Why isn’t the low vis available?
Chris
On BBTS? was wonder the same thing myself.

Re - SPP's I think that with the release of the latest wave prices have somewhat stabilized in the mid 8K to 9K yen for a set, at least on YJA where I've seen quite a few set go for those prices over the last 3-4 weeks or so. Figure with domestic shipping 800-1000 yen and then your freight forward fees and int'l shipping your looking at spending about 13-14K yen for a set.

That low-vis is going on the wish list.

I did ship 1/48 Milia, 1/48 super strike pack, 1/60 VF-1 with super strike pack and a 1/60 tomahawk from FJ using EMS awhile back. Cost me 11200 yen.
Checked on a shipment from earlier in the year for two 1/48 yammies and EMS shipping was 7,300 yen. I guess the mid-30's USD per item holds up for both EMS and DHL.

I haven't ordered much of anything in singles from JP. What does a "medium" size box EMS cost? I can't imagine that it can be a whole lot less than $37????
Not sure what you would consider a medium sized box to be but the box I received today from Mandy was 13-1/2 x 9 1/2 x 7 3/4 and under 1kg - cost 2,900 yen to ship. Hope this helps.

Have two packages inbound via EMS. Order 1 shipped on 4/10 (NGO) with last scan the following day at the airport. Order 2 shipped on 4/9 (TYO) and last scan was on same day when received by JPost. I'm thinking they are likely still in Japan.
Quick update -
Package (#2) from Tokyo (TYO) that shipped on 4/9 (received by post office) was forwarded for international dispatch on 5/1 and and received by New York ISC on 5/2. Looks like it will be delivered today 5/4. It appears it remained with the local/receiving post office for about 3 weeks before being forward for shipment overseas - overall it took 3-1/2 weeks.
Still no movement on the other package sitting at the airport in NGO.

Pretty sure they aren't, I've been inside one of their stores during golden week.
That has been my experience as well - as least in Nakano (Broadway)

I would love to know what the specific issues are with Japan Post so we could hypothesize when things might start to improve a little bit. Obviously SAL went away because they couldn't use excess space in flights for cargo... since commercial flights vanished. I don't know how EMS shipments worked. Does Japan Post own a bunch of planes that they send back and forth like FedEx and DHL? If so, did EMS get waylay'ed because of domestic issues (far fewer employees picking up/sorting/delivering because of stay at home orders)? Is it because the staff at the Japanese airports have been cut way back? Is it because the staff at the destination airports has been cut way back? Is it because the count of parcels people want shipped has been reduced so much that the planes aren't filling up? I heard the USPS has been struggling with far less demand for their services since the outbreak.
I read an article a week or so ago on NHK's website. Basically its coming down to reduced bandwitdth due to less air traffic. JP Post just like USPS doesn't own there own fleet of aircraft they just use / contract with commercial passenger and freight carriers. If memory serves at one time they did partner up with ANA but that was strictly for cargo between Japan and S. Korea.

Without getting into whichever proxy you use & different fee structures, whether Buyee, From Japan, Zenmarket etc, there are normally 3 things I watch out for on Yahoo Japan Auctions itself:
1. Whether if seller is an individual or corporation. For corporations, there is a 10% local consumption tax on top of the bid price.
2. Whether if the seller details out the local shipping costs. Most reputable ones do, so do note where the proxy warehouse is located to know how much is the local shipping. At same time, a fair number of sellers do not list out the local shipping costs; perhaps just mentioning the local courier service name. This is where it can get slightly tricky because there are cases of sellers who charge an obviously exorbitant shipping fee independent of the actual shipping fee, perhaps wanting to make up for a low auction closing price, and there is nothing the proxy can do about it. In these auctions where shipping fee structure are not thoroughly specified, then I would pay more attention to the next item:
3. The sellers' rating. I read somewhere before in these forums that sellers' ratings work a bit differently in YJA, in that the seller can actually delete negative comments by buyers, which is quite a big deal. But it appears that most sellers in Japan have better sense of ingrained integrity than the rest of the world, ie eBay, so at end of day the ratings in YJA are more trustable compared to eBay.
These above guidelines have served me quite well on the occasional items bought off YJA over the past 2-3 years..
Good advice there. Personally unless the shipping charge is indicated either in the listing or description itself its a deal breaker for me and I wont bid. I know of at least one reputable vendor/chain that just puts the info in the description - "Dometisic shipping flat rate: 810 yen" or something to that effect.

As been mentioned those small fees do add up - death by paper cuts. On the bright side FJ does offer a discount on EMS/FedEx once your total purchase has reach a certain amount. I think its 3% once you've purchased 40k in goods, 5% once you've done 100k (which is not hard to do in this hobby). It's not much but it should offset some of the fees. Buyee (aka Tenso) will charge a package consolidation fee (I think its 1000 yen) where FJ doesn't. For domestic delivery on something like one Yamato 1/48 I've seen costs around 1.5k

Just did a Mandy order for two sets of Yamato 1/48 SSP's and a DX YF-30. So not a small box. Shipping was $111.88 DHL. All things considering not horrible. That's a BIG box and comes out to $37/ unit to ship. I have to think that it costs at least $37 to ship a single set of SSP's EMS.
So, the tick is getting a a few items if you're going to make an order.
I had two yammie's 1/48 shipped in a single box in February via EMS and the cost was 7.3k. So it was about $34 per unit - close to what you're estimating.

Another question to ask here.
Who has received or yet to receive their order by using EMS? I don't mind the three week (or longer) wait for shipping from Amiami via EMS on a pre-owned item (not paid yet as it's due on the 30th).
Have two packages inbound via EMS. Order 1 shipped on 4/10 (NGO) with last scan the following day at the airport. Order 2 shipped on 4/9 (TYO) and last scan was on same day when received by JPost. I'm thinking they are likely still in Japan.
Item of interest spotted on MANDARAKE!
