Speaking of which. So, are the VF-171s in Delta basically VF-171EXs without the VF-19 engines and EX-Gear?

They are standard issue VF-171s given the circumstances that Brisingr cluster is at the edge of Milky Way and Local UN gov't developed their own 5th gen Valk to get some gold bar from other nearby member states. Changing whole fleet of oldie 171 to EX standard is costly while they are just for maintaining peace and keep out the local threats

Unfortunately, there is currently no art for either of them.

The YF-26 is only mentioned in passing in Variable Fighter Master File: VF-25 Messiah as the third of three competing prototype 5th Generation main VFs that was produced under the "Project Triangler" codevelopment project between the Macross Frontier, Macross Olympia, and Macross Galaxy fleets.  Each fleet used the YF-24 Evolution as a starting point and developed their own prototype based on a mixture of the fleet's proprietary technology and shared technology.  The idea was that the winning design would become the Next Main Fighter of all three fleets.  Macross Frontier produced the YF-25, Macross Olympia produced the YF-26, and Macross Galaxy produced the YF-27.  Macross Olympia's YF-26 dropped out of the competition relatively early, and the Master File does not include any pictures of it.  (The winning design was ultimately Macross Frontier's YF-25, though since Macross Galaxy didn't participate in good faith it was only Macross Olympia that joined Macross Frontier as the earliest adopters of the VF-25.)

Whether there is a YF-28 at all is unclear.  Much like the YF-26, the YF-28 is mentioned only in passing and in one book.  In this case, the sixth chapter of Macross the Ride.  In the scene in question, representatives of Macross Galaxy are mulling over the demonstrated performance of the YF-25 Prophecy and comparing it to the data leaked to them by LAI that they were using to complete the VF-27 and hypothesize (correctly) that there must be another model of fighter under active development in the Frontier fleet besides the YF-25.

Thank you for your clarification and also all the quotes from books are being very helpful to see the whole Macross VF's R&D works

Kawamori did the mecha designs in this show.  I remember seeing them launch drones where the ones they used looked exactly like the Ghosts from Macross Zero.

oh, that explains why that jet look oddly familiar with later Valkyrie and share some resemblance of VF-9

It's pretty firmly in the "sci-fi magic" category.

Gravity control technology in Macross uses a form of exotic matter called heavy quantum that exists partly in three dimensional space and partly in fold space. Most of its mass is stored in fold space, and they control how much of that mass protrudes into three-dimensional space using fold waves. By doing so, they can control how much gravity the heavy quantum produces in three dimensional space and manipulate it to produce very localized artificial gravity. The same effect is also used inside thermonuclear reactors in Macross to compress fuel until fusion begins and contain the resulting plasma, and it's also used in thermonuclear warheads and super dimension energy cannons as well.

It's not anti-gravity in the sense that it is not canceling out the planet's gravity. It's more like the ship is introducing a second, very localized gravitational field in order to make itself fall up at the same rate that it is falling down. A separate gravity field inside the ship prevents the crew from falling up.

In the Macross the First manga, the malfunctioning gravity control system causes some of the ship's surroundings to fall up towards it while it is taking off.

It's very different to the Gundam franchise's Minovsky Craft system, which uses the exotic Minovsky particles to produce an effect that is essentially a very localized and powerful form of magnetic levitation.

Thank you for solving the puzzle that buzzing me, now I can go take a deep rest without worry.

The VF-4 has only appeared in a few Macross games to date:

    • Macross: Eternal Love Song - which largely predates Kawamori's transformation design for the VF-4 and created a very different version of the VF-4 with a VF-1-like Battroid, a large beam rifle, super pack, and funnels.
    • Macross Digital Mission VF-X - very brief appearance in opening animation in Fighter mode only.
    • Macross M3 - appeared in the opening animation in Fighter mode only.
    • Macross VOXP - gameplay only
    • Macross Ultimate Frontier - gameplay only

Actually one more game: The PS2: Super Dimension Fortress Macross game. You can unlocked it once you finished the game unknown.png
And this is another pic when I unlocked the VE-1 after the patrol missionunknown.png

After listening to the uncut versions of the songs in the movie on the OST, I have to admit this movie actually has a few pretty good songs.  Nowhere near as good as the few real bangers Walkure had in the main series, but a few actually-good songs that are just completely ruined by the movie's trash-tier sound editing.  "Glow in the Dark" probably comes the closest to the higher standard set by the TV anime.

Imo, "Mugendai Drive" is a pretty good song but I have no idea why they didnt add it in the movie. Its pretty darn suitable for pumping up combat scenes and the song "ALIVE - Inori no Uta" feel emotional to me and actually made me cry even listened to it alone

  7. So two days ago I've watched the Macross Galactic Launch Ceremony stream on Youtube and Onishi Kaya-san from Bigwest announced that following the Macross Plus Movie Editon nationwide release in the US so does the music of all Macross series on worldwide via streaming on Spotify and Youtube, etc. ITS TRUE but "almost" all, not all. SDF Macross and Macross II still regional locked, Frontier and Delta have full albums released
