What Current Anime Series Are You Watching?
thegunny replied to s_i_t_h_l_o_r_d's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Watched the 2nd episode of Allison to Lillia today. Started out good but became a bit slow towards the end but still a good story building episode. The previews for next episode look like it's going to get a bit fast & furious, can't wait! Also watched the 1st episode of Zettai Karen Children. Different. Has quite a few subtle jokes that may get missed if you're not just a little bit twisted. Cute throw away entertainment. I'll definately be watching the rest. -
Got the latest edition of Figure Oh today and thought people might be interested in the Frontier article.

Here's my take on the kits. Due to the overwhelming amount of kits I've settled on HGUC (High Grade Universal Century) 1/144 kits for all the variants and MG kits for the main versions. The HGUC kits are reasonably detailed, quite cheap and don't take up as much space when completed. The older 1/144 non HG kits are a bit ho-hum but then if you want to have a complete set you have to go with some of the older kits (they are dirt cheap which helps offset the lack of detail). Gundam 00 kits are just called HG or FG as it isn't in the Universal Century but they are the quality. The MG 1/100 kits are pretty good with heaps of details and parts but are fairly large in some cases and to do them justice you really need to take your time with them. The EX kits are really high detail kits that require full painting and all the tricks in the book to do them properly. Their scale varies depending on the subject but they are usually restricted to support vehicles and space ships. I think the Hildolfr is the only mecha in that range. If you want a challenge then get the 1/400 Mussai or White base. They are absolutely huge! I haven't started on mine as I've got nowhere to put the finished models

Looks like a pile of crap made up by some bored, underworked, statistical pencil necks that don't have a clue. Was anyone on this site actually surveyed to get the results or did the they just use their "great internet savy" to make up the numbers?

Allison & Lilia new sky-adventure show
thegunny replied to yui1107's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wouldn't say it's like Last Exile apart from the old world feel. It looks like it's going to be an adventure tale along the lines of some of the old time boy's own tales that used come out of the UK in the 40's & 50's. I rather liked the first episode. It flowed well and didn't skip around leaving great holes that made you think "WTF" just happened as some shows tend to do these days. A blonde lead is a bit of change too. -
What does everyone think of Macross II?

Loved it. Great sound track, good mecha for the most part, prefer it to Mac+ any day. -

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't say Azamanga got it's ideas from Lucky Star as it was made a good deal before in 2002 but you can see the similarities. -

Was just reading up on that last night. I reckon I'll be watching it as well. Just finished Azamanga Daioh. Absolutely fantastic! Can definately tell where Lucky Star got some of it's ideas from. Can anyone suggest any other similar series as its nice to have a break from teenage angst mecha now and again. -

Just finished Sakura Wars OVA, TV & movie. Pretty good I thought. I reckon the TV series was the best of the 3 although it did start to bog down a bit towards the end but then again I suppose whacking uber demons is a serious business. Also knocked over Super Robot Wars OG. The dub was unbelieveable . It must have been done by chinese school kids with a different one doing each episode. One episode would be really good then the next 5 would be utter gibberish then a good one would slip in followed by more gibberish. Oh well at least there was plenty of Super (insert name of weapon here) attacks . Have just about finished Asamanga Daioh and wow I've got to say I'm luvin' it! It's just so different and at times hilarious. I've got Lucky Star, Claymore, Blue Drop & Dragonaut queued up so must go. Where's the remote? -

The OVA came out in April 88. The first movie came out in Jul 89. Yes the movie was before the TV series (Oct 89 to Sep 90) but definately NOT before the OVA. -

As you've already watched the movies (which is jumping the gun a bit ) I suggest you look at the OVA first as the movies were set in the OVA time line. Doing it in that order makes things a little clearer although it doesn't really matter as it's all good. The movies were meant to be a bit more on the serious side, especially the last one which really didn't have much to do with Section 2 until right at the end. You'll get your fair share of laughs and action with the OVA & the TV series Just as a bit on the side so to speak watch Mini Pato as well. A silly little way to kill around 15 minutes (at least I think it ran for around that long). -
TTHE PROJECT IS DONE - 3 YEARS IN THE MAKING - PRO BUILD

Have to agree with PetarB. Not bad but without some better in focus pics they look pretty ordinary. For that amount of time I would have expected some better basing but that's me. If you're happy with them, then that's all that matters. -
I voted for Roblowtech but I feel just about any dub is a hack. I never listen to the dubs if I can help it as I feel that US voice actors (especially the girls) just don't have the vocal range to get across the meaning of the lines like the Japanese do. I feel they tend to over do it which spoils it for me plus as I'm not american the less american accents I have to hear the better

Patlabor for sure Watch the OVA before the TV series. I reckon it adds to the whole experience and the opening theme is better IMHO. -

Just lately I've become hooked on Momoi Halko Just can't seem to stop playing her songs. So much energy and she really puts everything into her performances. Solo or with Under 17, just give me more

Remake - The Day the Earth Stood Still
thegunny replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Damn we'll have to change the opening song of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Keanu Reeves was ill the day the earth stood still I don't think so! -
Nice pics but I don't remember them having pencil necks in the anime Glad I got to see them close up before I brought any.

Have to agree. Just watched the first 5 episodes and boy what a let down. Absolutely nothing like the original The animation is washed out and not really up to the original's standard, I don't think the voice acting is as good and the show moves like a snail on valium. The only thing going for it is it follows the manga pretty closely. I'll stick with it as I'm a sucker for Henrietta & Triela but I wish it would pick up the pace. -

Thought I'd jump on the bandwagon so here's a few shots my humble collection of Macross and various other goodies. All 1/60 Valks except for the Bandai's & Toynami's on the second shelf. Close up of the top shelf Close up of the second shelf Close up of the 3rd shelf Close up of the bottom shelf. Only have 3 1/48's (prefer the 1/60's ) Here's my fridge combat zone. Here's a few non Macross figures for those who like something different. Patlabor, Last Exile, Thunderbirds, Gunslinger Girl, Ikki Tousen, Appleseed, Intron Depot, Suzumiya Haruhi and few others. Finally some more Patlabor and a Mad Dog. -

How many times have you watched episode one of Frontier?
thegunny replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
Gee I feel like a heretic I've only watched it twice. The original when it first became available and a fan sub a few weeks back. Sorry but can't see the point in watching it a zillion times as there's plenty more anime that needs watching. -
Wonder how long this last before the all stifling Games Workshop ask them to pull it.
