  1. I've been getting the Hasegawa catalogue for years, and they've pretty much never advertised upcoming Macross models unless they were already announced at the time the catalogue was published. Last year's catalogue didn't mention the reactive armour VF-0, for example. So, I wouldn't let lack of notice in the catalogue get anyone down.

This years catalogue has an insert in it listing upcoming and new releases for 2007. No Macross kits are shown on the insert although that may not mean anything because as I said before the Macross models themselves are not in the main catalogue but on another fold out 4 page insert.

  2. Does anyone know if there is a kit available for any of the HWT's (Humanoid Walking Tank) from Gunparade March?

I remember seeing a very small article in one of the japanese hobby mags but was unsure if it was talking about a kit or a one off custom and I can't find the article again.

Any leads would be appreciated, thanks.

  3. did you put some sort of sealer or clear coat over the decals?

Er if you mean did I do it properly, then yes ;)

I usually put a coat of gloss (Testor's Glosscoat) then apply the decals using a setting solution so they conform to model's surface better, let them dry for at least 24hrs than apply either a gloss or matt (Testor's Dulcote) coat over the the entire model as required.

You can eliminate the gloss coat part by painting the model in gloss paint to begin with then applying a matt finish if required after completion.

I always apply a finishing coat as I weather my models using pastels and they will rub off or smudge if not protected.

  4. Hello,

I just purchased a Hasegawa Ractive Armor Macross Zero kit and the parts on the white spruces all have a yellow color to them and are not brillant white as in other Hasegawa kits. Was this normal? Thanks. Any input would be helpful. I think they have prematurely yellow since the kit is fairly new.

No problem it's supposed to be like that.

Why does it have to be "brilliant white" when you'll be painting it anyway

  5. (all decals no matter how good will eventually dry out and have a tendency to flake off.)

I've got 20+ year old models with still perfect decals. Guess I haven't waited long enough

Decals are thinner and conform to the surface better giving a painted on look if done properly. They require a lot more effort that stickers but are worth it if you don't want the toy with stickers look. B))

  6. oh crap now i'm worried about transforming it... kept in the box and i'm going to wait for Graham's step by step transformation if he will post any.

    Be adventurous :p

It's not rocket science. I transformed mine in around 5 minutes. The only confusing part for me was how to unlock the hips  but with a bit of brute force and ignorance ;) all was well.

Must admit it's a bit disappointing :( So small. It marvellous what good photography can make something look like :o

  7. Because they knew, based on the interior of the SDF-1, the general size of the aliens that had previously inhabited it :D

    The doorways in the SDF-1.

True some areas of the ship were "giant sized" but why would you design your premium front line state of the art fighter based on the size of a couple of doors in an alien ship that you had no idea where it came from on the off chance that the doors were for beings and not some sort of vehicle?

In answer to the original question, it was probably done so fluff freaks on sites like this could speculate the topic to death :p:unsure:

  8. The VF-1 was designed to have to fight zentraedi out of their pods and armor, however once the UN Spacy saw how big the pods and armor were they made sure to make their valks larger in order to be able to fight them more effectively. Afterall a zent or melt in power armor is much larger then a VF-1.

How did UN Spacy design the Valk to fight an enemy they didn't know existed until they come knocking on the front door in the first episode :blink:

  9. [my conspiracy theory]

if you're close, they ship you nice boxes since it doesn't cost as much to ship it back if you're pissed.

but if you're a US customer, they specifically pick out the worst boxes because you're half way around the world and they know it'll cost a US customer an arm and a leg to ship it back.

    [/conspiracy theory]

    added:

when i say boxes, i don't mean the shipping box, but the actual box the toy comes in.

i bought the aoshima aliens dropship from them, its was $200 with the APC. the shippgin box was fine but the side of the toy box was completely ripped and there were fingerprints on the toy itself. thats all it took to add them to my permanent blacklist.

    That's a bit of a bugger :(

Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet but then again I'm not much of a box man (well cardboard one's anyway ;) )

  10. if you're a box person, don't buy from HLJ.

if you read there TOS, they offer no guarantee on box conditions.

this means they can ship you the most f-ed box they got.

for this one reason alone, i don't buy from them.

I've purchased a fair bit of stuff from them over the past year and the only time the boxes have been damaged was when the mindless gorilla's in the postal department decided to stress test the packaging and most of the time it was the outside packaging that suffered, all inside boxes were fine.

The one thing that they could improve on is their order processing time, sometimes it is sooo slow.
