So my GF was actually excited about seeing Star Trek and loved every minute of it. trust me for her to get excited about Sci-fi is as rare as a good movie from our good friend who directed "Blood Rayne". But just before we saw the movie, we saw the mega crapolla that will be G.I.Joe. Again, she is not a big Sci-Fi gal, but even she said " what the hell are those suits doing and why the hell are they in G.I. Joe!" she looks over at me , smiles and wispers in my ears "Baby they are ass-raping your childhood again!"

There is hope for her though, we rented Caprica after the movie and she really loved that! A week earlier we saw wolverine and she really really loved that! but I suspect that was becuase of Huge Jackman. Anyway she thinks we are on a role with all the origins movies that we have seen. First Wolverine then Star Trek and finally Caprica. so hopefully Terminator Salvation will be good too!

needless to say if i take her to see G.I.Joe A.K.A crapolla. I will be single before the ending credits! which will include Sean Wayans! I mean really what the hell were you thinking?

I decided to let this last bit out of spoilers. I didn't expect the last tidbit on Mitochondrial Eve. It's great to see educated writers. For those wondering (and those that have not played Parasite Eve ), the newsflash at the end refers to Endosymbiotic theory which was postulated by Lynn Margulis. It is the predominant theory on how eukaryotic cells (those that we have) evolved from simpler prokaryotic cells (ie. bacteria).

To make a long story short, the theory says that a long time ago some larger bacteria might have engulfed or merged with smaller bacteria. Instead of dying though, the smaller bacteria somehow remained in the cell, and evolved into cellular components like mitochondria. To this day, mitochondria actually contains DNA as well! Mitochondrial DNA it is passed only from Mother to Child and mutates at a predictable rate, it has been a popular tool in the study of ancient human populations.

The term "Mitochondrial Eve" is actually used, and is thought to be of a woman living in Africa.

It's a nice general science blanket that encapsulates the show's themes about evolution, conflict, and adaptation.

Wow Simply one of the best ending to a series I have seen in a long while. I especially liked the meld of religious and philisophical overture! for those who have not seen it yet ( possible spoiler)there is a definate wink as to who the Baltar and six's so called angel versions really are, acually quite funny! Also did you guys catch that dadalius style attack?

Shadow Chronicles is why people make fun of geeks like us! How could you possibly take this genre seriously with fodder like that!

Can somebody please let animators know that CG looks horrible and cheep! Shame on you Harmony Gold for raping my childhood. Seriously, was every character in SC on steriods? and what the hell is up with that horrible music? why did they butcher the theme music to sound similiar to that of space balls?

This is why i disliked Gundam seed, sure the Mechs look great, but all the characters looked like rejects from Yu-gi-oh ( hope i got that right)

as far as im concered SC is pure crapolla, and the dialouge was smothered with every cleche known to sci-fi fandom. Shadow Chronicles is the "RUDY" of the series in that it tries ...and it tries...and it tries...and then tries again to messure up. The only diffrence between SC and rudy, is that when rudy finally got a chance to take the field, he actuallly made a small contribution to his team.

I know about the peroxide, but is the oxy something that can be bought at any supermarket ? I would like to try this, but rather than taking the Valk apart, I will simply emmerse the whole valk. don't worry, it is an old 1/60 ver. 1 that i bought for spare parts anyway. my goal is to have the same effect without the pain in the ass of having to take it apart and put it back together.

I don't read it that way, although I can see where you might derive this opinion.

The way I see it, everyone ELSE surrounding Shinji is a loser: His dad is a loser because he thinks manipulation, politics and the quest for Godhood are more important than being happy with your loving wife and kid, the kids in school are losers (in the beginning) because they don't even think about Shinji as a human being thrust into a horrible situation, but just presume to blame him for the civilian casualties...the list goes on.

In fact, there are very few human beings who aren't losers - Misato being one of them, her boyfriend being another: these are people who know that the world is a place of deception and cruelty and they do what they can to survive; always looking to carve out a little piece of happiness amidst the storm. But they are few and far between.

They also have the pathos of distance with them - something Shinji lacks. Shinji can't divide his public from his private self; he can't "play his part" in the mess of human existence while also finding something happy in his private life. He rebels against this division - the hypocracy of it that everyone seems to take for granted - he is, in this sense, the most heroic of anime heroes - because the other ones who "outgrow" their childhood and become "men" actually just become bigger children (if childishness is understood to be a kind of escapism from reality). Shinji never escapes reality - he faces it constantly.

So, he's not a "loser" - he's a big time winner - he is, in a world of losers and lunatics - a human voice crying out for sanity.

In fact, the nice family life we see inthe final episodes of the series underscores this. This is the kind of life that makes Shinji, his mom, Asuka, and his Dad happy fulfilled humans - the kind of life they all rejected in favor of insane hubris.

Shinji is the best anime hero because he says "no" to joining the fray - that he literally has to be dragged into his EVA in EOE is proof of it. He doesn't want to save humanity because humanity is the final angel: humanity is the enemy: humanity deserves to die because it is not worth saving.

Not even for the few humans Shinji loves - because that would save everything else - including what is horrible in mankind.

So, it's not a rebellion against the hero stereotype in favor of the "loser emo" type - it's a higher type of hero; one who is extraordinary in that he faces brutal reality and makes no attempt to find grounding in the void.

I had a conversation the other day with someone that did not really appreciate Macross for what it is! She thought of how silly it was that you can fight and defeat a giant race of Aliens simply by singing a song. Both she and I are really into working out and I told her that I listen to macross music when Ever I work out. It makes me want to run longer and it makes me want to do that extra set and lift a little more weight, my body says I can do no more but my soul says yes you can!

I told her to consider how powerful music can be! Think about if your life had a soundtrack, what would that soundtrack be and why? Hearing music can definitely change your mood.

One day I just happened to be humming D.Y.R.L, she asked me what I was humming, that it was really beautiful. Instinctively I said this " Nothing, Just an old Earth song". I think I didn't tell her because selfishly I wanted to keep that mood for myself, to stay in that moment.

I got her to watch it again she had a greater appreciation for it! Actually she really likes macross now and is currently hooked on Zero

I think the reason that macross is so great is because it taps into a real emotion through music. Macross says far more about what it means to be human than anything I could ever explain to another living person. If you have a faint appreciation for music that you will understand the power of macross.
