Ten day bump. Would rather sell them here than auction, but... maybe no chance of that.
-
See the image for the six kits. Bought these around 4 years ago and with a recent layoff, they're part of the purge and rent/food/payments etc needs now.
My preference would be to get them into the hands of someone who will build them as opposed to them having to sit in storage b/c hey, no room and no time, alas.
Asking for $420 + shipping in the continental US (LIght but slightly larger packaging, I won't bottom line the shipping). Outside of the US it can get to be a pain, sorry. All basics are pretty straightforward, unopened etc and in great condition.
Preference for payment is a money order (PP is too much hassle for too little in return for immediate use of the funds etc.) Realize this can add a bit of time on to getting the MO and sending it, etc.
If you have any questions, drop a line and no, I won't sell individually.

Dan, short version: thank you!
Not sure what I was thinking in keeping that rear frame piece close to vertical.
I'm following the :48 valkyrie mostly because I can grab the calipers and go to town as I need to, create some of my own drawings from it. I think 90%+ of my reference (which I have a lot of and I'm sure i'll cringe at some of my decisions when I look closely) is in storage right now; sucks but there it is. So I'm a bit too dependent on the kit and not on looking through the concept drawings and sorting out the design and intent v/what's easy for model engineering.
Thanks again for this, may not have a chance to revisit til year's end, but great to get your input and get the energy for this back up.

Dan--
Got a question for you about resolving the back third of the fuselage, from the upward slant of the canopy frame on back.
I keep plugging away and creating new problems for myself, just been some time since I've subd modeled hard surfaces, but I can't quite go back to polys on this...
Edit is a more recent image of the mesh's trouble areas, if you have any time to give a pointer that'd be great. The smoothing I was hoping for, resolving that angle never really happened. Don't even get me started on the front sensor pod, that's been its own set of fun.
Also (and really most important), hoping the employment resolves itself right soon and that momentum and motivation return. This thread's been really inspiring, and plenty of just plain coolness.

Now turning your thread back over to you (I'll get off my duff and start my own when I think it's worthy)
Best,
/D

*taps on microphone* This thing on? Dan, wondering if you're crazy enough to post wireframes? I wonder how 'solid' some regions would look... hope there's occasional time for this.
-
Still hoping to to see if the 1S has that particular illustration, so fingers crossed. May not get one for a bit.
I have typically used any/everything to create my DYRL Strike, incl multiple packages (prefer to model in modo these days, but the day job centers around Maya, so I may rig in Maya as I'll probably be doing final surfacing and rendering there too). And now looking into Rhino, possibly going to learn on it by re-working the lower legs, as it and modo play nice.
You've mentioned working hard surface in ZB, too. Frankly, I don't yet see the point; I like the plane control that you can get, and have sen a ton of work incl Iron Man, but I'll stay with ZB for organic for now, and only as I need to.
Ever onward, best of luck going forward.

Hey Dan, this has been fun to follow. Long road to haul, huh?
Was curious what you're using for front/rear image planes, as I haven't seen anything that matches up with the :48 Vermillion 1J. Does the DYRL 1S have a front/rear split like the :72s' instr. sheets?
And curious, saw you're using Maya, is this nurbs, poly, sub-d or whatever as needed?
Best luck going forward.

I know more than a few will be making it by, but also pointing out that, man, you can go back 25 years to BayCon '86 for a proper Anime programming track, and 20 years this year since we got AnimeCon '91 off the ground. Macross was a huge topic that weekend, so it's great that bits of its legacy and new works still come 'round.
Hope to catch folks there.

Any chance of someone being able to get images of the legs from straight above or below, and behind, with the covers on and off? I'm really curious how the shapes look...

There are only two sequences where the 3D really delivered- both are flight sequences. It's use is better than Avaturd, but still just a gimmick. Not sure if everyone noted that Roger Deakins was a pretty big part of why the film was tight in its cg camera. DWAs best yet!

