  1. On one hand, Macross collecting is a blessing, but on the other, it's a curse.

Blessing because when you go past variants and whatnot, there's not much to collect. There's like less than 20 unique moulds [talking about the 1:60 line] even if you include the Bandai renewals.

There's a curse though because the market for these wildly fluctuates. Wildly. A few years ago there were massive discounts on pretty much all Macross items. Everything up to and including the VF19S were discounted at 60% or so. I got two super/strike parts for 3000 or so yen each. Pretty much the only items in the past few years that I bought for retail was the VF1S Max and the VF25S.

The VF17S has been on clearance since...forever. Like, 2011 or so. Yet now that it's out of stock, expect its prices to soar upwards easily.

It created a trend where everybody was waiting for clearance sales for most items. This backfired when Yamato caught on, and the VF19F, E, VF17D and so on were released in much fewer numbers.

And now there's this odd situation where Arcadia releases -one- very expensive item per year, easily available, and Bandai releases a lot which disappear within seconds. Bandai probably does not want to get caught with its pants down like Yamato did circa 2010 or so.

And now since Yamato could not make it even, Arcadia is upping the prices on all their macross collectibles as a countermeasure.

    Tough times.

  2. Okay, so got my VF25S Ozma...and I'm not terribly thrilled.

Too fiddly and wobbly for my taste when in battroid.

Does the upper body lock into place at all, or is it always this wobbly? Have I missed any step in the instructions where the neckplate somehow locks onto the nosecone indent and the torso is more stable? Mine just wobble around when I move it.

  3. Hello there

Trying to sell the last 2 remaining VF1 valkyries I have left in pursuit of other figures.

Items are in the UK, shipping will be calculated on a case by case basis obviously. Payment by paypal only. International shipping more than welcome as long as you're willing to pay for it.

    Items

DYRL VF1S Max type: Item has been on display and transformed. Has spent the last year or so in storage until very recently. Stickers applied. No loose joints although the swing bar half-dislodges from the cockpit area if you go extreme posing in battroid [been recently confirmed that this is not limited to my copy]. Left arm shoulder pauldron had come off before, used glue to snap the two parts securely. Transforms and slides up an down just fine. Rainbow canopy has some fingerprint marks on from the factory [on the inside].-------SOLD, payment received on the 30th of September.

Asking USD 160 for it before shipping. MIB. Item can be shipped loose with all accessories if you want to save on shipping.

DYRL VF1A Kakizaki type: Mint, stickers applied. Same minor issue as with Max with the dislodging swing bar in battroid mode [does not come off or dangle loose, but trap door opens up slightly]. Rainbow canopy intact.----------SOLD, Payment received on 28th September.

Asking USD 110 for it before shipping. MIB. Can ship loose with all accessories to save on shipping.

PM with any questions, sorry about the quality of pictures but my mobile is not at it's best.

Thanks for looking! Priority will be given to buyers wanting both of them.

  4. Hmmm...interesting to know.

Yes my 1S Max tends to get loose in the locking mechanism, and my 1A Kakizaki is the first version [rainbow canopy] and it's a bit looser.

So all the ones with the refined crotch mechanism do NOT have this issue present? I'd have thought that the older mechanism, while fiddlier, would be sturdier. Hmmm.

Might look into trading my two valks for a proper one then.

  5. Max's DYRL VF1S is the one I'm enjoying the most.

Are people with V2.0 VF1 [any releases] having problems with the swing bar/cockpit nose connection being somewhat...loose nowadays?

Both my Max1S and Kakizaki 1A are a bit wobbly [won't unlock, but might bulge forward depending on the pose] at the connection. I don't ever remember them doing that and they were packed away in fighter mode for close to a year, so I can't understand why this is happening.

  6. Less iconic.

The most popular 1A variants is the TV Max and the DYRL 1A Hikaru.

