  1. As much as a 1/48 scale YF-19, 21 and VF-11B sounds intoxicatingly appealing to me, I don't want Yamato to release one.

Why is it that just because people can't afford them, they don't want Yamato to make them?

Is it because secretly deep down, no matter how much you say you're not going to buy it, you really would buy the thing if it came out and thus putting you on the dark path to financial ruin?

    :D

Anyway, it's like the helmet. Yamato's gonna make it, but I'm not gonna buy it. That doesn't make me want them to not make it. Maybe that's just beca use I'm just not interested in it.

  2. I don't know if anyone else has noticed but this Destroid appears to be semi-transformable. At the back of the knees are additional wheels that would never come into contact with the ground in its present mode, and at the back of the weapon arms are fists/hands.

It looks like that extra wheel is up when it walks around, but when it rolls, the back section of the leg swings down and the wheel makes contact with the ground and creates a larger and more stable surface to roll around on.

  3. VEX has got em in stock! The page was just updated! Unfortunately for some reason, my proxies must be preventing me from adding stuff to my cart. This doesn't stop anybody else from grabbing them tho.

  4. Minmay guard, GBP and Angel Birds.

If they're not going to make any of those, please move on to something else in 1/48. The VF-1 is a beautiful valkyrie, but my tolerance of copies is pretty low when it comes to it, especially when they all have the same 1A head. If Yamato wants to make a half dozen variants of a 1/48 Valkyrie, I wish they'd do it with one of the Macross Plus valks. I wouldn't mind buying a whole bunch of Project Supernova YF-19's.

  5. a friend of mine said they'll probably put the vf-1a (in low-vis colors) during the last couple episodes of macross zero....i dunno if it's true or now....i just heard it from him :)

Until I actually see it, I'm inclined to think otherwise. The VF-1 low viz was probably never slated to make an appearance. It's existance is based solely upon a custom created by someone who bought the 1/48 toy. However, if one person's custom toy can influence both a toy line AND an anime ova series, I'll be pleasently surprised.

  6. That said, if I was going to bet, I'd bet that Kawamori's intent is for the VF-0 to be a prototype in the VF-1 development program, and that existing continuity regarding the VF-X and VF-X-1 is being cast aside.

This is my take on it too. Forget your VF-Xs, the VF-0 is their replacement as one of the final iterations of VF-1 prototypes.

I highly doubt so , if they haven´t said that by now then it´s very difficult they´ll say it in the next episodes.

The VF-Xs were never mentioned in Macross either, but that doesn't stop people taking their existence as gospel.

    Looks like you're right.

I don't get it, Imode. Gokurakumaru is on the side of those who believe that the VF-0 is a precursor or prototype of the VF-1, not a parallel or advanced design, and his evidence is pretty solid.

Haha, oops. Indeed he is. It's really hard to say. In Kawamori's comments, he calls the VF-0 an advancement over the the VF-1. And on the Macross Zero page it's called a prototype. Usually, I would take Kawamori's word over the webpage anyday, but it's a little vague as to whether he means an advancement of his own personal design of the VF-1, or an advancement of the variable fighter within the Macross universe.

Looks like you're right. From what I read from the Japanese text, the VF-0 is a experimental testbed of overtechnology implementation for what seems like all current and future VF's. The only reason it looks like the VF-1 was because it was designed within the same time period, but the design is definitely an advancement, and not a precursor.

Also, whether or not we'll see the VF-1 is really based on how long the story is going to drag out. If you look, at the chronology on the compendium, the official rollout of the trial VF-1A takes place only two months after the events of Macross Zero!

  8. If Yamato made the new Macross Zero Destroid, I would like to see it with electrically powered rotating gatling gun barrels. Perhaps also a sound chip for the gun firing sound as well.

    Graham

    That would be awesome!

Are you just trying to up your post count?

I look at the toy forum, and every single post has Last Post by Commander McBride :o

Graham is right, you are a forum junky! :)

If this newest destroid has wheels, I wouldn't mind seeing it as one of those remote control laser tag type toys, or like those BB firing M1A1's from Tokyo-Marui.

  9. Sorry for asking a question that has probably been asked a million times by now. I am first getting into Macross (watched Robotech when I was younger a bit, bought most of Yamato's toys already) and I want to know which episodes/movies I should watch. I wanna start out with Macross first but I'm a bit confused as to if I should watch DYRL or the episodes or what first. Which is first? I wanna learn about Macross in chronological order (from the anime itself, not by reading about it from internet sites). Also, what about the other Macross series (Macross Plus, Macross 7). The way I understand it is that Macross Plus happens after Macross and that Macross 7 is like an abstract series about another dimension? Am I right on this?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciatted. I have been trying to find these answers for quite a while and I keep getting confused by conflicting information. Thanks and don't hate me for asking such "dumb" questions. I'm sure most of you know the answers to these.

The only one that happens in an alternate dimension is Macross II. That was probably the easiest way to explain a story line that made absolutely no sense in the whole Macross timeline.

