Hey this looking great. I have a half built one of these, hopefully your great build up will motivate me to finish mine one of these days. Hurry up and assemble it!

I love the shape of the Alpha Fighter - from the front. It's when you start getting to the rear that it all goes a bit gauche, with those huge legs 'hidden' away - not! I note that anime magic always makes them smaller somehow, and in the models they always spoil the basic shape of the Alpha Fighter. I think modifying the wing size on this is a great way to go, and looking forwards to seeing your progress.

Thanks for the new pics. Again, look at the size of that pilot. Either this thing is huge, or the scale went AWOL somewhere... -

Well David, I was at least hoping for a Bandai 'EX' range treatment. Look at their Yamato Ex, they can do fantastic work, but obviously they decided to aim for a different market here. -
Welcome to the forums. You might want to read through this thread.

Well despite my misgivings, I've ordered one, and I am looking forwards to the challenge of making it not look like a toy. -

Is it just me, or does that pilot look a bit small. Or is this bird just huge? Very pleased they changed the canopy glass, not so happy with the landing gear, looks very toy-like. -
Haha, we all know how you like the big guns...

I'm hoping a couple of weeks. I might put a post up in the for sale section - it looks like a few people here might be interested.

I haven't really put a WIP thread together. As for Hikaru & Co, I am looking forwards to seeing what Bandai will do for their VF-25, and then I might see if I can put a set together, as it's not worth casting up only a couple of little pilots at time.

Very, very nice!

Fantastic work. I feel honoured being able to follow your evolving skills too! Amazing difference in the Ghost. Well done.

Wow, an interesting visitor! Thanks fcollingwood for dropping by. Just a couple of questions if you have time. 1) What are the ink options on ALPS? I know it can do white, but what about metallics, or any other inks I haven't mentioned. 2) What resolution does the ALPS output at? 3) What are the paper requirements? Thanks for your time. Regards, Petar

To produce the artwork for good quality decals you need to use a vector based illustration program like Adobe Illustrator. Corel Draw might be okay too, but I haven't used it for about a decade. As long as you're not printing white (which limits what you can do, a lot!) you can achieve excellent results with most modern colour inkjet printers and Adobe Illustrator. The key is to set up the printer driver correctly, and the kind of paper you use. Most decal papers are quite expensive, and will vary to where you live. Whatever decal paper you find, make sure it's as glossy as possible, naturally, as you will be able to print at a higher resolution. If you need a 'white' background for your artwork, consider using white decal paper, which you can buy at hobby stores. You will have to cut it to the shape you want, and then your custom decal goes over the top, after it's dry. As for ALPS, its beyond the budget of most hobbyists. I considered buying one, but would not buy it 'blind' as I'd want to do some tests with it before committing to that kind of a purchase. Some ALPS printed decals that I have received have been less than satisfactory, but its hard to tell whether it's because of the printers natural resolution, or poor artwork. Finally, if you want to purchase something out of Japan but they only ship internationally, consider contacting Rob from www.samurai-monkey.com. He offers a local Japanese buying service.

I left my model cabinet open. My one-year old daughter took one look in it with glee (while I went to make a coffee) and next minute she's deconstructing this, the VF-21 and the VF-19. The other two were a complete loss, but this one I was able to rebuild.

I think it's great everyone's so passionate about this subject. I really like the shape of the VF-25. From what I can see so far, I don't like Bandai's take on it, but I guess that will just mean my version will be a bit different from the 'gunpla' style assembly, which is fine with me. I love challenges, and this looks like it's shaping up to be one. Vifam has some good points, and I think it will be great if it brings more fans and creates a viable ongoing product line. I just wish Bandai had kept their toy line and their model line more separate. -
Well it took me over a year to getting around to fixing this up, but after one of my girls smashed it up, it was hard to find the motivation. New canopy from HLJ, and lots of bits painstakingly glued back together. Here she is repaired, back to her old self, with a bit more inadvertent weathering.... I love the shape of this aircraft. Might have to do another one day.

The blue coloured canopy... please, please, please let this be a pre-production version. I should be thin, transparent, and clear, not tinted. This one looks thick, semi-opaque, and toy-blue. As for the VF-27, BRING IT ON!!! -
Resin kits by their nature are a bit more fragile than styrene kits. I would possibly take the advice and build it in a fixed pose. For a first resin kit, a 'transformable' one is a bigger challenge than a static one.

Great thread, looking forwards to more!

Looking good. That heavy viper in the background though... would look even better!

The trailer looks fantastic. Except for Ozymandias - that's some serious miscasting there. He looks like he needs to adopt the 'Veidt Method'. Seeing the trailer inspired me to read the graphic novel again. Im about a quarter way through it, haven't read it for years and forgot how narratively dense it was. A real masterpiece!
