  1. I didn't have to push the back plate in to make the fast packs to stay up. That is what the little back neck piece is for. You use it and the little clip hook to hold the FP mount in place.

    Merrell

There's that too. I have absolutely no idea how it is used since I own no fastpacks (yet... come on Kev, I'm dying here!), but depressing the backplate is the true transformation and it also helps keep the profile looking nice by having the backpack lie completely flat to the back. Unfortunately, the tabs that they have in place aren't the best fitting and the natural pull of the backpack wanting to "pop out" is enough to dislodge the hatch from the two tabs. All of my 1/48's show some sign of "poppage" except for one of my low viz's. Hopefully that extra piece they included will alleviate the problem somehow.

  2. I would like to get the new YF-19 in a different color than what the original looked like. Something along the lines of the 1/48 Low Viz, a more realistic scheme.

I also think that the YF-19 (along with it's similar incarnations) has the worst Gerwalk mode. It doesn't look very stable or technically functional with those wings hanging off the end and the arms set over them instead of under them. The armless Gerwalk mode however is more pleasing.

Despite their flaws, I am happy with the YF-19 Yamato made. They were a one of a kind, and my first Macross Plus Valkyrie (that I never knew about).

The actual gerwalk mode according to the lineart is pretty nice and quite stable looking.

Unfortunately, no toy has come close to looking anywhere near that cool, though it doesn't look so difficult to do.

If you want to talk about unstable looking gerwalks, take a look at the VF-17.

  3. For VT-1 Super O, I just figure out how to keep the fast pack up. The back pack slider arm has to lock all the way "into" the backpack, and it will lock together tightly.

As for 1/48 FP, I still don't have a clue.

Okay, I don't even know how to explain this wihtout showing pictures.

Did you make sure the backpack hatch is DEPRESSED underneath the 2 small locking tabs ? If the hatch is just lying flat to the back, then you've got it wrong. There's 2 little tab like fins on the back. One is part of the hatch, and one is on that little swinging piece of plastic. Make sure the swinging one is all the way down and not poking through the hole in the backpatch hatch, then depress the hatch PAST the level of the rest of the back and lock it into place underneat the two tabs on the right and left sides.

  4. Graham, in reference to your comments, well I think Egan may have hosed this one. When referring russian aircraft fixed armament, i.e. guns, the first two letters are the caliber. So the GsH-231 should be a 23mm and the GsH-371 should be a 37mm. The 23 is a common russian aircraft cannon size, the 37 as well, though they have not used it for a long time. Currently all modern russian birds use either a 23 or 30 mm cannon, though a few still use 27mm, but they are older planes. The number of guns it probably suspect too then, and if the lineart says two weapons that is waht I would put my money on. Hope that answered your question. BTW I love the Sv-51s design, so cool and unique.

Someone may have hosed it, but it wasn't him. Although your explanations may make better sense, the technical descriptions on the Macross Zero web page CLEARLY say 12.7mm minigun and 55mm gunpod.

  5. Yeah, I think the whole thing depends on the production crew, and as it looks too be mostly NZ-produced, I'll give it a shot (the last things they did were Whale Rider and LOTR :) ) Although an AV EVA would be nice, I could easily see Akira Watase as Asuka......

Ahh, here's where we all sub-conciously admit to being avid watchers of Japanese pornography...

  6. Can some valk expert list the valks on that scale chart in order for those of us who are post-TV-DYRL-challenged?

    Here are my guesses

    VF-1 (DYRL-SDF Macross)

    VF-4 (Flashback 2012)

    ???

    VF-11 (Macross Plus)

    ???

    VF-19 (Macross Plus)

    VF-21 (Macross Plus)

    Thanks!

    H

    VF-1

    VF-4

    VF-5000 (Macross 7 - Dynamite?)

