wouldn't use old school designs seemed like a hundred other things I've heard before. Pretty much just an excuse for him to have more say and control as a director. In the buildup to the movie I loved how many times he went back on things he said Like "mass shifting doesn't have a place in my film", then there was the allspark, all the weaponry and arm cannons that appear from nowhere, Frenzy growing a whole new body. Another one was "The reason the characters are being redesigned is because they won't work on film", well from what I saw it was hard to tell where any of his characters began and ended, you could hardly tell one apart from another and it made some of the action shots unwatchable. Then to top it off his "people" leaked word out a couple weeks before release that "Hasbro didn't want Bay to use the original designs because they were worried that the movie would ruin them for people". Nice way of trying to rewrite history, although I'd almost believe that statement. Hey he said it was would be true to Transformers and I guess I can see where he was coming from. He thought the horrible little film he did called Pearl Harbor was actually pretty close to the event it was supposed to depict. I thought it was closer to a Jerry Springer episode mixed with battle scenes and and 360 rotations of every actor cut to bad pop music. Either way, I will just continue to hope he has a minor stroke before the next film is in production and they have to hand it off to someone who could do it justice like Cameron or Spielberg. Just because a film makes a lot of money doesn't mean it's good. Look at episode 1.
  13. Totally agree, I had the worst supe on Snakes on a Plane anyway. That movie pretty much ruined the business for me. Way too much incompetence in Hollywood. Very rarely do you get a chance to work on something good. When you do the experience is almost always ruined by some apeface who thinks it's their movie and forgets they are the hired help. Best experience so far had to be Sin City, Eragon and Shark boy and Lavagirl. Two of them had some shitty experiences but Eragon was pretty cake. It's funny how the shitty movies are sometimes the best experiences. You can do better FX on them when there aren't so many people who get a say in what it should look like.
  14. I also did some work on Pan's Labyrinth. I got pulled off of that early to work on Snakes on a Plane, not much of a trade off but I got to do some cool shots on it.
  15. If what I've heard and read about Rodriguez is true then I have kinda lost a lot of love for him. Let's just say he might've bought into his own hype in regards to his personal life and superstardom. It looks like it has affected every facet of his life. I have a problem watching planet terror because it seems like it is one big love letter to Rose. Don't parade yourself as the Anti Hollywood family man then blow all that poo away for a chick who Manson slept with, c'mon.
  16. Kanedaestes, Del Toro also had The Devil's Backbone, Mimic and Cronos before Hellboy. Now he has At the Mountains of Madness in production and soon Hellboy 2. Pan's gave him a name, before Pan's people didn't know him on his own and now his name can sell tickets. Kurisama, I did Compositing, roto and a little VFX previs. Yes, I got to meet Del Toro and later Mignola. The company I worked for let me do an illustration piece for the SDCC handout book thanking them for their work. I've worked on over 20 films and two of them were Del Toro films, he's great because he let's the artists go off but he still knows when enough is enough. He has a true vision of what will work for his film. Rodriguez is another director like that but for him the quality level doesn't need to be as high, he knows the subject matter doesn't need the level of VFX that a film like Pan's or Children of Men does. Sin City was especially fun because we would do something we enjoyed and thought looked good and all he would say is "Cool", which to him meant final. Most directors need to make at least a few changes to feel like they were the ones who did the shot, not you.
  17. I did some VFX work on the first one. Guillermo really loves the character and this one has been in the works since. I think the studio wasn't sold on it due to box office perfomance and the fact that it was a hard sell for a new character. Half the places the movie was, the title was changed to Supersapiens or some other cheesy name. After Guillermo did Pan's Labyrinth pretty much on his own with so much acclaim. The movie became an easier pitch for him. Since the dvd sales are good and the new animated series is doing well for them the studios were a lot easier to sway. Hell, the character is already established so it should do way better then the first.
  18. I think I might be able to help you through this but you will need a copy of photoshop. First off if is it two seperate images? Try using a second layer in photoshop and set the way it is applied to lighten. This should make it so that the heavy black of the ship layer isn't darker then the space bg layer. Next go ahead and select the spaceship layer and use ctrl L to alter the levels. You want to change the levels tool so that you are altering each color channel seperately. This allows you to dial the colors in so that it looks more in tune with the color space of the bg. You have something weird going on with the area of the earth where the ships are close to. I'd suggest repainting it a bit along with the moon. After all that I'd use the clone tool to add areas of stars into it so its not just dead where the ships are. Grab from all over the picture and add them there. I only had a couple minutes but here is what I would do.
  19. Yeah, wish it was in 1/48th
  20. What would you be looking at for it if you did sell it? PM me...
  21. Are you talking about the one for 1/55 scale chunky monkies?
  22. It looks like I've got a VF1D, anyone have a VF1J head they are willing to part with? CF brown is preferential but any color will do.
  23. I know what you mean, I have versions of all the 1/48th Yammies and it's sad there aren't anymore to get other then the 25th anniversary edition. The only answer once you have them all is to customize. One of my favorites is still the VF 1D and hopefully soon I will be getting one. I've already taken one CF and made it into a Kakizaki TV version. I plan to make a VF 1J Command Colors out of a CF and then a Max TV version most likely using an angel bird since it's my least favorite. I've tried to get a CF brown 1J head but with no luck. I will have two Hikaru 1J versions after I get my fast pack set so I think i will cannabilize my earlier one for the head. Be careful because once you start it's hard to stop. I keep thinking of new ways to add to my collection with the leftovers. Like taking one of my VF 1S anniversary versions and giving it my cf 1a head. Taking the Hikaru body and adding the 1S head and making a "Jetfire" version.
  24. It's the VF 1J and it comes with a different colored fastpack then the others. From my understanding it's a bit more green then blue. I just purchased one from Evil Porkchop and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.
  25. Thanks but I'm really just looking for the conversion kit that I think "captain america" did. I already have the 1/60th yammie of the vf 1d but since it doesn't look like yamato is going to do a 1/48th two seater I am going to make my own. If someone has one already applied I'd be willing to buy it like that and cannibalize it for my own custom if it isn't fully finished yet.
