  1. b and c for the screws are almost alike from my recent assembly. they just differ in threading so you might have screws mixed up. I know I had them mixed up on my assembly.

good luck this one is harder then assembling a perfect grade 1/60 gundam. I think yamato should have sorted the screws out for us.

  2. I haven't posted in a long time, but I think this deserves a reply. I do not know why the International media is trying to MIS-inform (I guess for ratings), but there is absolutely no such "meltdown" problems here. I am in Tokyo but even speaking to friends in the northeast region there are no serious warnings or such (at least not like CNN or other such media is trying to convey). Some might say that the government is trying to cover it up, but I spoke to Earthquake professors at my University (Tokyo University), which are advisors to the Prime Minister and they also say there is no problem. I guess a magnitude 9.0 earthquake alone is no match to Charlie Sheen in ratings, but making stuff up...

  3. http://www.toyarchive.com/Robotech/st7/sdfj.html

It seems like a really interesting little figure, but is it very rare? How big is it? Is it made of plastic or diecast?

I had one of these when I was a kid. from whatI can recall it's all plastic and didn't have a complicated transformation process it was like rotate the body and rotate the guns. the arms couldn't move much and could not bend at the elbows neighter did the main guns drop down. it was a cool toy for a little kid though.

  4. Overdrive is good and I have had good experience with Angolz. Note that the only time I have ever had to pay duties was when I purchased one from HLJ. They may have "cheaper" shipping but you'll end up paying the same or more in the end depending on your countries import dues and taxes.

    Where do you live?

  5. Except this cat, instead of purring, will blast giant holes in your ceiling with its main gun... what? the weapons don't work? it's just a model ship? :o:lol::lol::lol:

I wish i had the budget to get one of these but i'll settle for my 1/5000. :D

I actually like the wave version. This yamato version is gonna have to wait to see it pan out into a production version.

  6. the megahouse mini mospeada is also good. just a little part swapping. the 21 is wayyy nice but too fragile and dropping it at the right angle willl break it fast. that's 210 + out the door. And over-drive-inc.com will offer replacement parts if your son breaks a part. it can be fixed. so yammie's are the best for the buck.

don't come back into collecting it'll depleat your wallet.

  7. my plan is to let him actually transform it. The shoulder issue has me worrying about the v2 1/60 toys..........he is going to get a little rough with them and I want it to be his rather than something I buy for myself to let him play with.

please note that on the yammie boxes it says 15+

get him a 1/48. they are sturdy enough to play with. if you go with the 1/60 v2 that would be a similar transformation to the 1/48. they 1/60 are more solid. I wouldn't recommend a 21 or 19 yet. since they are more finicky to transform

  8. Like VFTF1 said you are totally forgetting about economies of scale and other factors. You can't compare a TV or and Ipod touch to a toy that's like comparing Apples to Oranges. I work for a farm machinery company that makes seeders haying equipment and aircarts. Our smallest models cost $30,000 and our largest costs $$150,000+. We sell maybe a 200-400 machines of all types a year. Am I going to say this unbelievably cheap because a 70' Airseeder only costs $180,000? NO, it does not makes sense. Believe me toys (or anything that sells at a low volume compared to say an Ipod) can cost allot more than you think. Molds are really expensive and if you aren't selling hundreds of thousands of units it really creeps into the cost of your item. Is $500 allot? Sure it is. But Yamato is factoring in Production costs and demand of the product when they set prices. Go to a parts vendor. See what they charge you if you order 1 part versus 1000 or 10,000 parts. You will be crapping your pants when you see the difference VOLUME makes to the bottom line. Now Yamato has the right to make a profit just like everyone else and they know if they overcharge they are going to loose sales. Would they have sold allot more 1/3000-1/5000 SDF-1s at $200 or less, maybe, but REMEMBER THAT YAMATO HAS NOT OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED A PRICE YET! I am sure that once they get a handle on how many of these they will sell they'll announce one and if it's allot it might be cheaper than what's been speculated. Crap if they find out that they will only sell a couple of hundred of these they might not release it at all or we could be looking at a toy coming close to $800 or $1000.

Besides this is not the first $500+ toy I've seen and for me this doesn't really fall into the toy category. This is more like buying a totally awesome display piece. You know like those Darth Vader and Marvel Statues that sell for like $1200-$3000. If they really wanted to make a toy they probably would have stuck to 1/3000 or smaller. If you want that go buy the Wave simple as that. If $500 is too expensive for well theres nothing else to say. We all don't have the budget for something like this.

at the end of the day it's a choice we make or don't make. I'm convinced that yamato is just getting a feel for the SDF and pricing to more accurately gage a good price. I hope. But the end result price or not we have that choice to buy or not to buy.