    VF-11

    VF-17 (Macross 7)

    YF-19

    YF-21

  7. Woo, lots of votes for Macross Zero. I'm actually kind of shocked that Macross Zero would receive so many votes. I know the 0D is the best thing since sliced bread, but Macross Zero, like Macross DYRL, is just full of variants. I can already see people starting to complain about releases being repetitive. To a certain extent, the same goes with Macross 7. At least with Macross Plus, three releases, three different planes, and bam, it's all done.

  8. Well their orders to capture the SDF-1 say nothing about leaving the defense fighters alive. In fact, if they laid waste to all the VF-1's the Zentradi would have a much easier time capturing the SDF-1. I think it was the superiority of the fighters (remember Reactive (nuclear) Weaponry), and the fact that the Zentradi underestimated the actual amount of resistance they would receive from the Microns, and thus never really tried to apply overwhelming force until it was too late.

  9. Even though I'd really like a Kakizaki 1A, I think Max & Millia 1Js are more likely. <_<

Yeah. I really hope they'd make a Max 1J instead of a DYRL 1S. I'm quite tired of these colored stripe paintschemes.

  10. If I remember correctly, the catapult latch on the 1S is made of somewhat pliable plastic in comparison to the Low Viz's one. Remove it from the landing gear and apply a little pressure to the two connection points and hopefully it will be a little tighter. Be careful. I don't want you snapping the thing in two and blaming me for anything :p If it doesn't budge, then don't force it.

  11. I have always wanted to see a grittier Macross "Side Story" that parallels the first SDF Macross. Perhaps featuring a "nobody" flight group like Blue Squadron or something, a bunch of fresh out of flight school green pilots who fight through the trip back to earth from the botched space fold.

This series should be more true to the story of war and loss than the previous sugar coated Macross stories... I would actually like to see the entire "Blue Squadron" get wiped out in the final battle with the Badolza fleet. It would put a lot more importance on the original SDF Macross if we got to see the other people that flew with the "aces" and never made it home. It would go great lengths to putting a more human emotional face on Macross rather than the outrageous circus act it normally is. Kawamori and his gang tried to insert a lot of anti-war sentiment in the shows but it always comes off as stupid or goofy. I would also like to see more "love story" elements than just one "triangle" per show... perhaps the new show could involve the love stories of all the pilots... and how their partners feel when they get told "Tommy never came back from patrol".

that sounds cool, but havent we seen enough VF-1 stuff?

Sounds like Band of Brothers Macross-style.

That would be pretty sweet, although I'm a little hesitant to revisit the original series timeline since it'll have nothing really new.

  12. I've been playing around with a program called Fruity Loops, it's to make mixes and stuff and currently I'm working on a Macross Mix. I wanted to use "Let's News" From Macross Plus to scratch, but can't find an MP3 anywhere (I own the OST CD, but I don't know how to rip the track to an MP3 or Wav file).

Does anyone have a wav or mp3 of this? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

    See the pinned imacross thread.

  13. How did Shoji Kawamori earn the nickname Great Froating Head, anyway?  I've heard it a lot here, but must have missed something.

    vinnie

EDIT IN: If anyone has a copy of this picture please post it so that our newer brethen may be blessed by the Hory Froating Head.

Hahaha, now this I gotta see.

  14. I know this has been asked a million times but I would like to know the correct sequence of the Macross series (only the animated parts). I would like to get the other titles in the series. The compendium is too wordy for me... :p

    Timeline wise...

    Macross Zero -> SDF Macross/DYRL -> Flashback 2012 -> Macross Plus -> Macross 7

There's also Macross II that takes place pretty far in the future, but that's from an alternate universe and doesn't figure in story-wise with anything else.

  15. I picked up one too. I bought a Rook regular, and I sword it would be my only one, but it's kinda addicting. I see it there, and I pick it up, make some weird gay looking pose and put it back down again. I can't stop myself from changing the pose everytime I see it. I'm a little tempted to get the metallic shadow fighter now.
