  1. News Flash

HHH to infect the film industry!!

    From IGN Filmforce:

September 16, 2003 - World Wrestling Entertainment star Triple H, whose real name is Michael Paul LeVesque, is looking to break into the movie business. According to today's Hollywood Reporter, the Game has signed on to Jornada del Muerte (Journey of Death), from writer-director John Milius (Conan the Barbarian, Apocalypse Now).

Milius reportedly wrote the project specifically for Triple H.  The story is described by THR as "a modern-day Western set in the Southwest that involves motorcycle gangs, drug trafficking and broken codes of honor."  The film will be the first produced under Vince McMahon's newly-formed WWE Films banner.

There's also word that the Cerebral Assassin has signed on to star in Blade: Trinity.  No details on his role in that film were available, except that he'll "go up against Wesley Snipes."

Sounds like Triple H is hoping to follow in the footsteps of another WWE star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who is poised to take Hollywood by storm with his forthcoming action comedy, The Rundown.  We won't be officially reviewing the flick until closer to it's release, but our reviewer calls The Rock's performance "star-making."  It looks like a really solid, fun flick!

    Where's my :puke: emoticon?

Actually, isn't this a good thing since it will get HHH out of the WWE or at least reduce the time he's holding the belt? :)

  2. toynami pisses me off wirth their delays.

    BTW.

Do any of you MPC lovers like the HCM more?

    discuss!!!

I was never a fan of the HCM; a poorly representation of the VF-1 then the older 1/55ths and it seems like their fingers were prone to breaking. I have never owned an HCM and currently have no desire to persue one.

  3. My one question about HG and BW is, why would HG need to pay BW any more if HG already owns, not licenses those rights. Maybe I totally misunderstand something that someone has said. But, it seems to me that TP already made its payment with the rights transfer, and that no more is owed. Unless HG still makes some payments to BW of which I am not aware.

    Anyone with enlightenment?

Simple, Big West would refuse to hand over any materials (ie. films, line art, reference materials, etc.). It can also tell companies like Bandai and Yamato not to play ball with HG (as in releasing their Valk toys under the Robotech name) because it would negatively effect their business relations... otherwise saying, Big West may no longer give licenses to any company that goes over its head to work with Harmony Gold. If some of us are correct, Toykyo Pop may have put itself in this situation and may have a difficult time directly getting any kind of future rights or exclusives from Big West.

  4. Oh, is that all... :p Geeze, I asked the question I got an answer, I mean Graham comes here all the time with Yamato info and his word is considered holy. I've got a personal direct experience with a HG employee who would know. If I were in a court of law I could testify to what that person said, do I need to put my hand on a Bible or something?

Graham has had over 3 years of proving himself as a worthy and accurate source... notice how he is able to get all this information along with pictures and actual physical prototypes of Yamato's stuff? :)

  5. Live action movie? Ummmmmm no. Unless I hear something in the effect of Larry Hama has his hand in it and he doesnt have restrictions, I am in no way gonna watch it. I mean, I like GI Joe but dont deface it. Hollywood has screwed up wayyyy too many movie adaptations.

As a big fan of Larry Hama's GI Joe work, I completely agree.

  6. But as seen in Macross and Macross Zero, the anti-UN has its own fixed wing and variable (as in transformable) aircraft so there might be a need to have an Agressor/Adversary unit to simulate their paint jobs and tactics. Also doesn't the anti-UN remain in existance until at least 2050 (aren't they the main bad guys in VF-X2)?

  7. ANN is no more or less ignorant to the facts than anyone here. However, I believe their information is more reliable because they don't appear to be biased to either side.

I think you're exaggerating the "HG lost everything" statement, although I can't remember exactly how it was presented. IIRC, they reported the court case decision and speculated that this PERHAPS meant HG may lose a great deal of power regarding the Macross franchise.

    Here you go, SuperO:

Harmony Gold does not own Macross License - Japanese Courts rule

Our good friend Jason Gong has informed us of an ongoing legal litigation between Harmony Gold & Tatsunoko and Big West over the Macross License. Harmony Gold, which has always claimed exclusive ownership of the Macross License, has blocked the North American importation and release of Macross based merchandise in the past and licensed the Macross Anime to AnimEigo for DVD release.

However a recent Japanese ruling states that Tatsunoko, the Japanese company that originally sold the Macross license to Harmony Gold, did not own the Macross license in the first place and was never in any position to sell that license to Harmony Gold. According to the ruling Big West, the original creators of Macross, own the international rights. Based on this ruling Big West has obtained an injuction barring Harmony Gold from selling or licensing further Macross merchandise.

The Robotech "Macross Saga", which is based on Macross, is in no way affected by these ongoing legal matters.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Absolutely terrible, piss poor, unconscionable (sp?) reporting, IMHO. Got all the facts wrong, and other than the edit, which said that TMS was not affected, said that HG had nothing. No mention of "perhaps" whatsoever. Especially the injunction against HG. HG wasn't even a party to the suit. And this article cause days of confusion, anger, cheering, and angst on these boards.

And this article caused more of "HG is a bunch of liars" when it released its own press release saying that it was not affected by the decision because it was in Japan and HG was not a party. Even the "Japanese source" says nothing other than BW won.