You can find the timeline here:

It's a pretty good read. Probably make more questions than answers though. Here's my question, who's Scarlet Ohare? (besides Gone with the Wind)

    vf-0?

It looks sort of transformable.... doesn't it?

Sort of. It looks like it's in a number of different pieces; cockpit, upper fuslage, lower fuselage/legs, and backpack.

Yeah... thats what I meant. Should have added "slightly" before transformable.

Yeh. With a bit of tweaking it could probably get gerwalk mode without too much trouble.

All the way to battroid is a little bit of a reach tho.

  10. If that is the release date, then it would be "late" Fall.

The title is better translated as "A blue desparate struggle (or deadly struggle)." in English. The word can be used as "pale" or "blue". In this case, it is "blue".

Blue in Japanese can also mean young and inexperienced, somewhat similar to the word Green in English. It's just another Japanese pun that ends up being fairly difficult to translate. I have a feeling based on the box art and the title, we'll probably see a bit more fighting between Nora and Shin, and hopefully not just the one-sided slaughter we saw in episode 2.

And here's your strange Japanese fun fact...

The word for BLUE in Japanese (aoi, ao) in fact actually means green. A "green light" in Japanese is literally called a BLUE light, among other things. aoshingo, aonori, etc, etc.

You mean "Sei" which is the same Kanji character as "Ao". For example, Seinen or Seishounen, it means young guy or youth. They are the same character but pronounced differently. The Kanji character "Ao" is actually green in Chinese and Chinese uses a different character for blue. Also, the meaning of the Kanji characters of seinen or seishounen is the same in Chinese.

Nope. Both characters are similar in usage and meaning. They are fundamentally different characters, thus having the differing on-yomi, but in Japanese they are pretty much alike in meaning, thus having the same kun-yomi. While the contemporary usage is to simply use the character from SEInen, you see the fancy one whenever they have a need to be... well... fancy.

  11. I'd like some missles. Detachable missles that fit in the tubes. Maybe some opening parts in the armor, to see internal machinery, etc...

BTW, where can I find all those destroids you mentioned?

Your best bet is eBay, I guess... Toynami is supposed to reissue the 4 Robotech Destroids in slightly updated paint schemes. The original issues aren't worth much more than $12~$20, IMO. For vintage Destroids, you could try Robozone.com, although their prices aren't exactly the lowest. A friend once paid US$40 for one of those 1/144 Takatoku destroids. The 1/100 Conversion Kit can easily fetch US$150++ for a set in really good condition. The box IS really beautiful though :)

I heard the toynami reissues were canned.

Some mumbo jumbo about the original molds being degraded due to lack of consumer interest :p

  12. Are we going to see a slew of broken backpack hinges when the FASTPacks come out?  IIRC, the FaSTpacks require us to use the clip...

I guess we just have to wait and see. Only about a week or so now to go.

Yamato have told me it is safe to use the clip, but I don't believe them :o

Don't forget, the 1/48 FAST packs are going to come with that optional extrawhite plastic part, which attaches behind the back hatch. Yamato say that this is a dual function part. Firstly, it adds a bit of extra detail to that area and secondly, it is supposed to add a bit of reinforcement. However, that part can only be used in Battroid mode and has to be removed for transformation to Fighter or Gerwalk.

    Graham

    ....s  unds scary.......

Yeah, I have a low vis on the way and I dont want a $100 P.O.S., Im waiting to see from the other members and how thiers fair

Extra white plastic hatch? So the FP's aren't for the low viz valks?

Does anyone know the answer to this yet?

  13. For the Q-Rau and similar sized Zentradi gear, $100+ may indeed be the case. But for the smaller Destroids, I'm hoping they come closer to or below the 1/60 Valk's MSRP. It'll be pretty wierd to have them cost more than the VF-1!

I seem to remember the destroids being smaller than VF-1's, except for the Monster, that is. They also don't transform. I suppose, if they are going to cost around $100 it'll be due to high diecast content, and increased "bulk".

  14. I'd want to see an INSANE amount of articulation. Hip ball joints, knees, thigh twisting, etc etc. :)

When those pictures of those little fix figure silver prototypes of those destroids surfaced from that one convention (tokyo toy fair? I forget already) people slammed them saying stuff :) like "Tomahawk's shouldn't be able to pose like that". To me though, that was the coolest Tomahawk I've ever seen.

  15. In fighter mode, I'm pretty sure it would have to flip the backpack up to have the wings all the way back and touching.

    Graham

Sounds right. I think it was in episode 26 (right before the big battle) where we see a whole mess of VF-1's in hangar with backpacks up and wings fully swept.

  17. Not a Max, and not a Kakizaki, but somewhat close enough.

It's not finished, thus the super-light gray color. It'll be sanded down one more time, primed and patched a little more then repainted gun metal gray/dark gray. Hopefully I can finish this before I lose interest in it and just decide to screw the head down as is.