DYRL 1A Max was only featured for less than a minute, Kakizaki's aren't that hot [either iteration]...the only ones featured prominently are TV Max and DYRL Hikaru. Add to the fact that Hikaru piloted the more famous hero variants later on, and that the other 1As on the market are the cannon fodders...yeah.

However, being hero valks, the 1S [any except Max's] had more production runs.

  7. It is cautious and they would be well advised to do so.

Just remember that the fandom [however limited we may be] ended up on a "wait until it hits clearance" circa early/mid 2011 or so. The only valk I got at a full price was the VF1S Max [retail] when it came out. Everything else was bought at 40-60 percent off.

The only valkyrie in recent years [from Yamato] that sold out at retail was the VF4G.

With that being said, yes, I fully support Arcadia's more or less one new mould per year, if it means keeping them in business.

And generally speaking, Bandai can afford to milk moulds [VF25 and 29 thus far] because of their smaller pricepoints. The new YF19 is uber popular as the YF19 flown by Isamu, not much else. And it carries a much higher pricetag than any of bandai's offerings.

  8. Transformers... (shudders..) awful things..

Of course no disrespects to anyone on this site who collects them its just that even after all these years you'd think they would have advanced the design so they actually look half decent in either transformation mode..

I don't think there is one particular TF that transforms as well as a VF-1 or any Valkyrie for that matter..

Really? Not one? You know there's like over 500 TF designs versus like...20-30 transformable macross designs, and you still can't find one you can say you like either mode better than a valkyrie?

    Not -ONE-?

And are we talking about toys, or generally designs?

The VF19 is actually one of my favourite, if not favourite transforming mould, but there's some pretty great transformers that look half decent in either mode. Binaltechs, Alternity, RID [2000 line], Movie lines, some Generations, most Masterpieces...

  9. Thanks for the advice. So any idea if it is possible to fix the oversprayed silver on the lower legs? This is the worst spot for me since he will be in robot-mode most of the time.

This and the terrible gun but I guess I could strip all the paint and paint it again since it is all silver. I only fear of soaking the gun in paint thinner since I melted a A-10 Warthog gun-pod that way.

My MP Streak is just so perfect and I want to be Lambor too. :(

Honestly, bar the first picture, if you hadn't pointed out what was wrong, I wouldn't be able to tell.

For the extremely minor issue with the silver paint on the calf...is it really such an eye-opened for you? I'd completely dismiss it since it's like half a milimetre of overspray right above the painted area. If you want to fix it though, either try to scratch some of it off with a tiny blade or find an insanely thin q-tip and try to use alcohol there.

  10. Daheck, HKcollectibles had a VF25 Ozma Renewal for $180... Urggggggggggggh

Back on topic. Any reason why the VF-19s are so cheap now? Really tempted to get one but I kind of want to get Bandais DX series more. Well, mainly because I prefer the modern Valks alot more than the old stubby ones. The VF-19's battroid mode is growing on me alot more now though (GERWALK is just derpy for me :X)

19S is so cheap because it got a reissue along the lines, and it didn't sell too well. So there was an oversaturation on the market for a valkyrie that wasn't as popular as Yamato thought it'd be. Right around that point this fandom had a collective "oh I'll wait until it's 40-50% off", resulting in any sales for non discounted VFs being near zero.

$120 isn't so bad as a value for a used plastic toy... most Macross fans are spoilt with VT-1's and VE-1's and VF-1D Virgin Road's and VF-4G's going for a premium.

My point was more for the original being so cheap and still plentiful on the market there's no resale value in "used" samples. At the very best, people like me who got their VF19 for very cheap will just break even, everybody else will lose money.

VF19 Kai, VF19S and the VF17S are still so oversaturated their "regular" market price is below their original retail price.

  11. Looks like the new one is in a darker shade of red and in gold instead of in yellow... I might actually have to get this one and I passed on the old VF-19 Kai.

And I would advice you to sell your old VF-19 Kai's because when the new one gets available the value of the old one will drop like a rock.

LOL what value? The VF19 Kai and the VF19S [especially the S] are the cheapest valkyries you can get at the moment. I got mine already discounted at like 12.000 or so yen, and even if I wanted to sell it, I doubt I'd make that money back.