One thing you Harmony Gold defenders have never noticed is that after Toynami's "Macross Super Poseables" were released as an exclusive off of rt.com during March of 2002, Harmony Gold has done NOTHING additional with it so called license or rights to the Macross TV series... otherwise nothing else has come out with the SDF Macross logo, the Valkyrie name, the original Japanese characters names, etc.... it's just been the "Macross Saga" that's been getting all the props and merchandise.

The Feb. 2002 ruling from Tokyo DID have an effect on Harmony Gold. Furthermore, HG's failure to bring things full circle with the Valkyrie Exchange, Blasto Toys, et al is further evidence of HG's weak standing.

  8. Things that don't say what you want them to aren't considered "serious" news sources.

I hate myself for getting back into this...but as to ANN's credibility....they have none. They are blatantly Anti-Harmony Gold and have little journalistic integrity. While it is ok to have an opinion (even a strong one), you aren't supposed to let it become personal. ANN let it be personal.

EDIT: And to back up what others are saying...none of us has credibility either. All of our rantings are based on fan perceptions. :p

If you frequently keep your eyes on ANN, they have many a time posted Robotech and Harmony Gold related items in a non-slanted, unbiased way. :)

  9. I paid $300 for a complete Jetfire (box and everything) back in January 2000. Just a few months later, Kevin Lam was telling me of Yamato/Toycom starting up work on their VF-1 designs! :p

Knowing what I know now, I probably would have past on getting any Jetfires, but at the same time I'm still glad I have this unique part of Valkyrie history. :)

  10. I have the Stig/Scott regular figure and the green metallic Yellow/Lancer figures so far. Will be getting the full regular poseable set along with the metallic blue Stig/Scott and red metallic Houquet/Rook figures from the VE in just a few more days.

So far, I like this figure. :) It should be remembered that the Legioss is blockier then the Valkyrie from the get go, so thus its figure is a little blocky.

  11. This may not apply to every Gamestop in the US, but apparently some of the Gamestops in this part of the Midwest (southeast Nebraska) are starting to clear their MPC VF-1's for 50% off! :o I was able to an MPC Max for $30 and an MPC Myria for $40... my birthday is in 2 days so I consider it an early birthday gift to myself. B)

  12. *Sniffle* I didn't realize it was to start today! :( At least I won't miss episode 2, VCR's all set! :D

I've already picked up a few of the figures (Captain Gundam and Zapper Zaku) and they are definitely a change of pace over the regular Gundam figures. Guess I'll see if SD's entertaining or not (Zeta's what I'm anxious to see!).

  13. This is the review of the Harmony Gold Macross VHS tape I did for Macross World back in the spring of 2001 (of course it is now available on one of the Robotech DVD boxsets):

Though it sounds hard to believe, Harmony Gold originally intended on releasing Super Dimension Fortress Macross in virtually complete form, dubbed into English, to the US back in 1984. Before Robotech came into being, the first three episodes of Macross were dubbed into English using virtually most of the voice actors that would end up working on the Macross Saga episodes of Robotech. This single tape was available in either the VHS and Beta formats. All 36 episodes of Macross were originally to be directly released to home video.

This English dubbing of Macross stays pretty faithful to the original material. Virtually all the content is intact (only the few seconds where Hikaru/Rick blacks out and dreams of flying with Roy is oddly enough cut), most of Haneda Kentaro's original soundtrack is intact, the SDF-1 is called the Macross, VF-1's are called Valkyries, the mid transformation mode for the VF-1 is Gerwalk, the island the Macross lands on is called South Atalia island, and there is no mention of the "Robotech Masters" or "Zor". A few of the notable changes include a few name changes (Hikaru Ichijo becomes Rick Yamata and Misa Hayase becomes Lisa Hayase) and the opening credit music and a few other scores are replaced by Ulpio Minucci music. We are also introduced to a little bit of the cheesy voice acting that would be common in Robotech (any moment I was expecting Rick to blurt out, "Gee golly willickers, Batman, oops, I mean Roy!" LOL:)) and Carl Macek's "styling" of adding dialogue where it previously didn't belong and making up technologies that didn't exist (since when did the Zentradi have "Phaser X" cannons?!?).

As for the availability of this tape, I believe it is quite rare. During the last year and a half of watching Ebay, I have seen this tape pop up only twice. The first time I saw it, I was able to snag it for just $25. The second time I saw an auction for it, the final bid ended somewhere over $50. In both auctions, the tapes came with their original clamshell casings.

No matter what you may think of Harmony Gold and Robotech, I would extremely recommend getting this tape. It is a very unique piece of Macross history and gives us a glimpse of what could have been in regards to Macross being properly established in the US.

  14. weren't they gonna be like $500?

For $500, I think they wouldve sold. I know some people cant put thier money whare thier mouth is. He wouldve made $25,000 if he sold 50 of them, not a bad income for what i consider a hobby. Off topic, but my buddy works for a hobby rocketry place and some of the rockets cost upwards of $30,000 and they dont guaranty recovery or explosion. They cost on average $2,000-$3,000 for each launch for the big ones,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,now thats an expensive hobby

I'm into high power model rocketry big time. The hobby isn't THAT expensive. B)

custom stuff for rich guys is ;) , ive seen $2000 worth of carbon fiber and weeks of work go into thiese things, just on the body

There are some projets, like those who are trying to reach the edge of space, who's projects may reach in the tens-of-thousands-of-dollars rangem so there are those exceptions. :) Some rocketeers flying H through M class have used Kevlar and carbon fiber (along with fiber glass) for strong, light weight construction.

The thread may now return to its topic! :D
