  1. Heh... some of you guys are drinking the Leykis kool-aid a little too much.

Sure, there are some kernels of truth in what he says, but it's radio entertainment and not necessarily to be used as rules for how to live your life.

  2. I like to call it a 'dork bunker'.

I call mine my "Nerdcave." :D

I have a room in the basement that is MINE. I put all my nerdy crap down there and my wife doesn't say one word about it. However, she has some pretty girly things around the house that I don't give her crap about. The point is, we each have our "space" that we can put our desired objects in.

It's about compromise. You get to have your stuff, and she gets to have hers.

Gently, but firmly stand your ground, and come to some sort of agreement on where you can display your stuff. This will also have the side benefit of demonstrating to her that you are willing to compromise, but you aren't going to just lie down and let her tell you what to do.

If she won't compromise with you, then you need to show her the door. You won't be happy in a marriage with someone who tells you what to do and is inflexible.

  3. Nice but aren't the chest stripes supposed to be reversed?

    Yes.

In the description I explained why we didn't repaint the stripes on the wings... I'll add "and fuselage" to avoid further confusion.

  4. Hi Everyone,

Like many of you, my first encounter with a VF-1 was through Transformers.

I recently bought the 1/48 Stealth with Strike packs, and my buddy Chris was so impressed he decided to take the plunge and we would create for him a "Masterpiece" Jetfire.

He bought the Hikaru VF-1S and the Strike/FAST Pack set from HLJ.

Today he came over to my house and we spent the afternoon working on it. Actually, since I had more experience with models and paint, I spent most of the time working on it. ;)

I found that Testors Model Master "Guard Red" is a pretty fair match to the Yamato red paint.

So, without further ado, here are the photos!

The Autobot logo doesn't show in jet mode because we placed it on the heat shield. You'll also note that the Macross kite is still on the wing... because it's a Matsushiro Jetfire. ;)

Ok, actually Chris didn't want me to completely disassemble his VF-1 to be able to properly tape and paint the wings and fuselage, so we skipped it. He didn't mind having black stripes instead of red.

We got decals from Reprolabels.com. The Autobot logos for the FAST packs were a bit small, but they look ok centered on that area. If it were mine, I probably would've figured out where to get bigger logos, but Chris was happy with them.

The Reprolabels logo worked really well on the heat shield, I think.

I also got a couple of pictures of the paint process. Here's my getto paint booth... the cockpit pieces look "lumpy" because they have lots of masking tape on them to protect the canopy and create lines for the nose stripe.

I used Citadel (Warhammer) white primer.

Here's some carnage from disassembly. I think this is about as much as Chris could stomach, with the price of this toy. ;)

Anyway, it was a fun project. I would have liked to spend a bit more time on making it a more accurate Jetfire, but Chris went home happy with a cool toy for his display shelf. All in all, a fun way to spend a Saturday. B))

Chris is going to order a Gundam marker and panel-line his Jetfire so I may post updated photos in a couple weeks.

    Enjoy!

  5. Hi Everyone,

I got my new decals from Takatoys today and put some of them on my Stealth Strike VF-1J. By the way, I have done some panel-lining with a Gundam marker.

From the perspective of the photos, you can't see what a crap job I did cutting the kite on the wing. :p

Takatoys was really quick with the shipping and I'd recommend him to anyone.

    Check 'em out.

  6. Not anytime soon that's for sure. Besides the VF-2SS transformation is almost similar to the VF-1. I want a VF-4 before a VF-2SS

I'd buy either and/or both. The VF-2 and the VF-4 are my two favorite designs (followed closely by the YF-21, which is probably going to happen this year :) )

Unfortunately the VF-2 isn't likely to happen at all. :(

Maybe there's some small chance of the VF-4. I just want to see some more futuristic designs.

Oh hell, Yamato, just make one of everything. You know we'll buy them. :D

  7. Voted for the VF-4 'cause there's nothing else like it. My runner up would probably be the 17, also for its uniqueness. I can't believe there's that many losers here who liked Macross II... :o

Speaking as a VF-2 lover, I didn't really care that much about Macross II.

I just love the design of the VF-2. It's wicked awesome. Like Ninjas awesome.

    But yeah, I'd love a VF-4 also.