  12. Gerwalk is my prefered mode in nearly most valkyries.

    SV51? Either fighter or gerwalk

VF1? Half gerwalk [arms back, tailfins untransformed] is my favourite.

    VF0? Likewise

VF11? Looks awesome in gerwalk, I prefer it to fighter.

    VF17? Gerwalk

VF19? Actually that one is battroid for me.

    YF21/VF22? Fighter or battroid

    VF25? Gerwalk

  13. Yeah, we might have started on the wrong foot here, but it's okay, no harm done.

Just to clarify a few things; I did not demand to return the item, I let them know that it wasn't what I expected and asked IF they accept returns on such cases, which they did.

Then it went okay until I asked for further clarification, which I never received.

It's not like I am actively trying to be the bad guy here. Seeing as they are a company which deals with customers from all over the world, they must come across questions like "where's your post code?". Surely something the majority, if not all of, Europe and USA use for their addresses must come up from time to time.

If they said that they do not accept returns on items that aren't outright defective, I'd be okay as well. It's just the ignoring part that got to me.

  14. Hong Kong addresses have no postal code. Not every country work like yours. HKC must have read your email/accusation and thought less of you and thus never replied, and I don't blame them.

Well seeing as I was a customer with the potential of being a return customer, they didn't do right by me.

And how on Earth is a simple "I see no postal code, could you please provide me with one?" an accusation? I never accused them of bad service until well after that.

A simple "I am sorry, we do not operate with postal codes in Hong Kong, if you still want to return the item, return it to the address provided" would have been sufficient and I would definitely have bought something else from them after this.

EDIT: "And they thought less of me, and you don't blame them" ?

-Get off your high horse brother, read exactly what I wrote, and then start accusing blame and thinking less of people.

  15. Really? HKCollectibles?

I bought my [now long since sold] VF17S from them.

Was generally disappointed with the item, just checked to see if I could return it for a refund.

They told me that it was okay, and I asked for a return address.

Their return address was incomplete, missing the post code. I sent an email back notifying them of this...and they never, ever replied. Since I was moving out of the country a few days after that, I never had the chance to ask back for it as the back and forth would have been useless.

So, um, yeah, top notch customer service...leaving a customer hanging like that.

  16. Well I just started watching Macross Zero for the first time last night...so I'll see if my interest is peaked to get this when I see what it does in the show. B))

Literally, nothing. It'd not even the final hero mecha. The only reason it stood out for me when watching the series was that it was blue.

Perfectly nice airplane and design, but as far as show-appearances go, this is borderline above nothing.

  17. As I predicted a while ago in other threads, Arcadia is playing it safe with what they're releasing.

Every single release and announcement of theirs is carefully premeditated from that character popularity poll sheet that caught my eye months ago in this forum.

VF1S Roy [with strike]---on the top 3 most popular valkyries

VF1S Hikaru [with strike, again]---very close to that

    YF19-----Need you ask? Top 5

VF0D----Best sales of the VF0 series as it's the only one we never got, hero-wise.

VF19Kai---whether you like it or not, it's an amazing toy and a hero character

So besides the VF1J which came out for the anniversary, everything else is a hero mecha. I suspect Gamlin will be next with either VF17.

I also believe they will make various changes to the Kai for this release. Not remoulding, but extra quirks like more tampo printing maybe and so on. Because otherwise it makes no sense, both the kai and the booster can be purchased for below their original retail right now, there'd be no incentive to buy a bundle.

  18. Are we sure that these are indeed die-cast arms? Realistically, I see no other reason for those parts to be bright glossy gold on the test shot, but you never know.

Pretty cool nevertheless. The 0D was the valkyrie I admired the most when watching Macross Zero [first ever macross thingie I watched as an adult going into the hobby].

It will be glorious and I'll be putting one pound aside each day for it until its release day. Will probably have cash for 2 but it never hurts lol
