  1. Soooooo good! Feels like real Macross to me. Not wandering through space and encountering random space vampires and lobsters ala Star Trek. Just a bleak universe filled with endless war and mankind fighting for survival in it. I'm still devoted to the Big West canon, got me banned on here before but I can't deny it, I strongly dislike Kawamori hijacking the greatest show ever, it could have been so much more epic.
  2. About annual CD haul for 2021. Really filling in some gaps in my collection. Gave up trying to get all the individual Honda and Saito releases when the boxes came out. Now I can sell on the many I have built up over the years. The older I get the more I like complete box sets of anything, it's just neater and easier, although the initial outlay is more it pays off if you actually want to listen to the music..nothing like kicking back after work with a beer and high end '80s system playing great '80s releases ...nothing will ever be better for me..the '80s, especially in Japan was easily the peak of human civilisation far as I'm concerned..born in '76, I never stopped wanting to be those guys with money in the '80s..
  3. Ah I just re read the title of this thread and note the position of "current"! Makes sense. Anyway I'm not criticising anyone or anything, just commenting that I am totally lost by most things in 2021 and feel like a dinosaur. I only have 20GB a month internet on my phone so streamings out for me. I feel like a time traveller from the past in this thread, and I really don't have a problem with that, it's just interesting. I'm pretty sure I don't want to live in the present with the way the world is going.
  4. It's like I arrived from an alien planet when I read about the shows you are talking about. I couldn't have less of an idea of the shows or the content. I think I'm an alien from the year 1996 (the end of anime).
  5. Okay L-Gaim's last four eps are really cool. The animation improves a notch, the battles are satisfying and meaningful and people actually die. Daba's send off at the end reminds me of the Megaroad's in FB2012, it's not on par but looks really lush and fresh. While not the greatest show and veryt far from great at all in my opinion it was a satisfying end and I'm glad I stuck with it. Those LD boxes now have new respect on my shelf.
  6. Ahh, Saito Yuki 35th boxes came out at Christmas also...too good..
  7. Yeah I've read that. I remember seeing the FSS movie in the '90s and it was cool but short and I suppose the only way to get the whole FSS saga is to read the manga? I haven't paid attention to new releases for 20 years however. I think overall I prefer Takahashi to Tomino but I have a lot of shows to watch still. This show is points down for Tomino in my mind, it would have been cool to see Nagano's full vision.
  8. Ah, L-Gaim gets worse and worse. I love the mecha, I love the character designs and the story was fun at the start but it gets more and more convoluted as characters constantly change factions. Battles don't seem to mean much in the end, hero mecha can almost never be destroyed and it's just repetitive and tiresome. A supporting character actually got hit and killed last episode (Pamela) so I hold out hope, hopefully Tomino kills em all. Especially Daba, I really don't like that guy, it should be Kyao and Amu. Have 4 eps to go to the end of the show so I guess I'll persevere.. I wish this was as good as SPT Layzner, the last great mecha show I watched.
  9. Yeah, there used t to be a lot of places to download this stuff but there are less and less each year and the people who were involved in the subtitling groups or have offline hard discs full of the files seem unwilling to share these days. This isn't the first place I've asked at, I had a lead at laserdisc database but that never happened. The member who has all the files there went dark pretty much.
  10. Minako 35th anniversary box released at Christmas and I just found out. Can finally get the 5 albums I'm missing up to '95 and real interested to check out the BD with it. All my Minako footage is LD and VHS.
  11. Heavy Metal L-Gaim. Just started the Mark 2 LD box. Funny that the Mark 2 opening starts at the end of the Mark 1 box tho.. It definitely doesn't feel like a Tomino show, I guess it "feels" like whatever a Nagano show feels like. The death toll is way too low for Tomino. Maybe that will change? The animation standard is getting better and more consistent as the story continues. Wish I could get subs to OVA III which is included on the last disc of the Mark 1 box which I'll watch after I complete the series. Apparently OVA I and II are just recaps anyway but wouldn't mind having the short bonus animation in those. Oh and Amu is awesome. I like Kyao too, always losing and getting paid out but he stays positive. Aside from that finished watching Bubblegum Crisis box, had never seen the second half of the series. I think it kind of peters out into mundane low key stories compared to the first 4 episodes. I'm sure that's not how it was originally planned, I think I read that somewhere too. Anyway the best thing about the BGC red box is that it has Hurricane Live and Holiday in Bali on a separate disc. Saving those for when I can crack a few beers again (quitting drinking for the next 3 months, just to prove I can, gone 2 weeks so far)
  12. I am finding it really hard to find subtitle files for anime anymore. A lot of files and sites from the day seem to have disappeared forever. However for a while there in 2020 I could find .srts and .ass around and could convert to .ssa from those. One of the best resources was Wiki2. Now those sub download links are "not found". Knowing there are old school fans here that might have been/are into Sub Station Alpha, genlocks and LDs I thought I'd ask if anyone has any ideas/links or is willing to trade files with me. I have built up a small collection of .ssa ready stuff I can share from Google drive (or if there's a preferred method here please let me know). My current list of .ssa ready stuff I have and can share is: Angel's Egg Bubblegum Crisis Dirty Pair TV (partial and missing most episodes) Future War 198X Gunbuster All Ghibli pre 2000 All UC Gundam pre 2000 Heavy Metal L-Gaim TV Orguss TV Urusei Yatsura TV Video Girl Ai Weathering Continent At the moment I'm most after subs for L-Gaim OVA III and the series Zambot 3.
