The big Masamune Shirow appreciation thread
Jemstone replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Very very simple. Money. If there's an audience and there's money to be made... These days most artist no matter how talented will do hentai/porn stuff. I really don't understand how it has to do much with money. Can't we just accept that SHirow has a sick side and it doesn't bother him to let everyone know? I'm sure there's a lot of other pockets of society he can make money off, so I can't see how this is a financial decision. I don't really know what's worse for each of us, a sell out or a pervert, but I would prefer it if we insult them by what they are, not what we think of them. I'm not saying that he doesn't enjoy what he's doing nor do I think it makes him a pervert. (I just don't care for it) To do detailed work of any sort with the passion he has, one MUST enjoy it. I'm just pretty sure that money played a big roll in it too. I guess it would atke one of us asking him why he's doing this and why the plate full of work and projects he's given himself. Doesn't he sleep? -
So is that why you're "Banrupt"? But, yeah it really sucks when you want something but don't have the funds. The Inuyasha DVD set is driving me crazy because it's just too expensive to buy all the DVDs. Kieth, are you turning traitor for ADV?
-
Yeah, because a certain Meltran is no longer a MW member to instigate arguements with them. Ben-Man aka DestroidsRage never had any problems with Quad. His banning was for other reasons. Not everything negative revolves around hate for Robotech or Quad.

Kinda OT: Is anyone picking up the Scarface DVD?
Jemstone replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No, Just artistic. You and I are in the same boat. I too am attracted to a great design scheme. BSU, I ignored the "extreeeme" title on it. LOL -
Whoa... FF, I didn't even see ya there. Welcome to MW. For starters, remove that pic from your sig for now.

Alpha pulled the plug on the Battlefield after some personal issues with a poster and Arcadia is the much improved replacement of the Battlefield (sans Alpha) and more of an anti-Battlefield. Ask Max or Apollo for the link if you are really interested in visiting. For the life of me I can't recommend it as it may open a whole new can of worms. I spoke to BoK at the Arcadia board. It does not seem like he has even reregistered here at MW.

Hmm.. I can't believe I missed this thread earlier. Roy, I don't think Tatsunoko can exploit what it has derivative wise but definately merchandise wise. It wouldn't make sense for both companies to have rights to any derivatives when one company has been awarded exclusive design and character rights.

I can see being pissed about the forthcomming Alien box set, but IMO the newest T2 isn't really any better than the existing Ultimate Edition. Except the case was really cool. -

See that's why I didn't buy the Collector's Edition. It's my understanding now that anything with "Collector/Collectible" stamped on it is worthless. Every so called "Collector's Edition" has an ultimate or special edition release afterwards. At least that's what I have noticed. (still pissy about the new Alien and T2 releases) -
Yes, I know. That's why he's such a COWARD. Hell, he could have posted this at Arcadia but I suppose there's no Steve Yun to protect his dumb ass there so he put at RT.com. EDIT TO YOU KNOW WHO LURKING: Don't bother going to Arcadia now after I've mentioned it!

Are you kidding? The secondary fire modes, plus some imaginative new weapons, made Pefect Dark twice as fun as GoldenEye for multiplayer. GoldenEye was great for running around huge multi-player levels demanding more thought and skill for killing than simple run-and-shoot games like Unreal, but in the end, you were still shooting at each other. Perfect Dark, with weapons like Proximity Mines and the Laptop Gun, took that to another level by allowing more clever traps. The multi-player in PD was actually so good, it took me a long time to get into Halo (I had my Xbox for almost a year before I bought it). As much as I'm looking forward to Halo 2, I can honestly say that I'd rather Perfect Dark Zero came out first. Well, I didn't play much multiplayer with Perfect Dark. My gaming friends (whom the majority turned out to be chauvanistic males that didn't like being consistently beaten by a girl) had developed the habit of joining forces/ganging up on me and killing me and/or doing whatever possible to put me in last place. Although one time I had an incredible comeback and managed to finish 1st over the 2nd place player with 5 more kills, I had basically stopped playing multiplayer with them. So I played PD mostly on 1 player mode or with my sisters which bored me. I have always found FPS to be too easy since I first played one online in 95 and why I do not like them. Anyways, I'll give it another whirl with your recommendation. My new co-workers make better gaming buddies than my friends back in Boston. Then again who's to say in a couple years they won't stop ganing up on me too. <_<

