Now that Thanksgiving is over, I thought I'd take a quick moment to remind people about Toys for Tots and what a great program it is. http://www.toysfortots.org/home/ I believe the last day to donate is Dec 22nd. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

That just means more for me then! You can get the kubricks at kidrobot or ningyoushi too. Chapter 3 is coming out soon. YES. -

The DOOM series from id Software, yes. And judging by Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, and Eminem, The Rock won't be going by Dwayne Johnson anytime soon. -
Tim Burton's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.
dr_vandermeer replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I am excited by this movie. More for Johnny Depp than Tim Burton. The original has always been one of my all time favorites, despite not being 100% true to the book. Bring it on, I say. -

I wonder why he refueses Singaporean bidders when he is from Singapore? So that if anything goes wrong, it'd be harder to get him? -
***SPOILER ALERT*** Highlight to read. My $.02 That's what I meant. The very end, with the main guy being the "dead" guy. Never saw the big twist coming. Everything else yes. And his motivation was acceptable too. Of course someone was pulling all the strings. That's a given. I could accept the fact that these 2 guys got a more elaborate puzzle because since the main baddie was the guy in the hospital, the doctor was more directly involved with the guy's life in not being able to save him and/or not seemingly "caring". The photographer, orderly, etc. were just unfortunate to be associated with him. It's like the other people with puzzles were a warm-up to this larger puzzle for the doctor. The were all people who the main bad guy would've seen in the hospital too. Reverse bear trap - drug addict / Razor wire - attempted suicide / Candle - Poison? Aids? I don't remember this one as well as the others) And remember the penlight left behind at one crime scene? It was just the beginning of starting to get the docotr into trouble and to rethink/evaluate/appreciate his life. But I do concede that at the end, they should have show some way that the phone was totally out of reach to the doctor by ANY means. My brother said the very same thing after the movie. However, I can accept that he was just totally distraught and not thinking clearly though. But it was funny how in the beginning when the photographer was trying to initially reach the tape recorder, he couldn't. My brother kept whispering under his breath, use your shirt, use your shirt, and 2 seconds later he did. They played "semi-fair" in my opinion, with people reacting "semi-logically". The thing that bothered me more was the 2 cops going after the killer ALONE, the MTV editing, the rock music, and some other stuff. But again, stuff I can forgive in the long run knowing their limitations and restrictions. I'm excited to see what these guys come up with next.

You saw it? Give it an Exo rating.

I kinda know what you are saying, but I sure didn't that end coming. Did you? And I pride myself on catching twists. I'd still recommend it, even though it wasn't a grand slam homer. There were some overall directorial/editing/casting/score choices that I would've done differently, but I also understand that a lot of it was dictated by their shooting schedule (28 days or something like that) and budgetary restraints ($1,000,000). Still enjoyed it. B- movie to me.

The thing about her that really bugged me since day one was the shirt she was wearing in her 'Pieces of Me' video. I believe the word 'PUNK' is what's on it. Hey, I don't mind if anyone's a fan of her music. I don't even mind if her music is "pop." But at least be who you are, instead of trying to fool young teenage girls you are something else. Ugh. Nothing more to add.

yep. AND it happened live on a major TV show. The other part I didn't mention was that at the end when the cast usually says goodbye, she made some lame excuse that her band played the wrong song, when it actually seemed to me like they were trying to save her. She hung them out to dry.

I didn't see it live, but this makes me very, very happy. Check out the forums on her own website too for some comedy goooold. AKIRA Live-Action Film Director Named
dr_vandermeer replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not happy about this... I find it incredible to believe that no better directors were hungrier for this project. -
I had the pleasure to watch this 2003 Korean thriller on DVD the other day. VERY well acted, VERY powerful. The lead actor is simply astounding. The direction is confident and assured. This is now one of my favorite movies. I need to go find and watch the director's other movies now. My personal feeling is that you should go into this movie knowing at little as possible. Don't google it, don't do any searches on any boards, just try and find it and go watch it if you can. My feeling is that sometimes a lot of the specialness of a movie gets lost by hype, too much information, and people's enthusiasm, setting unfair expectations. That said, here's a MINI-MINI-synopsis for anyone curious for just a little taste of the story. Again, I think that the less you know going in, the better: A man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a room against his will for 15 years. He gets out and immediately sets out for revenge while searching for the answers 1) Who did this? and 2) Why? The Doctor's prescription - Highly Recommended. 5 out of 5 pills.

I'm 34. I "skated" back in 1985 in high school. My knowledge of skate stuff begins about 84 and ends about 87. There is such thing as selling out, the problem is people today don't notice it because everyone has sold out. About the only "culture" that exsists that has not been permiated by corporate greed and finegaling has been the Goths and they are on the doorstep of corporate takeover thanks to joints like Hot Topic and the like. Back when I had a board, a Vision shirt and an attitude you had to dig deep and look long and hard for skate stuff. It was a rebel set back then, underground. Ever since the '90s and the coming of the X Games skating has become so corporate that they might as well be on wheeties boxes. No offense but when you pimp product for someone... anyone... you are a sellout. The sad thing is we are all sellouts to some degree. i'm 29 and i still skateboard. i guess i'm not the badass that i used to be when i was younger but it still doesn't change what skating does for someone. i do it cause i enjoy it and it takes my mind off the everyday BS. gives me some "me" time away from friends, the girl, the family. its a good thing. the reason i said theres no such thing as a sell out is exactly your point, everyone "sells out" at one point or another. nowadays, its impossible to keep it real so to speak. you got no choice, sell out and eat, don't sell out and starve. whats a man to do? so to a certain degree, i do agree with you but people like to throw the word sellout around and its really not fair. its easy to call someone a sellout when you're not in that persons shoes. people can call me a sell out, but if some gay arse boy band paid me a million to dance around like a fruit cake, i'd do it in a heart beat. sure people can make fun, but i got me a million dollars. Milli Vanilli and Vanilla Ice probably thought the same thing.