  9. $500 is actally a lot of money for any toy. we're just used to seeing these $200+ priced toys that we've become desensitized to the outrageous pricing by manufacturers and their vendors. it doesn't take a genius to figure out that these toy companies/vendors are taking advantage.

if you compare it to any similar priced item(including non-toys), do you think its worth $500? and itouch is less, and iphone is less, a flatscreen TV is less, the xbox/ps3/wii is less, you can get a decent desktop/laptop for the same price!

i don't care what the thing does(outside of an actual fold manuver) its not worth $500 in my eyes. tooling, molds, R&D, all the BS involved with getting it made, should not equal a car payment for a frickin mercedes benz!

toy prices have been getting out of hand for a while now and i'm over it.

i really don't understand how some of you guys are still on it?

i love macross as much as the next guy and it holds a special place in my heart but is this stuff really worth it?

not to get all hippy on you guys but you could feed a kenyan family of 5 for a year for $500, instead some of us choose to own a toy. it just seems ridiculous.

    sorry for the rant.

That's no rant, you bring up a good point that hopefully yamato willl pick up on from their "BUYING" audience.

  10. You crazy cats & your shipping. I picked up mine from the store yesterday & very nice it is to. The only bad point is that there is not enough leg room in the rear seat for a full size pilot, hence why Minmay has her knees pulled up to her chin. No shoulder cracks on mine.

rub it in for the less fortunate who don't live downstairs to a real toy store not some "americanized toy's r us" won't sell real anime stuff. We get hijacked here for anime products unless we order form online store that charge us shipping.

Your in the GOLD Graham. Hong Kong. Wan Jai.

  11. well - cheap as in "relatively cheap" and "relatively" as in "compared to other items similar to it at various price points and scales.

I'm not saying it's cheap as in "walk into the store and pic up a snickers bar, a bottle of water and a 1/2000 Macross - no bidggie."

Obviously it's an expensive item. I'm just saying that the price sounds ok to me - if that is the price. Sounds reasonable and not that bad. Comparatively cheap.

But of course it's all speculation now.

Maybe our Japanese member friends can sound off on whether that kind of price would be considered reasonable in Japan for such an item at such a scale?

    Pete

yeah, I agree. Still Yamato should still consider a downsize in price or go to a 1/3000 scale which is more affordable.

  12. 50 thousand yen would be pretty cheap.

    if you think that's cheap.

do the math 93 yen = 1 us dollar. whether, going up or down we don't know the final result but 50, 000 yen is too high to be priced at period. it a piece of ABS, POM plastic. over inflated for my price tag.

  13. I don't blame Yamato for putting out something big. It gives the consumer more choices. Want small? Go Wave. Want big? Go Yamato. Want bigger? Build your own.

I think a big issue is just plunking down 600-700 USD in one go. Figure collectors spend 70-100 on each figure, and it adds up to be around the same, but buying 7 separate items over a period of time doesn't seem as alarming as buying a single expensive figure. It's just a mentality thing, especially when people don't have spare cash.

I support Yamatos decision, but I wasn't ready to put down $600 for a single large figure this year that wasn't the VB-6 or the HWR. I do hope that Yamato continues producing large collectibles though. Just means we need more space! (Also make sure to make the joints and limbs strong enough to hold up our other VFs when we start running out of room and need to stack them on top of each other)

It's not the size but the one time cash dropping price tag. I don't mind dropping money for the 21,1,19 but those are better buys. So I am agreeing that it cost to much to drop 700. At one time come on for that price you can buy a 3 day trip to Kauai on pleasant holidays. Or even a laptop. Yamato is just , plain and simple here. Rip us off. Milk us yeah! Make it big but make the price tag big also. Yamato's company slogan "price gouge macross fans"

  14. There better be a lot of detail and a lot of cool tricks to warrant the price. I'm sick of toy companies acting like size is a bigger price factor than design. Beyond that, no surprise and I'm looking forward to it.

I have to agree with you on these area. Yamato stop messing with our wallets.

  15. Actually, the yen is 93/1 right now, and has been slowly going down. By the time the SDF-1 ever gets to market, it'll be more like 100/1 or better.

HLJ always shows an artificially low rate on their auto-conversions.

    Vostok 7

I hope your right, plus I hope yamato shaves it down in size it'll be easier to play with like the kong monster