Now I see what you mean. It really is just a matter of opinion and preferance. I had load of fun with ym NES games but it's not my pick for best console because overall I had more fun with another console. Still, unlike you if I played NInja Gaiden 3 now I would be able to get back into it. There are games I find no matter how aged they still manage to immerse the player in it's world and it's gameplay. I still find that in many of the SNES games. I don't find that in many of the PSX games and very few PS2 games these days really "grab me by the balls" as they would say (tho I don't have any balls) . I guess a person could say I have a stange love affair with the game Xenogears. I was very involved with it's story when I played it and still am whenever I replay it. Back when it was released I thought the game looked only decent compared to other new PSX titles in 1998 (including Metal Gear Solid). Looking back at it now and comparing it some more the game looks like utter crap to me graphics wise (the townspeople look awful). Yet, when I play it I forget how abd it looks and am once again lost in the story and Fei's fate. In restrospect not many other PSX games had my attention like this game had. It didn't even revolotionize anything. I just throroughly enjoyed and had fun playing it. I think that's difference between us. When I play many of the old games (particularly on the SNES) I forget about everything else that's currently going on. I think for a game to be able to do that is quite an accomplishment. I still get that with some PSX, Saturn, N64, GC and PS2 titles but not as much as I did with the SNES (IMO). I'm not challenging the originality or progress games have made either (try not to confuse my points with the points of others). So no need to tell me about all the innovations games have made so far. I'm well aware as I live and breathe animation and interactivity with it. It's been the focal point of my existence for as long as I can remember. I also hope not too many agmes are more like movies than games. My problem with MGS2: SOL was that there were too many cinematic cuts and very little game time. A movie you sit down and watch. A game you take part in and live it. In the end the only thing I will remember about a game was it's gameplay or how much I enjoyed it. What made it fun. From my experience many games today are not "timeless" like many games I played in the SNES/Genesis era. Something you clearly disagree with. So I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I really do like Halo. It almost made me like FPS games. Almost.

wrylac and even Ben-Man were notable "banned" persons who seem to be doing quite well here these days. <_<

I just added a part for you. Funny I didn't edit it in time because I knew you would post something like this which illustrated my point.

In anticipation of KILL BILL Volume 1 & 2.

I know. I'm just saying it's not something he came up with in 1999 when martial arts became "in" in Hollywood. The concept of it existe dlong before Hollywood seemingly went with martial arts madness. -
You're welcome. Execpt I don't remember you directly addressing me as an elitist. I just know after the PSX became a hit due to the game there seemed to be an inlfux of "simple minded" children who all suddenly became video games experts. Of course I don't think I need to explain the Sony fanboys it created among otehr things. EDIT: I do mean rhe fanboys who for whatever reason believe no gaming platform existed before the PSX or simply none are worth emntioning. If that makes me an elitist to you when I wear the notion proudly. A person can't have a decent "old skool" conversation on gaming boards today without soem childish kid comng ina nd saying "PS2 r0xerZ!" or some silly thing like that. Vrey much how when CN first aired Gundam Wing for the firts time. Suddenly a bunch of kid became experts on Gundam and they had never even seen 0079.

You either really love FF7 or you just like repeating it's accomplishments. BTW I thought the game was decent but I did hate it because of what it did. It opened the doors for the species known as the casual gamer to be born. The game never effected me because I have always imported games and still do. I also did look for the stats for Mario RPG because I remember reading somewhere that while there were many who ahdn't playe dit, many people still knew of it. ANyways, too many links to wade thru on Google so I didn't bother.

Is that what you think it is? Just something that's wannabe Azn to look cool? Uma and Tarantino have been working on this film since they filmed Pulp Fiction! -
How long is this going to continue? Although my settings are set for 40 posts per page this topic is already close to 5 pages.

I was thinkign the same. Only Sundown forgot to add a "Bomba!" at the end of his post.

What a coward that jerkoff is!!! He won't speak up for himself here but has to go quoting us over on RT.com where some of us cannot voice our opinions. What a joke! I'll have you know I tend to ignore anything he says when the words Macross and Purists are int he first sentence.

Ok, you two. Get a room. -
LOL... that add is almost as bad as the "Yoda man" add for the SW Eps 2 DVD. Whoever this guy in it is..... he looks like a mutant beast creature.