Probably a bit early to ask folks to think on it too hard, but I know reg is only 20 bucks for the weekend right now and it's a pretty relaxing weekend. Also have read that a couple of Mari's shows have been a bit undersized in the audience. Hopefully that trend busts and this is a good sized group.
-
I know Fanime is bet now and then too, and that Sac seems to be a relax-a-con and cosplay event more than anything (haven't been to one), but Mari's scheduled to perform. Wondering if anyone's going and if a sm. MW gathering is in order?

Oh those wings... gah... all right, so they're 'getting it right'. Driving me nuts is just an added bonus.
Thanks for the reply...

I was checking a few things bet my HAS. VF-1S Strike and the Minmay Guard Battroid... and man are there some differences in the size of some elements. I don't recall any reason why this would be so.
Specifically looking at the lower legs, which have even more of a difference bet the fighter/battroid than the leg add-ons do. Just curious if this is a weight/balance need, an aesthetic decision... or...???

I suppose this happens when your books are 2000 miles away...
I am trying to find character sheet or line art of Hikaru in the DYRL flight suit. I have a sculpture that I'm starting soon and need to get the armature started this week. This is a way of saying that I'm hoping to get ref tonight or early tomorrow AM, so I can work out scale and any quirks. All of my ref is in Houston, I'm in northern Ca. A character sheet would rock, having a hard time (even in Chronicles) finding anything, especially the hard surface elements.
Any links, tips, or such would be really appreciated. I'm on the clock for this one and will have it done in time for the Mar. 20 SF meet-up.
Many thanks in advance.

I'm in, I'll be staying over the 19th and maybe 20th.

Let's make Max a woman and keep Mirya a woman!!

You intrigue me, please elaborate further.

I'm not a fan of remakes either, or of trodding on what's been established previously. So I suppose all I can do is wonder, 'What could be accomplished?' with a remake that we only had hinted at or would like to be expanded upon, etc?
Would you look more into the Zen/Mel backgrounds? Start the story sooner? Remove flashbacks and actually cover those time periods? I'm not a fan of multi-generational arcs, so that'd be tough to do and have it be satisfying.
I don't see anything wrong with the mecha designs, but some systems could be added (talked about vector thrust, etc) and sure, bring some bits to prominence. But this is a story about heroes and people who are 'worth writing about'. Bring it all up to one level and it gets boring. I don't give a damn about Joe Blow in the VF-1A that got blowed up real good, or the same in the Monster who got fragged or whatever. Focus on the right characters and what they need/use to tell the story. Got a fave bit of hardware that's stuck in the background? Sorry, that was its role.
For any animation house, the look and feel of CG mecha anim has improved a great deal, though still sticks out. If you go that route, as with F, then you've got to get a character animation team in that can match the fluidity and consistency, but keep them grounded.

For me, after the 19th... heck the 20th is my BDay, and I'll be finishing up 6 weeks of sculpting and dying to get out for a while :-)
Anyone else?
btw, should mention this is preference only, I'll head down for it at about any time, but a bit of notice to make accommodations would rock, so later also helps there.

Thought I'd throw another, 'Anyone know if the trailer for False Songstress has at least made it into theaters?'. My best friends in Japan... are here in the US for another month. :-p

So far behind... just catching up on Macross F and Gundam 00 (have only watched S1, not sure I want to get into S2) and re-watching Onegai Sensei.
Enjoying being able to watch a few episodes of MF at a time, on my pace, but going to catch up to the fansubbers soon. :-)
Lined up:
Hikaru No Go
Strike Witches
Bakuretsu Tenshi (too busy to catch it a while back)
Reading:
Battle Royale novel.
Contemplating re-visiting a load of '80s and early '90s when my CW contract ends (if I don't get over to Singapore)
So that'd be:
some Yamato
Urusei Yatsura
fight iczer-one
and more recent titles too..
anyone have any 'must-sees of the last five years or so? Work really got me down to only catching a couple of series a year.

Have to jump in with more M7 harping... never saw it, never will... I plan to re-visit MII at some point to get it all under my belt so to speak. Re-watching F now, and will rewatch Macross in its new remastered state with friends who haven't seen it or DYRL... and then see about MII. Crazy. Takes a lot of energy to be a fan!

Either Santa Rosa, San Rafael, Nicasio or San Francisco, CA... or maybe Singapore soon. Have Valkyrie will travel.
Or something...
