Depending on how rough there is one thing you can try, I read it over at starshipmodeler. Paint it with thick latex/house paint. this will fill in much more than any type of modeling paint and will hopefully leave you with only some minor divits/scratches/etc to fill with squadron putty. I would use a flat house paint, using gloss could result in adhersion problems with the following layers of paint/putty that will go above it. Also test the compatibilities of all the paints on a peice of cardboard or such. Good luck

Just wondering, the only thing I found was at Valk exchange and it says fall 2003?
-
as far as the legs are concerned, there are only 2 screws, one under a rubber plug rivet at the top of the leg, that is not glued, and under an easily removable rectanglular panel, the rivet that is superglued does not need to be removed to disassemble the leg.
-
I did it, drill the holes, swap the backpack witht the 1j, swap the lower arms (no need to remove any screws they pop out) paint on the black striped on the arms. Done. Good luck
if you want it to be the Hikaru, you may want to do it with a max 1a and paint all the blue to red, the base colors do not match from the hikaru 1a to the 1j

Looking good, both of them! I was a huge fan of these show as a kid....
Anyone else looking forward to the Sci-Fi channel redo?
I'm pretty excited to check out the new show, I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. I am also looking forward to the Game, it may not be perfect, but I've been waiting 20 years to blow up some cylons, kind of like waiting1 18 years to fly a valk (battlecry)

It's dirtier than the pics show, for some reason my digital cam sometimes shows things dirtier than they are and sometimes cleaner, must be time of day or something.

another look

I got this off ebay for super cheap because it had been started (which actually made it more work!) and had no decals, I printed the decals myself from a scan off the net. I was burnt on macross the other day so spent a few hrs putting this together, it actually only took me part of 1 night and a bit of the next morning. I made the stripes a little more red to give it a bit more agressive of a look.

i know this may be a day later and $ short but what I usually do is seal the tape with krylon crystal clear, just enough on the edge, then a mist coat of the matt finish. Just check paint compatability

dude...i like ordered a 1/60 hikaru VF-1A on friday from HLJ and they said it wouldn't be processed until the 6th (over there in japan) and today i didn't see the hikaru anywhere...dude, i guess i missed out...they should've been able to process it by now...this sucks sooooo much...i hope they at least send me the other stuff i ordered...i'm just upset that i waited (even if it was just a day!) to order that stuff (i didn't have enough money in the bank either)....this just sucks!!!!!!
Did you check you status on their order status page? It may be in processing, check it out, that's what happened to me with the 1/55 1s

Awesome, i always wanted to make myself a decepticon jetfire, but never thought of a 1d head, very cool.....
-
Great work Jesse
Looks awesome, applying all those decals, your more patient than me these days... -
I just ordered a Gundam kit that may have square finger hands that will fit the 1/48 well, if they do I will most likely customize them to have the signature rectangle on the back of the hands, have an easy attachment system to the 1/48, try and find a way to tint them so they match the 1/48, and recast them if people want

i like mine, but its never going into battroid mode, the chest plate just wont slide down. I don't mind too mch, because it looks better as a gerwalk or fighter, but still... for paying 80-90, you'd kinda expect a little better quality. overall, i say get one, its still a tight toy, even if mine is limited to 2 modes.
My chestplate slider was so bent i needed to take the thing apart and fix it to get it into battroid mode.
-
okay folks,
i figured out why so many of us are having problems with transforming the VE and VT into battroid mode.
you have to pull out the front landing gear and the chest plate should slide nicely.

if that doesn't work, then you have to disassemble the front section of the plane and bend the sliding plate "straighter" and that should solve your problems.

sorry if someone has already posted this, but i figured it couldn't hurt.

Yeah, I had to disassemble part of the nose to get that thing straight, nothing like buying an $80.00 toy and having to work on it.....

I have recast the sazabi hands in a fixed position for the 1/55, the right with the trigger finger for the gun and the left in a position that would cradle the gun pod. If you are interested PM me. I am also working on a set for the 1/48, i just need to throw them in a mold.

Yamato's are a little bigger, especially the fast packs...see link

Jetfire, although he stayed Jefire for only a couple of weeks, I painted the black and yellow chest stripe, the leg stripes, used UN spacy decals from 1/100 model kits, put un spacy kites on the wing and on the tail fins where the skulls should have been, painted the nose white, all with sloppy and goopy testors hand paints. And, I painted the armor black (must have been color blind). my very first custom, must have been 13 or so........
-
Between $85.00-$100.00, I got mine for $110.00 brand new in the box, although I know the MSRP is higher.
-
I did a few customs with the reissues and i needed to "guide" the nose by inserting an exacto knife where I could and kind of slowely opening the nose like a clam. I never broke anything but I will say do this with care, for the parts and your hands.....
-
Making the armor removable would be coo...but a berar...no?
Huh? do you mean it would be cool, but a bear? Jesse you may need some coffee.

-
I started one that I may finish in a million years or so.....the legs are the biggest mod IMO, they need to be thinned from both the front and the sides, the arms also need to be thinned and the shoulder launchers need to have material added to make them fit the hasegawa's thinner shoulders. the complexity of the chest depends on 2 things, 1 if you want the armor to be removable and 2, if you want the missle doors to open.
-
Is that a jetfire or a reissue....there are some issues with the head fitting reissues.
-

these side panels are nearly all scratch built, only way to get the height correct.....
Yamato 1/48 spare hands ?

Had the same idea and ordered them, the 1/35 hands are smaller than the yamato 1/60 hands, don't waste your $.
