The Roy does seem to be more available on the secondary market than previous releases, so your hunt should go well. There are seven of them for sale on Mandarake, which is unheard of for a DX, and there options on Amazon Japan and Yahoo! Auctions Japan as well. Nothing is at MSRP, but also not at super-high prices like the Hikaru 1J. He's also showing up regularly in the For Sale forum here, often for what the seller paid (MSRP + shipping to them) plus additional shipping to you. Several members bought multiples and want them to go to good homes.

No one is sure why Roy is more available, probably a combination of factors, but I think we all hope that it's the new normal--as long as it doesn't discourage Bandai from continuing the line or cause them to do smaller production runs. I don't mind paying a bit of a markup on MSRP post-release so I don't have to get up in the middle of the night to participate in PO Madness.

I'm beginning to notice that as well.  Hopefully the trend continues like you said.

I really do like the DX 1J. But, the Skull Leader/Roy is the closest to my heart. If you get the Roy you will love it.

I don't think you have enough Roy in there LOL

Love the display.  I need to get a shelf system like that.  Where did you get it if you don't mind me asking?

The Arcadia VF-0S is the best valk ever released!

Night and day difference with the Yamato version.

I read the review on Anymoon.com and I said, "I gotta get that".  It's one I really miss from my old Yamato collection.

Really like the color scheme on this one.  I just got my VF-31S and the armor set to go with it.  Haven't had a chance to take it out to mess around with it.  Stupid life always getting in the way LOL.

  5. I have a VF-0S Phoenix Premium Finish coming.  Can't wait to have it in hand.  I used to have the Yamato version years ago.  I wish I had been able to keep it.  Sounds like this one is more improved though.

I've got a few of the Hi Metal R toys, but not many of the DX Chogokin (too hard for me to get at a reasonable price and the scalpers nip them all up :( ). I agree with Vladykins, the monster is pretty awesome in the Hi-Metal R! I was in the same boat for that on since the Monster is not made that often as a toy and did not regret getting it at all. Other than that I've gotten a few or the Arcadia releases but they are a bit pricey now compared to the old Yamatos, but I still have a few.

BTW, welcome back to Macross Special Sauce!

Yeah those DX are expensive.  It's hard to collect them, especially with so many great designs.  I'm hoping to be able to at least get the ones that I really like.  I don't need to be a completist.

Thanks for the welcome, feels good to be back into it. :)

Even if it was surface coated, how long would that coat last? Even the best ceramic coating I've used for cars needs to be reapplied regularly.

Also, not saying it isn't going to happen but a picture of a specific valk that is yellowed isn't proof that they all will.

Finally, I usually just say "so what if it's yellow?". It's just a color...still a valk. You can just say it's another variant of the many color valks we have.

True, it's more or less that I think it can be avoided if using the right kind of plastic.  We pay a pretty good price for these so I think they should be made with quality materials.  Plus it's not like we leave them outside or mistreat them.  They should be able to withstand a little indirect sunlight from the window or being taken outside for pictures from time to time.

I don't know if a surface coating would even stop it, some of this is just natural deterioration of the plastic.

Though, I don't know of anyone who wants to cut a valk in half to find out for sure.

That would make sense since it seems like only portions of the valk itself yellows and not the entirety.  I've even seen one's that will have one leg yellow and one that's fine.  That tells me it's the quality of the plastic they're using in production.  I'd pay a little more to get plastic that doesn't yellow like that.

My YF-29 from 2012 has yellowed.

It's amazing to me that they can't put a UV protective coating on the plastic to help keep that from happening or some other solution.  These things aren't cheap, even if you can get them at retail prices they're still expensive.  They aren't for kids at that price point so they know they're aimed at the adult collector.

yeah sunlight is more than likely what did it

I also have a brand new one in the box in my closet.  I hide all my yamato from sunlight any more.  I don't have this issue with bandai.

I know it's probably me just being anal but I feel like I should probably handle mine with white gloves LOL, considering what I'm paying for them.

Cool thanks.  actually I'm going to have to re-paint my Yamato 1/60 v1 VF-1A because they use crappy plastic and both wings yellowed completely in a non-smoking home.

Did it yellow because it was in the sunlight?  I've also heard oils from the skin can cause it too.

  12. Ok, so I have a couple questions.  I haven't bought any Macross since Yamato was releasing their toy Valk's back in the early to mid 2000's.  You used to be able to buy stuff at quite a few US retailers but it seems like that isn't possible anymore.   What happened?  Is it some kind of recent legal thing?  Some of you guys like vladykins have been nice enough to point me in the direction of some international stores to get what I want which is great!  I was just wondering if something happened in recent years to keep US retailers from selling the products from Bandai's DX line or Acadia's?

Nevermind, it wasn't easy to find info. but I've found out why.   Sucks but I guess it is what it is
